No, the load does not impact the release. The design of the catch is perfect. It has never let go on its own and it always drops easily. For plowing I don't use any ballast or need any more traction that the 4 wheel drive offers. This is a really strong machine and with the new front mount design Warn has for the plow it can be installed or removed in 2 minutes. This thing is great.
