SpeeCo Roughrider Project

Normally I post in the dual sport section but aside from helping a friend get their hawk up to speed I haven't been wrenching on mine much aside from normal maintenance, I'm satisfied... Sooo time for a new project!

I present the SpeeCo Roughrider. I traded a beat up hawk (not mine, friend rage quit on theirs) for it and a watermelon. It looks like SpeeCo (a.k.a. Special Products Company) is normally a farm equipment company who jumped in on the trike craze in the 80's. The neat thing is, it uses an old briggs and strat "heavy duty, cast iron" 8hp engine so between the yard equipment store/engine repair shop and Farm and Fleet, I can source almost everything I need to fix the thing. It's stupid fun.

The primary design objective of the trike is to help me out on trail work days. I am a member of the local motorcycle/dirt bike club and we host a lot of dual sport rides/hare scrambles/whatever. This thing will haul me, gas, a chainsaw, loppers, water, and arrows along the intended trails. I'm putting it to the test next weekend and am pretty excited.

So here are the pics, yes that is a tractor seat, I hope you all enjoy:

So cool!
I'm in love with your buggy. I want one in the worst way.

Thanks! The buggy has been my "I should really work on that at some point" project for the past 7 years now. I "fixed" it when I was in high school, which is what really got me into wrenching. Now that I have had more servicing experience I am realizing I should really go back over the entire dune buggy and do it properly... Just gotta get it unburied from the motorcycle parts and yard tools that don't have a good home...
