Yesterday I was riding up an onramp onto the interstate highway, fighting a stiff headwind. At times like that I really want my speedometer to be accurate. I want to know if everyone else is speeding, or my little engine doesn't have enough power to keep up with the traffic flow under those conditions. I also don't want to be performing calculations in my head, as I diligently try to keep from getting hit by an automobile.

I think the SpeedoDRD is a good, long-term investment for the RX3. This unit is very robust, and I'm sure it will last the lifetime of the motorcycle. In addition, the unit has a 3-year warranty.

Here is a link to the Setup Calculator webpage, which helps you to determine what percentage you should input to correct your speedometer output.

I received version 3.73M of the SpeedoDRD, which is the most recent version. If you use the Setup Calculator, select version M as the version type, and you will get access to additional buttons which described how to set up the advanced features of the SpeedDRD.

Yes, you really should acquire a soldering iron. If you want reliable electrical connections they should be soldered, especially the small wires leading to the SpeedoDRD.

I have one on my Kawasaki Versys. First, I changed the front sprocket to 16T from 15T. That calmed the bike down quite a bit and made the speedometer accurate but made the odometer off. I got the DRD to get the odo to read right as I care about MPG. The speedo reads a little high, which is normal. I started messing around with different rear sprockets to help with the parellel twins vibes and to tailor the gearing to the speed limits on my daily commute. The DRD kept everything accurate all through my gearing changes. The website tables are only a guide, however. I used highway markings to check to make sure the odo was reading right. The DRD allows you to set things pretty accurately. The DRD is plug and play for my bike so it was a super easy install.

The plug-and-play units are definitely easier to install. However, I emailed several photographs of the RX3 plug to Brooks at 12 O'clock Labs, and he said it didn't match any of the plugs used on the different models of the SpeedoDRD.

Could you verify if the ODO is also corrected?
We all know the speedometer has a big error but I do not really know if the ODO is proportional.

According to my GPS receiver, the speedometer was about 11 percent optimistic. The odometer was also optimistic, but a little less optimistic than the speedometer. I configured my SpeedoDRD for best accuracy with the speedometer, but you can also configure it for best accuracy with the odometer, if you choose.

I'm going to ask the really stupid question here....for $70, why would you go this route instead of a $99 trailtech vapr for an all in one completely customizable dash?

I just don't think anyone has researched the RX3 instrument wiring to make this a plug and play solution like it is for more common models. I'm sure it could be adapted to the RX3 with proper reverse engineering of the current instrument cluster wiring. Send a request to Trail Tech; the number of RX3’s in the U.S. is not insignificant at this point and growing rapidly. They migh view us as a viable market at this point.

The digital dashboard on the RX3 is superb. I installed a Trail Tech Vapor on my Honda CRF250X, and the RX3 dashboard is much nicer. I know you don't own an RX3, so I suggest you read some on this forum, and you will learn more about the RX3 dashboard.
