Thanks guys! As costly as this little unit is, it will make my Rhino far more useable dragging a full cart up the hill. Right now, I have to hit it like a hill climber trying to make it up Widow Maker.

It being aluminum would be a deal breaker for me. With the number of miles I put on my machine, in dust and dirt, it wouldn't last a season. I can see it being a useful upgrade while it lasts, which could be quite a while depending on how the ATV is used.

BTW I have tried a few aluminum sprockets on various bikes and none have lasted more than a few thousand miles.

You cut a length of pipe to fit between the brake disc and the tire hub. It keeps the Hub from warping the washer and making a mess of things. I had a piece of conduit the right diameter laying around so I made use of it when I changed the sprocket.

Not to worried about the aluminum sprocket .. my Rhino is a low mileage ride. Only a handful of miles per trip.... the need for torque was more important.

The front sprocket WGS offers is all steel...for each tooth you lose on the front is equal to a 3 or 4 in the rear from what they say.

I opted to do both.

I can see your concern, especially with the miles you ride. Like Darth, my Rhino is ridden briefly and is never leaving the property. I bet I can work the hill all day and not put on more than a mile or two, tops.....but I sure need to drag that full cart uphill.

You put a smaller sprocket on the front? I didn't know that was possible! How many teeth is the stocker and what did you end up buying and replacing it with? That's an awful tight turn around that sprocket, as it is.

2lz, since you use your rhino as a tractor it seems. what kind of lawn tractor/tractor do you have. i assuming your property is on the diagonal living in the mountains so you probably beat that puppy pretty good eh?

also, how many inches of snow have you seen at your place . (donner, donner...party of....)

Of the 87 members of the party, 48 survived to reach California, many of them having eaten the dead for survival.

It's an 11tooth... the stock sprocket was 12T.

Yeah its a tighter turn now.. had to shave the holder clip down with a grinder for the chain to clear. Can't go any less then 11 teeth.

LOL! Donner, party of.... My buddy has used that line for years in restaurants.

The property does fall off on the back half and can get pretty steep in spots. That's also the hill we mostly work because much of it still needs to be cleared from decades (probably 100 years) of neglect.

This is why I bought the Rhino. My poor lawn tractor has been used for WAY more than it's designed for and I wanted to give the little tractor some help. It is a nice unit though. A Husqvarna with the posi rear end, driven by a 24 HP Kawasaki V-twin with a welded mower deck for the boulders that always erupt. It sucks to kick a softball-sized rock out but the deck can take it.

We don't get a lot of snow at only 3000'. Maybe a couple storms a year and it melts in a day or so.

nice tractor with the best motor kaw. we all use and abuse them making new territory.

you have such a nice place. i worry about fires and i see you have a defensible perimeter (wise) sorry for jumping around on subject but i always think about the idea of having water sprinklers for roof tops in case of the unthinkable. (of course its hard to spray water in a 40mph firestorm, been there) also all kinds of products out now also such as http://www.coldfire.biz/ . sorry dont mean to freak you out, i am just always seeing fires as a volunteer. my sister was burned out in the bastrop complex fire of labor day . worst texas fire, in pine forest country east of austin.

Three separate fires started on September 4, 2011, as a result of strong winds caused by nearby Tropical Storm Lee, and merged into one large blaze that burned east of the city of Bastrop. Two people were killed by the fire, which destroyed 1,673 homes and inflicted an estimated $325 million of insured property damage.

Got the new NGK plug, what's the gap need to be set at?

And the Mikuni carb adjustment, is the fuel mixture on the bottom by the bowl and idle adjustment on the side of the carb?

Thanks!

Off the top of my head, I think the plug gap is 28-32.
The idle mixture screw is the one that points upward next to the float bowl.
The idle speed screw is the one in the side/bottom of the slide bore that the slide sits on. It takes a flat blade screwdriver.

Make sure you check and see what slot the needle clip is in before you install it. I go either the middle (3RD) slot or the 4th slot down.

It occurred to me that the 78 tooth overlay sprocket from the pre 1968 Trail 90 bolts directly over a 40 tooth 428 sprocket. My ATA250D happens to run a 40 tooth 428 sprocket and sure enough it fits perfectly. Drops current gearing from 1/3.33 to 1/6.5. Two minor problems though, not much ground clearance, but the larger 10" wheels on the Rhino would help. Also there is no hub to hold the overlay sprocket when not in use, though it can be removed by taking off the wheel.
