Tao Tao 110 wont start-need some help

Bought last year. Won't start, won't crank. The headlight won't turn on either. I replaced the ignition switch and the starting switch on the handlebar. Good, charged battery. Will start up if I jump the starting solenoid. I tried using a safety pin to bypass the brake switch and see if it would work. No dice. Where should I go next on this? I think it had a remote starter that has since disappeared, was there some lockout or something on that I am not aware of? Thanks, getting desperate because the poor kid wants to ride!

BTW, fuse is good. Could it be a bad solenoid?

If you have 12v when you press the starter switch on the small wires of the solenoid, and can jump the terminals of the big wore, its a bad solenoid. If you dont have power (with the starter button pressed) on the small wires, something is interry
Upting the signal, i.e. remote box, or a safety switch...

Can the remote start have any kind of lockout or something I am not aware of?

If it had an alarm/remote start system, yes... they had an ignition cutout on those units.

Thanks for your responses. Is there a wiring diagram or something I can try to figure this out? Or an easy way to bypass it? Like I said no lights or anything but jumping the solenoid works

It sounds like you need a new solenoid. Get a meter and check for voltage out to the starter when pushing the starter button. Obviously there is voltage to it so if there is no voltage out to the starter, the solenoid is bad. They 'click' when working. They are super cheap to replace.

Let us know how you make out with new part. Hopefully it will be the cure. I'm in the Grand Rapids area and will be glad to help if I can....free of charge.

Edit: I'm not sure how your ATV is set up but my grandson's Tao Tao 125cc's headlight only comes on when it's running.

New one is on...And nothing. Can still jump across the selenoid to start it. Brake light doesnt come on (which I thought would without power but I may be wrong). No crank hitting the buttom. Replaced ignition switch, start switch and solenoid.

Only other thing I can think is the brake switch?

I had a similar issue with the 125cc. I was using the remote to start the ATV when we first got it because I was able to shut it down when the grandson ran into trouble. When he turned 8 I thought it was time to teach him to start it by himself. I found that it wouldn't using the starter button. I also found that the brake light wouldn't work either. It should even without running. I too thought it was the switch and started looking there when I noticed that the brake wires looked pinched. They were and after repairing them, everything worked fine.

brake mirco switch

the brake mirco switch on the handle brake lever... has to be pressed for the brake light to come on... this allows power to the starting system... the power to the solenoic then the ground is activated when you press the start button... you can just jump these wires on the switch to by pass it... you need power at the solenoid wire and then ground to engage it.... this is the 2 wires at the solenoid... this is the MAJOR PROBLEM in this case,.,,, nothing else... if you can jump the solenoid to make it start... then there is no power from the key to the start stop switch system... or the mirco switch is not working properly.... check the wires to see if they asre making the connection.... all you need is a test light.... check for a ground power ... or a positive power... one or the other...

brake switch

on the atvs with a foot brake...... there is a brake switch hooked up to the foot brake system... either in the master cylinder ... on the new ones... or to the pedal system.... IF YOU have a hand brake system on the handle bars... there is a mirco switch..... either way you can by pass it by hooking in a jumper .. or hooking up the 2 wires together ( not rocket science stuff ) and try it..... it is there as a SAFETY SYSTEM.....
