In the 1960s my best friend's mom bought him a Bonanza mini bike with a Hodaka 100cc motorcycle engine. I wanted one bad but didn't have the money so I ordered an $18.95 "arc welder" from the back pages of Popular Mechanics Magazine and build my own. Made the frame out of electrical conduit brazed together with the carbon arc torch. Used a Vespa 160cc engine that was in the garage (dad owned a Vespa dealership). The thing would do over 70 mph and had a 4 speed transmission. It's a wonder I survived.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I couldn't resist. I have a CT200U I bought in 2016 for my daughters Christmas present. She doesn't ride it much because she doesn't like how it goes zero to about 25mph like RIGHT NOW, lol. I have ridden the thing all over the woods, tote 50lb sacks of deer corn on it all the time. The frame is still in good shape, no cracks so far hauling my 200lb butt around. The motor has been FANTASTIC! the valve train needs adjusted as soon as you get it and an oil change, but other than that its been very reliable. The centrifugal clutch does get warm if you're engaging and disengaging it all the time. Keep the chain lubed and the jack shaft greased and its good to go. Whoever builds these are doing a great job. I would buy another in a minute and not think twice about it. I think SWMBO paid 399 for this one. I rode the thing this afternoon with my little boy (yeah we ride it 2 up, LOL). Its great fun, the thing will go anywhere. My plan is to modify the racks to be a bit bigger.

Here’s my Coleman CT200U project. I actually worked on it a little yesterday. Still have a lot to do to finish it up. This bike will be used to get me up to my hunting grounds. The frame has been stretched 12” for stability and will be braced to carry heavier loads. It will have a trailer hitch and a utility trailer. The bike has A 212cc Predator Hemi engine with all the ‘go fast’ parts in it and a CVT. I’m working on a front suspension for it and trying to finish the frame. The CT200U will get a tractor seat to cushion the ride a little. I have also added a front brake with lever and EBC brake shoes, as I feel these bikes do not come enough brake.

I've done this trail several times and it can be pretty rugged at times. They definitely went during the winter as the water flowing doesn't happen in the summer. That was fun to watch! My Hawk wants to go now.

Yes but the OE clutch doesn't fit. The CT engine is a 5/8 shaft. The Predator engine is a 3/4 shaft. Most people switch over to the Torq-A-Verter for better speed and torque. They can be tuned to put the power where you want it. Also, if I was doing a P212 conversion, I would go for the Hemi head one. It's told that they work better for power mods.
