For $3,000 I'd get out my checkbook. For $4,000 I'd consider it. For $5,000 I'd be looking for a 2012 KLR.

The day may come when the Chinese can ask similar money for their bikes as the Japanese but that day is not today. Tomorrow is not looking good either :wink: .

When Hyundai started in the US the only way they could sell a car was to be the cheapest in the country. They had to do this until their quality improved until it was at least in the ballpark of the Japanese. Nowadays I think the Hyundai is similarly priced, and similar quality of the Japanese cars.

The Chinese motorcycle export industry has not acheived this level of confidence yet, although they may.

Indeed, Honda East is selling the NC700X for $6,399, plus tax and title. Honda East never adds any bogus charges such as freight, dealer prep, et cetera.

Honda is taking on the Chinese internationally, and will surely win. The CRF250L is selling like hotcakes worldwide. How can the Chinese compete with Honda's international support network and manufacturing quality? The "800 pound gorilla" is mad as hell, and Honda is taking no prisoners! 8O

I agree completely. I love that air cooled, NX400 engine, and I would gladly pay $3,000 for the Shineray X5. However, look at the prices the Chinese importers are asking for a carbureted, 250cc motorcycle! 8O Is it any wonder the market for Chinese motorcycles has plummeted? :roll:

For a few years, Honda lost ground to the Chinese in the world marketplace for motorcycles. However, the Chinese "have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." Honda is playing for keeps, and I don't think Honda will lose. :roll:

I have bought items from Taobao, and prices there are very good. Nevertheless, the Shineray X5 is selling on Taobao for $3,861 at the current exchange rate, minus shipping charges. :?

Therefore, I seriously doubt we will ever see this bike for sale in North America for $3,000. :( However, I might be tempted at a price of $4,000. Here are a few more photographs from the Taobao ad listed above.

This really is a nice looking engine! However, the engine alone is quite pricey, and I shudder to think what the shipping charges would add to the cost. 8O

As with many Chinese motorcycles, the Shineray X5 is a heavy bike. :roll: The dry weight is listed at 145 kg, or 319 pounds. If you add all the fluids, the curb weight of the X5 is probably greater than the curb weight of the stock, Honda XR650L at 346 pounds. :roll:

Yikes! That's a lot steeper than I figured for an engine. I guessed that it would be around $600.00 from China.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shipping cost alone was $350, or more. :roll: However, it certainly is a very nice engine. I wish we could get the entire bike for $4,000, delivered, but I'm not holding my breath. :roll:

With my side business expected to pick up for the next few months, the CRF250L is definitely on my consider list. However, I am intrigued by the streetable Galaxy enduros sold by Pitster simply because of the cost being a little more than half the Honda. $4000+ is a bit of a gamble for the Shineray, not for the Honda even at $4500.

I just did some checking with some china contacts . Shipping for just the engine by air , right around $600 . By sea around $200 . If they require a bank transfer of funds that will cost $50 to process.
