Also, I forgot to link the items.

Carburetor on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can get this same carb on Aliexpress for about 5 bucks cheaper. I bought it from Amazon because I had the previously mentioned gift card balance to work with. The upside to Amazon was, that it qualifies under prime, so 2 day shipping for free. The only real difference is, the one on Amazon has different jet sizes in it.
That said - Aliexpress link https://www.aliexpress.com/item/KOSO...00023.6.zpsJNS

Well... The hawk is out of commission for now.

Let my friend ride it and something happened with the rear end and caused it to kick out. Bike got lowsided. Thankfully it was only at about 5-10mph, but it slid under a truck. Front wheel alignment is off but nothing appears bent. Gotta take it apart and inspect everything. Left side plastic cover over the battery is destroyed. Handlebar is bent, and left side adjuster got tweaked a bit too. The brake lever is also bent from where it hit the underside of the truck on the frame. The IMS shifter did it's job though as far as I can tell.

Took the rear wheel off, and guess what I found. Rear sprocket is loose again. Those factory sprocket studs are worthless with the amount of play they have.

Couple of pictures. Brake lever is worse than it looks in the picture.

what a bugger...
that plastic looks very brittle the way it broke...

it will polish out....

counter sink the sprocket holes & put quad wheel nuts on it...

It probably is a little brittle, but that panel and the handlebar took the biggest impact when the bike landed, and that rear section isn't supported very well, so it has a lot more room to flex. The front fender took a hit too and it only has a few scratches to show for it.

Hey MegaDan,

So what is your plan for the rear sprocket? The fact that you checked the rear sprocket and still had problems is worrisome.

Keep us posted!

What would be a quick test / exam to see if the sprocket is secure / loose? Light tap with the toe of the shoe - see if any movement?
(Sorry to see that Mega... I know how excited you were with the Hawk. With your experience, I am rethinking letting my neighbor test ride my Magician 250.)

The rear sprocket play now is minimal. The only reason it moves is because of those cush drive sprocket studs not being the proper size and moving in their respective holes. If they were a light press fit and not a hotdog in a hallway the sprocket wouldn't move at all.

My plan is to use Honda sprocket studs.

Clark, a quick test is to simply grab the sprocket and try to push/pull on it. As long as the chain isn't too tight, it will move even installed on the bike.

He's fine, just a bruise on his leg. He was more concerned with the bike lol. I didn't care about the bike. That weird way that friends are lol. I already have a new panel, brake lever, and adjusters on order. Cost less than 80 bucks. I was going to change to a different style of handlebar anyway, so that doesn't bother me.

Hey Megadan,

Tell us about this "hotdog in a hallway"?

But in the meantime, when and where are you getting the new studs? How many miles were on your Hawk when the wreck happened? Are you using the factory C-clip?

Be safe out there!

They have a gap of about a 1/16th of an inch all the way around.

New studs are three types. 71 sl350. 72 sl350, and an old XR that I dont remwmber the year. Going to test them all out and see which ones work the best. I got them off of ebay. They are NOS Honda studs. I have so many due to a seller that couldn't get my order right, so I ordered the missing ones to make complete sets. If all three types will work, I will sell the other two sets to recoup some of my cost. I should have them all no later than Friday. Factory Snap ring, and its fine.

Bike has about 250ish miles.

hey megadan
I'm trying to find the led headlight for a hawk 250.
Can you help any on that? Too bad about your Hawk and friend.
I'm sure you'll make it better than new.
