I'm paying attention to all this. I need to tune the CVT on my daughter UTV after putting on the bigger tires. It lost a little of the low end grunt.

Took the Trike out for a spin yesterday and other than it being a chilly 62° it wasn't a bad ride. But then I decided to take a dirt road home, and wouldn't you know it I got behind a UPS van. So for the next 5 miles I was riding in a dust storm. I even stopped to let it settle but soon caught up with the van again. Then I pulled a tendon in my knee trying to push the bike backwards into it's parking spot. 😧😥

More CVT tuning

Well after doing some more research and yesterday's test ride I think I'm closer to understanding what I need to get the absolute most out of the transmission. A knowledgeable friend in one of my GY6 performance groups asked me what rpm the engine was turning at top speed, and for some reason I really hadn't paid attention to that detail. So I discovered yesterday that it was only 6250, which isn't shabby for a stock 150cc motor, but it could be better, especially after I install the new A9 cam.

Now remember I was reaching full CVT engagement at 45mph and then it was just creeping up to 53mph. My original thought was just to go 1gram lighter on the sliders to keep it in the powerband longer. But now it seems that would just be a bandaid that would provide slightly better acceleration but wouldn't take full advantage of the engine's rpm range.

So the next step is replacing the 1000rpm (black) contra spring with a 1500rpm (yellow) spring. This will be much more effective at keeping the motor in the powerband all the way to top speed, and might even increase it because of allowing higher engine rpm.

And I've already purchased 13gram sliders incase the yellow contra spring is keeping the 12gram sliders from reaching the top of the variator pulley. I'm wanting the bike to run consistently at 60mph and still have impressive acceleration and by golly I'm close. Once the engine is fully modded the only thing I will have to do is install the 8% final drive gear, which has to be pressed on. Then speeds of 80mph are within reach.

They should consider offering reverse with these. After all, they are marketed to elderly or people who can't ride two-wheelers due to issues related to their legs, or both. You are not elderly, but we do know you ended up purchasing one of these due to the accident that injured your leg.

You will need a wheelie bar

Nice video Culcune, and that's probably a 232cc that's completely modded. They sell a turbo too, but I didn't hear it spooling up and he would have the launch speed set higher to take advantage of it. But I guarantee you most of his tuning is in the CVT.

I think most folks probably roll their eyes when I say the 150cc stock Trike will accelerate faster than Jay's slightly modded 229cc Hawk (he has the 4° timing key and everything else but the PnP and decking). And they probably don't believe it can chirp the tires on pavement. But that's all CVT performance kit and tuning. I s#it you not when I say it feels like a sportscar now, I've had V8 cars that didn't accelerate this fast. Even at half throttle I can whoop Jay for a 16th of a mile.

Now I'm not (I keep telling myself) gonna go all stupid with this build. Just a 171cc bbk kit (anything larger requires machining the cases and a high volume oil pump). And ofcourse the A9 cam, 26mm carb, UNI pod filter and Yoshi exhaust. And possibly the 4 valve ported head and thinner gasket.

The scooter guys take these things serious and that's why the sky's the limit when it comes to the GY6 aftermarket. Stroker cranks, performace heads and cams, tuned intakes and fuel pumps, big block kits, tunable EFI and CDI systems, Audi turbo chargers and ofcourse oil coolers, high output ignition coils and stators, and the list goes on. Nevermind VERY expensive custom rims and white wall tires offered in any width. You could easily spend 10k on a build and sell it for 15k. It's ludicrous to say the least, but I just want a fast Trike, and maybe some white wall tires..

I took the Trike out yesterday because the temps climbed to 67°. It hadn't been started in 2 months and had been through some very cold temps, but the battery still had a good charge on it. I had to crank it quite a bit to get fuel back to the carb, but then it fired right up and idled like a champ.

Apparently it likes cool weather too (or it's just getting broke in). It was pulling harder yesterday than it ever has before, and I was able to get an additional 4mph on the top speed (63mph). Even got a nice little half donut doing a U turn on pavement.

But after an hour it started sprinkling so I beat cheeks for home. By the time I got the cover back on the bike it was full on raining. I tried to get Jay to tag along but due to his recent back surgery he didn't feel up to it.

Glad to see you are coming out of hibernation. That thing seems like it keeps getting faster as it breaks in. I will be eventually getting my 150cc TGB back on the road soon enough, and might even try out working for Doordash on the side.

Glad to see somebody is getting some riding time, not a good day for the past two months for my winter. That is some amazing speed outa that Trike! I have come to realize the small displacement motors are every bit of fun if not more than the larger displacement.

Bought some parts from this scooter parts place, they have good prices and have been good to me.

I swear it's all in the CVT, when I got this thing I was so disappointed (just like my first few rides on the Hawk). The pulleys would top out at 35mph and then it was an excruciatingly long climb to 53mph (even longer to hit 59). Now it pulls real hard to 45mph and doesn't take much to hit the cruising speed of 52mph (where it still feels strong on hills and curves), but it still takes a while and flat ground to get over 60mph.

My goal is to get it to pull hard all the way to 50mph, and then my cruising speed will be around 55 which is enough for me. Because of the weather I haven't tried the yellow contra spring yet, but I think I'm gonna try 11gram sliders first. Anything more will require engine mods.

Took the Trike out for a few hours yesterday because it was sunny and 71° out. The recent performance gain is definitely because the engine is breaking in. I hadn't been paying attention to the milage and thought it was a lot higher but it's now at 418 miles. Cold it starts with just a quick press of a button, struggles for a few seconds and then idles wonderfully. The acceleration is amazing, and it's definitely pulling harder, accelerating on hills etc.

With the throttle slightly open it likes to toodle along at 40mph but is ready to quickly get you moving with just a little more throttle. I guess that's what I noticed most yesterday, I've got alot more midrange power and it doesn't take as much throttle to get there. The exhaust has also gotten noticeably louder which I don't care for, but all the aftermarket options are even louder and run about $250 - $300.

The rear differential is breaking in as well, it's easier to turn now and pulls less going down the road. The manufacturer fills it with a heavy grease that's so thick it feels and acts like a solid axe the first few hundred miles. Today I ordered a Niche gold X-ring 428 chain for it, the cheap stock chain is already shot and starting to wear the sprockets.

The best thing about yesterday's ride was all the cinders on the secondary paved roads. I know they can be a little scary on 2 wheels but with wide 50s on the back it turns it into a drift Trike, I was sideways and fish tailing several times and did a couple donuts at some intersections. Thank goodness it's got a low center of gravity lol.

Next on the list is rider comfort, I've got to put some highway pegs on it and add some foam to the seat. My backside is definitely a little sore today.

Trike looks good Frank. Yeah the weathers been nice hear too. I've been taking the Ghost to work all week. That will change by Sunday as the rain will be coming back and hang around for the week.

Rode the bike Monday for about an hour after working on the seat. I like sitting higher but it needs softer foam and the gel holds heat from the sun, so I'm gonna redo it again.

It was 80° and my performance went back down so that tells me I need a bigger main jet.

Oh and I got the clock set lol.
