Hondoid CG Motor Intake Fix

Common knowledge, Chinese rubber that comes on some of these bikes is marginal, at best....and I'm being nice. It's also known that the rubber embedded intakes on these will fail from time and heat. They start to micro crack in a bunch of places and then all it takes is a little wiggling and it will start to suck air through it...as is what happened to my X-Moto's 163FML. FYI-when this happens, the "quick fix" while you're waiting for your part is slather it with silicone, as in the pics.

I hit the web and lo and behold, found a permanent fix. An all aluminum intake manifold. I got it in about a week from China from Amazon and after a good carb disassembling and cleaning, it fit like a glove. It comes with an o-ring that seats against the head so make sure and use some white grease on it, as also the o-ring on the carb. Also, bolt the intake to the carb first, then fit it in if you have a tight frame. There is no more wiggle in the intake to wedge the carb onto the intake.

For all the new folks with Hawks and Storms, this would be a good upgrade to do when you're upgrading the stock carb and breather, all at the same time and save yourself the repair later, if you have the same setup.

Here's the link. Can't beat the price and shipping.

I'll be interested to hear if heat transfer, vibration, and vapor lock become a problem.

I'll let you know. It's aluminum so I'm sure it dissipates heat rapidly. The only thing I was thinking that may be an issue is if you have a solid mounted air box and need a little wiggle at the carb...but motor is sold mounted to the frame. I have an Uni filter that just hangs off the rear so the carb isn't sandwiched between two solid mounted objects and the carb is actually supported better now than it was hanging off a hunk of rubber.

I was really amazed at how well the piece fit.
