GPS to the rescue!

Hey guys! My KLR snapped it's speedo cable on my way to work yesterday morning... I have a new one on order but it will take about a week to get here. I have a pretty good idea of how fast I'm going on the highway in 5th gear by the engine RPM's, but no clue when I'm in the slower zones so I'm going to use my car gps to do my speedo duties for a week till my new cable comes in . I knew that 12volt adapter would come in handy! Lol! With our short (micro) season here there's no way I'm going to stop riding the bike for a week unless I absolutely have to! I'll be sure to lube the cable up well so it hopefully lasts a little longer than this one did.

Glad you got a temporary solution. Don't miss any good riding days!. Nice to see it's not only Q's that break cables! :P

I spotted a handlebar mount on eBay that would accept my gigantic and antiquated GPS; it's tempting.

Lol, that might be what I bought! I got mine a while ago, it's just a small plastic circular clamp with a setscrew type tightening system on it. It has the slots in it to accept my Magellan GPS. I think the GPS is about 4 years old now so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new units, but it still works well . I was kind of surprised the cable cratered on me as my KLR only has 14,000 km's on it so far... Figures though, it broke right where it has a slight bend in it. Hoping the lube will make this one last longer. Also hoping I don't have to pull the whole headlight/fairing assembly off to replace it but I'm guessing I will .

The car GPS is a good solution, Stew! Summer is fleeting; get out and ride!
