so how exactly did you figure out what aftermarket parts would fit your bike?

I've done a lot of research, Joe. Since my Zong employs a faithful copy of the Yamaha XT200/TW200 engine, I know I can frequently employ Yamaha parts, or aftermarket parts which fit those Yamaha motorcycles. Of course, some aftermarket parts will fit many motorcycles, so less research is required in those cases.

If you wish to learn more about my modifications to my Zongshen 200GY-2, you might enjoy reading the threads contained in the Zong Sticky, located at the top of the Dual Sport Forum.

if your china bike can reach 40,000 then people need to change their views on these excellent bikes

My Zong has exceeded 42,000 miles (65,000 kilometers) on the odometer. Indeed, these Chinese motorcycles are much better than many people believe.

Indeed better than your average XR250L. Mine did not go as many miles as your Zong, Brother Spud.

I took a ride Wednesday, and snapped a current photograph of my Zong.

This is the way my Zong looks in its current configuration. My bike is still running very well with about 42,500 miles on the odometer.

As you say, Spud, that's the Zong they should have built. As far as I can tell, you have optimized every aspect of your terrific little bike.

I know it is not a close up photo, but your bike looks amazingly clean for it's age, as well. You clearly take good care of it. You develop quite a relationship with a machine after that many miles. I only put 38k on my SV so far in the last 9 years, but she is like a family member, and the memories are priceless.

Thank you, Weld.

I believe Zongshen would have greater success selling my modified bike in the U.S.A. than the original version. However, Mister Zongshen has not returned my telephone calls.

Thank you, DM. My Zong has never seen soap. :P However, I do my best to hose off the Zong with water every time it gets muddy. Also, the stainless steel, exhaust header is much more resistant to rust, and helps to keep my Zong looking good after 42,000 miles.

Indeed, I have become very attached to my Zong. I don't think I could ever sell it.

Here is a recent photograph of my Zong which was taken in April 2013. Among other modifications, my Zong now sports Tusk, D-Flex hanguards and Ken Sean folding mirrors.
