Hawk - moving forward even when clutch pulled in

My brand new hawk pulls forward even though I've got the clutch pulled in. Only does this (I think?) in first gear. Any advice?

Not a Hawk but same procedure. You want to go with a little less free play on the Hawk.

First thing I would do is to make sure the cable is not binding anywhere. I hope you lubricated the cable (s, both of them) when you were assembling the bike. I've always used ATF for this, but now-a-days you can buy spray cans of chain lube. Look for the type that has wax in it. Next thing I would do is to take the tank off and make sure there are no tight bends in the cable. Especially at the cable support do-dad on the frame. I use zip-ties worked into no smaller than a one-inch circle, so that the cable can have sweet curves, and no binding. Next, adjust the clutch lever that is on the right side of the engine, right behind the cylinder. Set the lever so that it has very little play before it touches the clutch mechanism. It is easier to feel this if the clutch cable is disconnected from the lever on top of the crankcase. When you think you have this right, hook up the clutch cable again. Now go up to the clutch lever on the handle bar. There is another adjuster there. Set that adjustment so that you have an eighth of an inch of play, measured at the very end of the lever. Ride the bike enough to get it warmed up. Now check that you still have clearance at the lever on top of the right side crankcase cover (clutch cover). Just a little bit of clearance under all conditions is what you want here. If this doesn't fix the problem, let us know....ARH

i had to recently replace my clutch cable, i had no more adjustment left in it, i couldnt find any obvious problem with the cable, i am assuming it had just stretched out. venhill makes an easy and fairly inexpensive cable kit heres the link if you have to take this route also. its a very simple kit but is does require soldering.

I found that my cable bound when the bars were turned or a full fork extension. I took the clutch cable loose from the lever and re-routed it to keep it from binding.
