I took a 30-mile ride this morning. When I finished the temperature was 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and the wind chill was 26 degrees Fahrenheit. The Oxford grip heaters worked great. Here are photos of my completed installation.

Thank you, Keith.

The Oxford Premium grips are designed to make the installation as easy as possible. I didn't need to install a relay or a fuse. I didn't need to do any soldering, or figure out how/where to mount the switch. The V8 intelligent controller is easy to use, including up/down buttons which control the power levels, and it will shut itself off, if I forget.

I'm very glad I purchased these heated grips. Thanks for starting the great thread, Katflap.

Those are the same grips I use on my Ural
(as stated before 4 years now and still going strong) enjoy!

I installed the heated grips CSC are offering, and I am very happy with them also, were pretty easy to install, but I spliced into the bike side of the lighting harness, so I could still remove the headlight... (CSC's installations write up splices into the harness on the headlight...probably because it is much easier to do that way) I like that they hold the setting from the last time they were used when you turn them on.

Heres an interesting twist????? If you look at their assembly pics down the page , you'll see that they install the heaters over the outside of the grips of the bike ???? then they put shrink tubing over the heater. Any one try this? I ordered 2 sets just to find out if they would work. rj

I haven't see that trick before; thanks for sharing it.

I'm sure it will work. However, I think the shrink tubing will not provide a very good grip on the handlebars. I have installed similar heated grips on two of my motorcycles, but I performed the usual procedure, and put the heater elements under the grips.

I think I will try them over the grips , then buy an extra set of grips for summer time use and just remove them when it gets warm enough. I don't want to spend a whole day installing them to see I don't like them. This will be a easy way that's easily undoable to see how they work. I don't like large grips because of my smaller hands and grips were the first thing I changed when buying the RX3. The fatter grips made my hands go numb just riding around town. I may even set up the grips in my grinder and take off 1/16" on the outside to compensate for the heating elements and shrink tubing thickness. rj

I think you could also wrap them with that tennis racquet wrap. Do they still make that stuff, haven't seen it on the shelf in years???

Maybe not. Does it need to be waterproof?

I have installed heated grips virtually identical to those on my Zongshen ZS200GY-2, and my Honda XR650L. I can assure you, they get very hot.

Those particular grips appear to have only one heat setting. The grips I installed have two heat settings. If you follow the instructions for my grips, and add a DPDT switch, you can get two heat settings for your grips, also.

http://rockymountainatvmc.com/docs/g...nstruction.pdf

Instead of using a resistor, use a flasher relay to achieve the 50% heat setting. The flasher relay will cut power in half, whereas the resistor will use as much power as the high heat setting.

Good idea Spud, thanks. I'm also wondering about a old car light dimmer switch rheostat thingy that might give variable heat ???? or a controller from a heated jacket. When you mention yours got 'hot" is that like "too hot" to keep them on and I would have to keep turning them on and off?
On another note does anyone know how to trouble shoot my heated jacket that quit working? I bought a new control for it but it still doesn't heat up. It's a Tourmaster Synergy brand. I think something (wire) inside the jacket may of broke from getting off bike
to many times and forgetting to unplug it.

Yes, they get very hot, even when located under the hand grips, even in winter temperatures. A rheostat will certainly work, but using a flasher relay is the simplest, quickest solution.
