HELP Oil smells like gas

I have a new hawk and it has had trouble idling/ starting since I received it. I have only put 65 miles on it and changed the oil and it smells like gas. Tried to start it up again after changing the oil and it barely starts. a lot of popping and very rich smelling. New oil still has a gas smell. I am letting it sit now for fear of blowing a head gasket. is this a carb problem stuck float? I just want this thing to run.

Sometimes a nice 'whack' on the carb bowl with the plastic side of a screwdriver can 'help' with a 'sticking float'... but most of the times I just take the carb apart and clean/check everything, it's easy enough with (most) of these Chinese motos

Did you make sure the Choke isn't on?

The fuel bowl is really easy to get off. Either notch the screws, or, do as I did and take a center punch (or even a large, pointed screw), make an indent or two close to the edge and then tap the screws counterclockwise.

Does it run well and just hard to start? Hard to start hot and cold? You won't blow the head gasket unless there's a lot of fuel in the cylinder when you crank it, and even then it's not very likely. If there's enough air in it to fire at all it's not hydrolocking.

Also, is fuel valve shut off when parked ?

this almost has to be a carb problem ... if you can not get the vm26 clone upgrade, you for sure must get that carb opened and check the float ... although 16 tt is correct about the head gasket, he neglected to tell you that all the extra fuel will wash all the oil off the inside of the cylinder, causing a ring malfunction and could damage the piston and cylinder, the gas in the oil could cause a whole nother set of problems with the rod bearings and wrist pin ... it would be much better to get it off and get that fixed, weather it is still starting or not ... but that is just my thoughts on it, others may feel another way

Barlow is today's carpenter ,he hit the nail square on the head .Figure it out before you ruin your engine .

Contact the place you bought it from, it should be under warranty. They may have a procedure you need to follow to get a replacement carb.

S I plaid with it some more smacked the bowl and nothing worked it I can get it to start on full choke but thats about it and it sounds really high pitched and struggles. Im waiting on a new replacement carb from the factory. I have the fuel shut off valve of when parked. I guess all I can do is wait for this carb. Should have just ordered a mikuni carb but this was free. debating if I should change the oil again since it smells like gas? havent driven it at all though on the last change.

Ok I guess im just stuck waiting on this carb for now is there any benefit in performance switching to the mikuni? Im hoping its only the carb and not a valve.

"Performance gain" I doubt will be calculable... reason most of us swap is we can't find the right jets for the dumb stock carb (pilot jet usually)... or some don't know you can 'open' their stock carb to tune it if your lucky enough to have 'common jets'

pilot jet may be difficult to find, but, unlikely you even need to change it. You can use Mikuni N100.604 for the main jet, I have a N100.604/110 in mine.

sooo the retailer dropped the ball a and didnt ship so now I have to wait till mon for them to ship

This is the jet size for the stock carb? otherwise the mikuni vm26 is the replacement carb correct.
