Got a 2 smoker

Picked up a 2 smoker for cheap - 98 CR125. Too cold to really ride it but it seems to run fine. I'll either keep it around for a bud bike, sell it when it gets nice out, or I've thought about pulling the engine and pipe and putting in a mild 4 stroke. Anyone here have a clue if a chinese 200 could be wedged in there? I realize this is a vague question but I thought I'd see if anyone here has done anything like this?
It would make for a heck of a bike for a beginner!

I don't know if it'll work, but I've always liked the idea of putting chinese motors into honda frames. Best (cheapest) part of both worlds.

Its been many many years since my 2stroke bikes, but the little 100's and 125's would run circles around my 250 HiBird.

I'd run it as it is.

The 2 stroke engines are a bit smaller than a 4 stroker and would make it difficult to swap in a 4 stroker.

I have thought about a ninja 250 engine in a xl250r frame though I'd like to put it in a china bike frame but I think it would tear it up.

Ya the 125 2t will blow away any 200-300 4t, but I just thought about it for a nice, plush, easy riding bike for a bud or my wife.

I had a lifan 200, I now have a KLX 300 and DRZ 450. I haven't even got my 125 out of 2nd but I know the 200 or 300 wouldn't keep up with it in a drag!!
Now if you're talking about riding one all day on gravel roads, then I'd take the 300 over the 125.

If you do make the swap, I might be interested in the 2-stroke you take out . . .

Keep the 2 Stroke LOTS more power than you'd ever see from a Chinese 200, 300 what ever.

Yup, a 2-stroke with the same displacement has twice the power of a four stroke, in fact a lot of the meets will classify them as equal, i.e., a 250 two-stroke against a 500 four-stroke.

I had a 250 Polaris that wouldn't take a backseat to anything, and it was light and nimble -- could take it places a mountain goat wouldn't tiptoe . . .

True. I know about the difference in power and such. Took me awhile to be convinced of a 4 stroke MX bike. Only reason I would want to switch out motors is to have a nice, light bike that could tractor thru the trails instead of fly.

Finally got the CR out for a ride this weekend. I was having so much fun on the light bike I let the other guy ride my DRZ most of the time. The 2 stroke hit is a blast.

the idea of taking out a good running 2 stroke motor just blows my mind... 2 strokes are easy to work on, cheap to maintain, and a blast to ride.

Long live the 2 strokes!!!! nothing like the sound or the smell when you get a full line of them ready for the gate to drop. Now they are pretty much gone, and KTM's looking at mass producing zero-emission electric bikes -- won't be long and the kids will be walking around halls going wooosh wooosh instead of brrraaaaapppp braaaappppp.

Nice looking bike - keep it as it is and enjoy it.

nice bike, i've been thinnking of selliln all three of my bikes to get a used two stroke, 125's usually put out upwards of 40 hp stock, not too shabby!

the more i ride, the more i like to wring out the motor anyways, and two strokes are perfect for that
