I have finally found my bikes main jet nirvana. 80 degrees and 50% humidity with the 135 main jet. Admittedly a bit on the rich side, but not terrible. It will load up a teeny tiny bit if the rpms are below 6k when at wot.

Repeated pulls to 74mph right at 8000rpm. She can't pull past that point simply because there is no more power. Of course now I have to fiddle with my idle mixture a bit, but i just accept that as part of the PE30 lifestyle. Always something to adjust lol.

Looks like shes running good. Yes the PE30 is a little touch with the temperature change but still love the way it runs.

Yeah. One thing I am considering doing with the cam install, and potentially swapping for a mikuni 32mm flat slide, is welding in a bung to the header so I can run a wideband gauge on the bike to not only dial in the jetting, but keep an eye on the afr as the weather changss.

It should be able to breath with that carb.

I already have the WB gauge and sensor. I just need to weld a bung in the exhaust which i think will be a must once i install the 11:1 piston and cam.

Oh I am sure the PE30 is more than enough to support the cam. What I am after is being able to utilize the CRF230 intake, which is shorter and angled much better for fitment. The issue is that it takes a 40mm carb spigot, which means I have to step up in size. I know with a cam a 32mm carb will breathe much better up top, but I worry I will be giving up too much down low and it might get a bit touchy with the throttle response.

After i do my head work, piston and cam I'm going to see how the pwk30 off my hawk works with the X22R. The PE30 would be better on the Hawk anyway just for the sake of gaining better access to the idle mixture and idles speed screw. On the X22R i have plenty of access room for the PWK30 tuning.

That actually sounds like a good idea to swap the carbs around. The PE30 is a perfect match for the Hawk. I am assuming the X22R has a straighter intake coming off of the head?

Yes the intake goes straight back. There's all kinds of room for the pod filter as well. I removed the big air box (not that i need to) but i think i'll reinstall it and seal up the holes and use it for storage for emergency items. Like air pump, plug kit and extra tools. I'll replace the three screws that hole the cover on with thumb screws for easy removal.

The wheels may be further down the road, but I can definitely do some video recording action on them. I am still undecided what route I want to go with said wheels.

On a much less exciting topic. I have concluded that with the oil cooler and using Rotella T6, the oil life is roughly 700-800 miles(ish) before it starts to have a molecular meltdown on my bike. The color of the oil if you ignore the clutch material is still a darker caramel, so it isn't black. So, yes, the oil cooler does help extend the oil life a decent amount. Even with the cooler and the little bit of added capacity, you can only ask so much from a quart and a half of oil.

On the note of the oil cooler and said Rotella T6, I have discovered simply by curiosity that making my own 10w-40 T6 (mixed a half gal of 5w40 with half a gal of 15w40) has created an ideal oil for the current weather (still in the 50's at night, 70-80 during the day). I think the 15W when it is cooler out just doesn't flow as well through the cooler. Not that it was starving for oil, but I noticed the cooler got warm a lot faster, and as a whole it just felt soother/better.

As a side note, I have also noticed that my bike has consumed a little bit of oil. About 1/4 of a quart every 300-400 miles. I have searched high and low for any evidence of leaks and I can find none. Plug shows no evidence of oil burning either, so it is just a very light amount. Now, to be fair I did notice a decent amount of fine metallic particulate in this last oil change, so my rings have also likely still been seating. Side effect of switching to synthetic oil maybe a tad bit early. Considering my bike has gained a bit more pickup recently, I may have finally got the rings seated in at 1500 miles. I will keep an eye on the oil level in the next two or three weeks just to see if it eats any more, or if the rate decreases.

In any case I guess it is a bit of a moot topic since I am going to be doing a whole new cylinder, piston, and rings with the cam install anyway. I guess this time around I will wait a bit longer before making the switch, which is fine because I have some T4 rotella with a ZDDP additive - roughly 3000ppm - to use up which will be good for the new cam break in period.
