Not when you haven't any beer.

I apparently don't have enough to do. Did it for all three wheels.

So, it's been a year since I bought the Russian Piece Of Crap.

In that time, I replaced all four tires, the front brake pads, the branch pipes, the rear brake light switch, bike windshield, sidecar u-joints, engine dipstick, and the speedo. Some of that stuff was worn out, some of it was replaced as preventative measures. The first two Russian brake switches did fail and those were replaced by a Standard Motor Products brake light switch. Not a problem since.

I rejetted the carbs and added two ammo boxes for storage, a second fuel can, and fog lights. Put a radio in the sidecar and took it back out. I've ridden it in temps as low as +18F and as high as +97F(yesterday), though snow, rain, and sleet.

I've racked up almost 7000 miles since last year and have not been let down once. As a comparison, I've had the CX since late 2011. The engine has been out twice, I spent months chasing down an intermittent miss that was fixed by removing the new coils and replacing them with 38 year old coils. The ignition system has been updated twice. First with a FinnBoxG47 CDI and then with a Rae-San Hall Effect system. In the past six years, it hasn't racked up 10,000 miles. That said, it's still a joy to ride, but has been pretty much relegated to show duty and may be looking for a new home next year.

Most of the time. It's an 11 to 14 mile round trip, depending on the route I take. Sometimes, it's double that if I go home for lunch. I take it to O'hare airport instead of the shop truck because the Ford is such a bear to park(and I thought my Chevy was bad). Rode it today to my Dr for my annual physical, ran a personal errand, and went to work. Throw in farting around rides with Mrs. C or the Grandkids and it all adds up.

Only thing I regret about buying the beast is not doing it sooner.

Whee, new fog lights.

Nothing really wrong with the ones I installed earlier except the new LED headlight washed them out. These, on the other hand,

So, the Ural was in a car show yesterday. It was kind of a last minute deal that my son in law invited me to. Alas, I didn't think about it being a Halloween themed show. I could have at least worn my Russian Ushanka, with a Zenit camera around my neck.

Anyway, I didn't take any pics because my boss decided that if he was working on Sunday, he should be able to play twenty questions with me, so I turned off my phone.

Ended up parked next to a sweet Harley 350 that was fully set up for Halloween. The owner wasn't the friendliest guy, but he did have my back later in the day.

Met a lot of people who wanted to know about the Ural history, so I did my best on getting it straight. Did have one guy tell me the whole history of the Russians 'commandeering' all the technology and equipment to build the rigs after the defeat of Germany in 1945. I let him go on and then asked if that was true, how did the first ones roll off the assembly line in 1942. Also explained that the new Urals, as a military bike, have as much in common with the original M72 as the HD Road King has with the WLA. Those discussions were interesting.

I did run into 'that guy', though. How dare I not own an American bike. What's worse, I even bought a commie Russian bike. And on and on and on. So I just sat there, waiting for my moment. The guy then points at the Harley next to me and says, "That's an American bike." The owner of said bike is watching this and just says, "Umm, no. It's Italian." I thought I was going to choke on my coffee. The guy just stormed away from us.

No trophies won, but made a lot of little Batmans and Witches happy by letting them sit in the sidecar so their parents could take their pictures. Had a few Harley Quinns sitting on the bike, too. Where the heck were those girls in my youth?

My son in law, he never showed up. Seems my daughter deemed it was more important that he get the roof finished than "waste time" at a car show. I thought I taught her better.

My daughter and I have attended a lot of car shows together, so I hope she never pulls a stunt like that.

Next time, I encourage you to put your phone in airplane mode, so you can happily snap away and not be interrupted.
