Possible replacement CDI for Sierra?!

Hy fellow riders!
Maybe im wrong and maybe this could work.
Could these two CDI-s be compatible?!
First one is for Lifan 150cc pit bike. Its a 4 stroke horizontal oil cooled engine.Wiring diagram is for Lifan CDI.

Here is wiring diagram for Zong Sierras CDI - 200cc,4 stroke, air cooled engine. Sockets (harness) is the same.Ignore the titles for wire colors.

I read somewhere on the forum that CDi costs aprox 25$ in USA.
Here in Croatia the price is 105$! 8O
Well i need a spare one and i cant find any of them for Zong on ebay(and dont wanna spend 100$ in Croatia for the same thing )...
So if this could work ill buy one from ebay (20$),change wire positions in the Zongs socket (harness?) to match Lifans CDI pins and test it.What do you think? :?
Greetings!

Nice find, Azriel! It appears to me the Lifan CDI unit will work for your Zong, provided you wire the pins correctly. You could probably also use the Lifan regulator/rectifier, and the Lifan ignition coil. Please keep us updated regarding your experiment. If the Lifan CDI unit doesn't work for you, I will be happy to ship you a Zongshen CDI unit from the United States.

Azriel,

If you have time, will you please post the links for the websites where you obtained the two wiring diagrams? I am especially interested in the Lifan, 150cc, pit bike wiring diagram. Thank you.

Wiring for 8-pin Lifan CDI i found on -www.monkeybiker.net- forums, electrics section of the forum.Well, the site is swedish i think, but the headlines are in english...Was looking for a time until i found this site with wiring for Lifan. This is only what i found for Lifan wiring, dont have any other diagrams for Lifans yet. If i found any i will post them.

Zongs wiring diagram i made at home, using service manual for Zong to determinate wire colors and then looking at the CDI socket to determinate pin positions.
I hope this helps somebody...

Thank you, Azriel. I own the Zongshen wiring diagram in several forms, and I found the information for the Lifan 150, wiring diagram. However, I can't find these wiring diagrams in the format you provided in this post. Did you create the diagrams you posted? If so, what computer program did you use to create these wiring diagrams?

i am also very interested to know if the lifan cdi works. it would be nice not to be limited to just zongshen for electrics. this would definetly extend the servicable life of the zong.

look forward to reading your results. shawn

You welcome!
I downloaded Lifans 150cc diagram from -www.monkeybiker.net- forums in this format. So,the lifans diagram (first picture) is originaly from monkeybikers forum.
Then just changed the color and position of wires on CDIs socket in paint to have one for Zong. Of course, i used Zongs service manual downloaded from this forum to determinate color of wires going to CDI and looked on Zongs CDI socket to ensure theirs position. So,Zongs diagram (second picture) is original Lifans diagram modifyed in paint to show how Zongs CDI is conected. :?
Now im confused!

These days i will order one CDI for Lifan from ebay and try to connect it on Zong.
If it works ill post which wire needs to be put in which position on the socket.

Indeed, it's always nice to find a new source for parts! I found the CDI wiring diagram for the Lifan, 150cc CDI unit at www.monkeybiker.net. For unknown reasons I can't post the link directly to the thread, but you can find the thread by following this trail:

1. Go to www.monkeybiker.net
2. Navigate to the forums by clicking the appropriate link at the lower left side of the main web page.
3. Go to the Monkeybike forum cluster.
4. Go to the Electric Forum.
5. Read the post "Koppla Lifan 150cc...."

The last post in this thread was made by forum member Vector, posted on July 21, 2010.

You can also find the Lifan, 150 wiring diagram at the following threads.

http://planetminis.com/f21/lifan-150...ide-82554.html
http://www.tboltusa.com/Tech_Data/in...-daytona-style

I think the Lifan CDI unit will work. You can buy the Lifan, 150 CDI units from a number of different vendors, for reasonable prices.

http://www.pccmotor.com/new-cdi-box-...-oem15007.html
http://www.tboltusa.com/store/lifan-...efaccf75bc3674

You can also purchase the Lifan, 150cc CDI units on eBay.

Thank you, Azriel. I found the wiring diagram at Monkeybiker.net. If you modify the Zongshen wiring harness, I think the Lifan, 150cc CDI unit will work. Thank you for doing this research, and thank you for posting this wonderful information!

I wouldn't be surprised if someone is also selling a "performance CDI" for the Lifan, 150cc pit bikes.

Thank you for posting the discovery of the performance CDI, Azriel. I wouldn't be surprised if we discover other performance CDI units for sale, from other vendors.

I might be wrong, but I believe the Pitster Pro, LXR pit bikes might also employ the Lifan, 150cc engine.

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=765136
http://www.pitsterpro.com/bikes/list/cat/4

Pitster Pro keeps a nice inventory of pit bike parts in its Lindon, Utah warehouse. If the Pitster Pro, LXR bikes employ the Lifan, 150cc CDI unit, Zongshen owners can probably get CDI units from Pitster Pro. Also, Pitster Pro might market "performance CDI" units for their LXR pit bikes.
