2018 klx250

https://www.kawasaki.com/products/2018-KLX250#

With f.i. and better suspension (fully adjustable) then the Honda crf250. Will be fun to read about the head to head comparisons

Theres been talk that the KLR650 is going to get injecton..
not seen anything yet...

The KLX250 is a strong motor as it started life as the klX300 sleeved down to 250..
the Honda CRF250l is quite budget under all the pretty plastic... there new CRF250 rally
is just a heavyer version of the same bike with more exspenive brakeable bits...

WR250R is still the pick of the jap 250cc trailies but also by far the most exspensive...

Water cooled? No way, for me. Too much weight up high, and un-necessary compliction...ARH

I’m sure hope the talk you heard turns out to be correct. I’ve owned three KLR650’s over the years and would really like a fuel injected KLR650. Wouldn’t have to fool with the carburetor so often and would probably accelerate and ride a lot smoother. I hope 2018 is the year!

wow ARH you are truly ole skool. my CR80 back in the 80s was watercooled. most of it was aluminium so the weight was small. It kept my high spinning 2 smokes engine heat under control.

I say dont add it unless you need it, but in order to make bigger power isn't it needed?

Over $2500 cheaper than a WR250. I don.t know how much better the WR250 is.

The KLX250 has most lightly got injecton to meet EURO4..
the KLR will also need it if Kawasaki wants to keep selling
them in Europe...
EURO4 is why Yamaha have stoped useing the 660 motor...

No, it is not needed for more power. Possibly for the ultimite 16,000 rpm power with a power band about equal to a humming bird's wingspan. But this is an enduro/dual-sport motorcycle we are talking about. What is needed is better heat rejection. At least the engine used in so many of these China bikes need better cooling. Remember it was designed for third world cheap motorized transportation, not for high performance. And it is really nothing more than a 125cc engine streched every which way to get 229cc out of it. Using as much as possible the original casting dies. Air-cooled engine are not totally air cooled, and never were. They are about 50% oil cooled. This engine oil capacity is the same as when it was a 125, but now makes almost double the torque and more than double the hosepower. A small oil cooler, run inline from the strainer housing to the rocker gear in the head will reduce heat, and reduce heat where it does the most good. The barrel finning is inadequete for dealing with a lot more power, but the oil cooling helps this as well. So does using fully synthetic oil - it stands heat better. Synthetic oil also is less affected by the slicing and dicing of the oil going on in the primary drive and the transmission. The head finning and its layout is inadequete also, but the oil cooler works on that problem. If there was a big bore cylinder kit with more finning on the barrel, we'd be in hog heaven, but I've never seen one. So, to summarize, a higher performance Hawk type engine would require new cylinder and head castings with more and better laid out finning, and the next step would be dry sump lubrication, which, even with 2 1/4 quarts of lube oil, cools the oil much better....ARH

KLX is a mean little bike. My friend rides one and that thing has plenty of power. Obviously you pay a premium for that, though...
