Hawk speedometer calibration

Took my bike out on the road today for the first time. Went riding with my girls son. We compared speedometer readings just to see how accurate mine was. According to his digital speedometer he was going 20 mph and mine was reading 37 mph. Has anyone else had a speedometer that far off? Also, is there a way to calibrate these short of changing the internal gears?

$95 digital one is the only fix as far as i know.

Check with Irisjew. He has a brand new never installed for @80 shipped. http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=19030 (http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=19030) The stock speedo is way off and the odometer is in kilometers. The digital cluster is dead on accurate.

i read in one of the other threads that the speedo's are calibrated to km and not mph that would explain the difference, the one that came on my bike only worked for 9 miles before it crapped out, i replaced it with the digital cluster which was dead on when I tested against a GPS.

My tests.

Verified the odometer by the mile posts:

1. On the road = 15 miles; on the odometer = 21.46 km (13.33 miles); Error - 11.1%
2. On the road = 11miles; on the odometer = 15.75 km (9.79 miles); Error - 11.0%
Calculated average correction/conversion coefficient of the speedometer readings to the miles is: 1.4312 (FYI 1 mile= 1.609344 km)

Speedometer has been verified with GPS. Actual readings:

35 mph at GPS=32 mph (error = +9.4%)
38 mph at GPS=35 mph (error = +8.6%)
40 mph at GPS=36 mph (error = +11.1%)
44 mph at GPS=40 mph (error = +10.0%)
54 mph at GPS=50 mph (error = +8.0%)

The tire pressure was: front 22 PSI; rear 32 PSI, temperature 24C, tires: Shinko 705

Thanks for the translation! I guess the easiet thing to do would make another gauge face using the conversion chart km to mph, but the odometer would still be off. Ah maybe just change the cluster.

I wish there were a way to recalibrate the oem digital techs so they don't reflect the European margin of safety.

My 2017 Hawk 250 speedometer is off by 5 mph. It shows 53 mph when my gps says 58 mph! I just thought my bike was slow. Nice surprise. Anyone else experiencing this on a recent Hawk?

The speedo is not calibrated for kph. If it was, then everybody would be showing 80mph with an actual speed of 50mph. 1 mile = 1.6kilometers. More than likely, since the odometer and speedometer are geared off of the same cable, to save costs they changed the speedo gear to something that would read remotely accurate, but left the same drive gear that also turns the odometer.

No, instead they are just woefully inaccurate. I have heard of some guys repositioning the needle on the stock cluster so that it reads more accurately. It still wont be perfect, but a little closer.

Honestly, the tach cluster is worth every penny. I love mine, and it is dead on accurate. It also gives the bike a more upscale feel, and it looks awesome at night.
