Anyone own a new bull 200? I’m seriously considering buying one for myself to ride with my kids. Not sure if I want the bull or the rhino

I suppose the main difference is the Bull uses a 170cc scooter type engine while the Rino uses the 200cc motorcycle type engine. Aluminum wheels on the Bull look nice.

I like all the new features on the Bull 200 including the extra HP of the 169cc engine. The only con I could find would be that there is no kick start on the 169cc. No way to start it if the battery craps out on the trails unless you have jumper cables or pull the battery off another ATV. I had battery issues last year out on the trails and the kick start came in handy.

I wish I could figure out a way to put a kickstart on my Rhino... cant find the mechanicals and covers to do it... figured it was the same as a dirt bike engine and could just make a custom kick lever.

I carry one of those LiPo jump start packs with me.. but wont do squat if the starter ever dies.

At least with the manual clutch someone could push or pull you with another ATV and just pop the clutch to start it. No can do with the auto clutch.

Hi all, new to the forum! Looking at the Rhino 250 or the new Bull 200 and wondering how reliable the bull 170cc motor would be compared to the Rhino.

Just taking a guess, but not necessarily a comparison, I understand that Taotao's scooter engines are very reliable (by those who own them and maintain them properly and regularly according to people on 49ccscoot.proboards.com/ Since this ATV is new, there is no data specifically on them, but Taotao scooters do well, so you should be alright.

According to people here, their Rhinos are serving them very well.

So--no clear answer, LOL

Based on what I know, however, I personally would lean to the Rhino. 'What I know' is the knowledge and experience of members here with Rhinos and those members in general with 200/223/229/etc. vertical thumpers vs. those with the horizontal ATVs. But, there will be those who chime in having few to no issues with scooter-style GY6 engines, so wait for those opinions, too. My guess is you cannot go necessarily 'wrong' with either.

I know you're comparing the Bull 200 to the Rhino but thought I'd post the 150 to 200 comparison because it shows much has changed and that it seems much of the Bull 150 hardware is also on the Rhino. Seems they really have improved things.

It looks like, at least for now, that the Bull is around $200 more expensive with some great and interesting new features. What someone is going to use their ATV for will be the determining factor if these new additions are worth it. Do you need a speedometer? Gear indicator? Hours meter? Maybe. The hours meter is useful in determining when to change the oil. The disk brakes all around contribute to safety as the Rhino front brakes are shoe and not, well, good. Do you need the bling, and weight savings, of the alloy wheels? Will you need the headlights? The lighting looks like it's better but that can be solved by adding aux. lighting as many of us have done. I guess if I was in the market again, I would probably choose the Bull. I don't use it daily and, sometimes, not even weekly. Darth and 2LZ use their Rhinos as work horses and a Bull might not measure up with it's smaller motor. But I'm sure both would agree that the hours meter and disk brakes would an asset on the Rhino that the owners of (myself included) would love to have.

Hey guys thanks for the responses, I would love to hear more! I like the features of the new Bull 200 vs the Rhino 250, especially for the difference in price. I don't think I will be using it every day, just now and then, and I would most likely ride trails/hills and such. I was concerned about the Bull cooling fan intake; seems like you would suck in water/mud if you did any water crossings. Maybe that's not an issue. My wife and kids might be better suited for the CVT type transmission in the Bull vs the manual in the Rhino. If I just bought them both I would be happy, but the wife.......well you know how that would go. Any body else have any input, I am still weighing the differences.

Darth Racer

Yeah my Rhino is usually ridden hard and put away wet and muddy.

If I was to get a Bull I would probably mess with the sprockets/pulleys/springs for more low end torque. I hear the 150cc engines (GY6) have a decent amount of pull... so the 170cc is probably a little better.

Would probably add a Magoonie carb to the Bull as well while I'm at it for some more pep.

You can add a aftermarket hour meter for 10$ they usually also have a tach in the same unit. The gear indicator is a nice option to have.

The brakes on the Rhino work fine for me even with the heavy load in tow.... I can stop on a steep incline.

Really though I see the Bull and just want a set of rims for the Rhino ... LOL if you get it will trade you some black steel rims from the Rhino.

. My wife and kids might be better suited for the CVT type transmission in the Bull vs the manual in the Rhino..

Not that manual gears are rocket science, but with family riding becoming a factor, I would lean to the Bull for ease of use The great reviews of our Rhino members are mostly those using them as workhorses vs. recreational vehicles. But, there is that very tempting price on the Rhino...

All those time estimates don't mean much..... the manufacturer has the final say.

I'm sure you will get it no matter who you order it from... it's a waiting game though with a front row ticket. The dealer just regurgitates what the manufacturer tells them. Customs can throw a couple curve balls too.

I've never been a fan of pre-order internet purchases as you can probably tell.

Get your tools together and toss the ones that come with it. Have some fresh oil and a NGK spark plug ready too. Clear a space to build it in the garage, stock the fridge with some beer....find a sturdy crate or cinder block to prop the front or rear on... stuff to pass the time by while you wait.

TXP treated my Rhino order well and picked up the phone on the first ring. You should be alright.

Yeah...this will actually be my fourth atv online order. I have ordered three Coolster from three different online dealers. Can't say I have really had a problem with any of them, but I fairly handy with a wrench and have not really had any issues I couldn't resolve fairly easily. I have plenty to ride until mine arrives....just hoping to have mine to take mushrooming soon, but it will get here when it gets here I have learned.

I would imagine yours will ship very soon as well. I contacted several online dealers about estimates for Bull 200 to come come in stock. Some we're end of April and some end of first week of May. So I would bet yours ships real soon.
This is my first time dealingg with txpowersports and thus far I have been pleased with them responding to a question or two and their prices were the best I found online. I picked the same color. There is a youtube video with a kid driving one, and I love the way it looks. I was a little torn between the Green and Grey colors. Sweet!!! Post up some pictures if you have time.

I will certainly do that.
A few things I am real curious to see like the gearing used. The torque spec is quite a bit higher then my Coolster DX2 150's. I know the TaoTao Bull 200 has around 20 more cc's, but not sure that alone would account for a 20% more torque by itself. A bit more low end torque would be a welcome thing.

Kind of disappointed to see the kick starter eliminated on the 170cc GY6 vs the 150cc GY6. Always felt it was a bit of insurance to have that secondary way of starting the ATV.

I am also curious to see if the ATV will benefit from wheel spacers or not. I purchased some 2" spacers in advance, but perhaps I may not use them if it feels stable enough on slopes without them.

The brake master cylinders have also been moved up on the handlebars...so I am hoping that don't interfere with me being able to mount my new mirrors and windshield on the Bull 200.

Not sure where upzy ships out of, but since most of these things are shipped here on a slow boat from china...distribution warehouses/online dealers who are closest to the port of entry probably benefit by way of getting there product first. Now I dont know which port these come in, but just like me sending out letters to people in various states..the state/town closest is most likely going to get there letter first. Same would go for these china products I would imagine????

Got mine today. Nice looking ride. I dove right in and put it together this evening. Went together pretty well. The foot Wells are kind of a pain to get the holes to line up but I wrestled with them and finally got them on. The only damage I could find on the whole ATV was there is a piece that is busted on one of the Wells. Nothing critical but probably will see if I can get that piece replaced.

Rode mine quite a bit yesterday on the trails...it did a fine job. A couple tips I would share though...so you guys know what to look for during assembly. First off pay close attention to that foot well on the right side. The exhaust pipe is super close to the lower part of the well. Mine had a warped spot in the well and actually came into contact with the hot exhaust pipe and burnt a hole. So be sure to look at yours carefully. My well on the other side had a piece missing out of it....so probably try to get it replaced.
Another thing to look for is make sure your front brake flexible lines do not rub on inner tire. Simply fix is to tie them back a bit with a couple zip ties. I also run a zip tie around the line keeper just so a stick don't knock that off.
Expect a bit of engine vibration for first few hours
The engines are hard mounted to prevent movement, but it gradually smoothes out as the cvt belt wears in.
Other then a few minor things to tweak the Bull 200 did a great job in the timber yesterday. The suspension is a HUGE inprovement over the Coolster DX 2 150's I have. Not a Honda ride but definitely a huge inprovement and a big step in the right direction for sure.
For an ATV in this price point I am highly impressed with the value you get for the amount of money you spent.

Nice looking machine in the flesh. I don't know about the rest of the guys but I would really like to see the hour/speedometer set up. We haven't seen these on the low cost ATVs. Can you get us some pictures? I'm really curious on how the speedo is getting it's input. Is it a cable off of the wheel or a sensor from the motor?

ckangaroo70
05-06-2018, 08:13 PM
The speedometer is a nice feature but there are some issues with it. First off it measures in kph instead of mph that most of us Americans use as a speed measurement. It also does not store accumulative miles. Works more like a trip meter that resets when you turn off the atv. It stores no memory. It looks like it may have a low fuel icon but can't be sure of that. Forgot to look when the tank was empty. It does show whether you are in DNR. Just mainly wish I could program the speedo to measure mph. I will get some photos.

JerryHawk250
05-07-2018, 10:09 AM
Check on the rear of the speedometer for a button to switch between MPH and KPH.
I had a similar issue with my UTV. The hour meter would reset if I turned off the ignition. Turned out that the memory wire was connected to the ignition instead of directly to a power source. Bad design because if you ever changed the battery it will reset back to zero. Seems like it should store the mileage when disconnected from a power source. Contact the dealer. Might be a bad cluster.

Finally did get my winch mounted. Fit in there pretty good. As far as the speedo..I probably need to tear into that and see if there some sort of programmer button on the circuit board. I know it is capable of displaying mph because all the program options show up for a split second when you first turn the key on. Just may need a special programing tool to change. We will see.

My winch is just one of the 2000# cheap ones off eBay that comes with the mounting plate. I then just buy U bolt clamps and clamp it down to the framing. I like the cheap 2000# winches off eBay because they have a lower amperage requirement then some others. This means that our small battery cam run the winch even with ATV not running. My brother has a winch that demands more amps and his ATV must be running for it to work properly.

Glad to hear your ride showed up.

Regarding the speedometer...I found that it is indeed storing the total mileage. I have 36 miles on mine thus far. It is the trip that does not keep the information stored. The hour meter works just fine. I have 4 hours thus far.

Be sure your exhaust bolts are tight and that the exhaust is not rubbing or hitting anything. I have had to tweak mine. They have that exhaust tubing and muffler mounted really close to the frame.

Still have some vibration I need to sort out. It has settled down a bit the more miles I have put on it, but there still some there that will make your feet tingle. May improve a bit more once the chain wears in good, but may have to inspect the clutch if it dont. I like to tinker...so I will tinker till I get it sorted out I am certain.

That sure sucks! I will have to make a note to not have any future dealing with Upzy.
I have ordered 2 ATV's from Killermotorsports with good results, another ATV from powersportsmax and my newest Bull 200 from txpowersports. Txpowersports had the best price on the Bull 200.
I did turn in a claim to txpowersports for a burnt out left headlight and let them know about a busted piece on one of my foot rest. So I will get to see how responsive their customer service is.
I never had any issues to report to the other retailers I have used...so can't really say how well they would respond to an issue.
Hope you have better luck with whomever you buy from. Big thumbs down to Upzy!

Just an update on my order from Upzy...they no longer respond to my emails asking for an update on when they expect their order of the Bull 200. I've asked them to cancel my order and provide a full refund so I can order one from basically any other site that has them in stock. Not happy with Upzy one bit.
Scratch them off the list and move on. Q9spowersports have them in stock and have good service. They are a brick and mortar dealership and will pick up the phone and answer it. The reason most people have hear much about them is because they haven't done anybody wrong to piss them off. lol

How did you wire them up?

There are three wires going to each headlight. White//Blue/Green. My led light set has a Red/Black wire coming out of each light. Wire black to black and red to red and then red to white and black to blue. Then just run off either the left or right wiring going into either headlight.
This configuration works like this. When the headlights are on and on low beam...only the atv stock lights are on. When you push the switch for high beam all the lights come on. Like looking into the sun.lol

Perfect, this is how I wanted to wire mine. I have seen some people wire off the battery, but I wanted to use the wires from the headlights. I'm hoping there is an auxiliary plug that I can use for this on the Bull. On my Son's Coolster 125cc, there is a auxiliary plug for an additional light to be plugged into.

Could you provide a link to the lights you purchased? I would like to get an idea how bright they are, and what the power requirements are.

Thanks for the help.

I decided to inspect that speedometer to see if there was a programmer on the board. No programmer to be found. Might just be a case of unsoldering one wire and moving it to one of the empty locations, but I am not smart enough that know which. I am a pretty good solderer, but I need a schematic detailing what is what.

Have not called but may try to do that. Yeah it is definitely an option. When first turn the key on all potential options are displayed for a split second and then it reverts to it's programmed state. Mph and kph is one of the options displayed for a split second before it automatically chooses kph for you.

So you have turn signals on the Bull and a fuel gauge? I saw the markings on the board for L and R and wires hooked to it, looks like you do.

Does your ATV have a VIN card rivited to the frame? Also, does your emissions label say it's compliant with CA emissions? All I could find was a sticker on the frontof the frame that says frame ID. The emissions label just says it is EPA compliant.

Did you get a paper title with your bike? Idid not get one with mine, but my Apollo, and Coolster did.

ckangaroo70
05-10-2018, 07:03 AM
There is a plate riveted to the frame in front but haven't got dowm there on my knees to try to read it. I assumed it was a frame ID or vin. I got certificates with my three Coolster ATV's as well but not with this Tao Tao.
Not required to title it where I live but might be handy to show proof of ownership in case it was stolen or a home disaster. My ATV'S do get stickered from the city so I can run on the city streets.

As for California emission standards..all three of my coolsters had lean jetted sealed California carbs that were unsuitable for Illinois climate. I had to modify the carbs to make jet accessable. So I am hoping my Bull 200 does not have a California carb.

I ran 1 hour on cheap 10-40 dino oil and then drained that and put in 750ml of 10-40w Royal Purple. I used to build racing go kart engines and that Royal Purple is some seriously good stuff. Everybody has an opinion on oil, but on the track it was obvious who ran the good stuff vs the not so good stuff. I had some of the highest hour engines on the track. Thanks a million for taking those photos Douglas. Nice of you to do that since there is no issue with your speedometer. So thanks for helping a brother out.

After comparing your board to mine...I can't see any difference in wire configuration. However I do notice that my board is PSO4437A and your board is a PSO4437B. So my guess would be yours has some different diode/capicitor configuration there somewhere that makes yours different then mine. I think my best bet is going to be to order a new board if they ever become available if I ever want my display to read mph. Otherwise just have to learn to calculate the conversion in my pea sized brain. lol

Do either of you have a picture of the other side of the board?

I think there might be a jumper or jumped soldered/un-soldered position to enable/disable MPH.

It doesn't make sense to have two separate boards for MPH/KM/H. There has to be a function on the board to select either.

Even the method of calculating distance would need some sort of way of calibration for how many revolutions = set distance to compensate for different sized tires (circumference)

Just whatever you do.....DON'T mess with that yellow trim pot. If you do you might need a spectrum analyzer to get it set right again otherwise the board will be useless. It's glued to it's setting for a reason.

It will be something as simple as touching two wires.... something any grunt on the assembly line can handle with no skill.

Still would call TaoTao customer support on this one. I really doubt you are the only one with this question.

The other side has the display, but I will try to get a picture up today.

I do have a question, When I was draining the assembly oil from the engine I found two plugs under the front of the engine. Drained those, but I found a third small drain plug in the back under what I believe is the gear box. I loosened the plug a little so I was able to get a little fluid out, and it is actual oil (different from the engine oil). Is the fill plug under the plastic side cover on the left side? I was going to remove it to check, but there is a gasket between the block, and the cover. I didn't want to risk tearing the gasket.

ckangaroo70

The plug under the gear case is gear case oil. I drained mine and put in new 80/90w gear lube. I filled mine from the bottom. Just stick the tip in there and squeeze till you see a bit come into top vent line.

I pulled the display again, I do not see anything on the front of the board that looks like it would change the display. I think they must have a KPH board, and a MPH board. You could try the dealer to see if you could get a replacement display, or trying TaoTao. I'm also curios to the accuracy of the gauge. It would help to see it. The difference is the revision change... the layout for the most part is the same... most likely some kinks worked out. Or they just figured out a way to make the board cheaper.

I really can't believe that they make two different boards just for the sake of displaying MPH or KPH .... it raises the production costs... over a small block of code that X amount of times = MPH and a second line that contains X amount of times = KPH

There is a way to select MPH or KPH .... it's method just isn't clear. Most would just use the paperclip through the tiny pinhole method to hit a button on the board.

Wondering now if they are using a button combination like: Hold the High beam button in on startup. If there are no buttons on the board, no jumpers to cross then they may be using the external buttons and switches of the ATV to change settings.

Its common on aftermarket speedometers to have to set the distance/diameter of the wheel. How many revolutions equals X amount of feet. That feeds into MPH/KPH math that is displayed.

It would have to be some sort of combination on the Bull that you are not likely to do under normal use to trigger the change.

ckangaroo70
05-16-2018, 06:40 AM
As far as the speedometer goes... Douglas is right that there is nothing at all on the flip side of the circuit board except for the display.
I thought the same thing about possible program change being some sort of combination of using a switch on the handlebars. This may indeed be the case but I couldn't get anything to happen after trying different combinations of things.
I believe the speedo must work off a magnet with a pick-up on the rear sprocket. Can't see it real good without removing the guard.

Darth Racer
05-16-2018, 09:18 PM
That is right.. magnet passing by a magnetic proximity sensor on the sprocket.

If nothing on the front then its most likely a certain combination of handle bar button presses.... or just holding one in on startup. Possibly just hitting one button a certain number of times quick.

Ok, so I finally was able to drive the ATV today. I'll admit I am a little disappointed with the performance and speed. The Bull has a good amount of torque from a stand still, but seems to be a little flat after about 12mph. Next thing that was a little disappointing was the top speed. The most speed I was able to get out of it was about 31-32mph with wide open throttle. Per TXpowersports, they have it listed around 55mph as a max speed. I'm not even close to that. It made little difference going up or down hill for top end speed. Do these have a break in period, and afterwords the bike will gain top end speed? Is there a speed limiter somewhere I can remove?

I just talked with my brother in law, and hw thinks there might be a speed reducing ring in the transmission area. Has anyone heard of the TaoTao having one of these?

for the life of me, I can not find a way to adjust the chain either. TaoTao has chain tensioners listed for the bike in their parts list, but I can't see them anywhere. The chain also has a weird looking link next to the master link on the chain.

I'm not familiar with the new rear swing arm setup and rear end to comment on how to adjust the chain tension.

See if there is a limit screw on the throttle... some TaoTao ATV's have this as a feature so the little kiddies don't go fly down the road at 50

Could just be the same issue I had which was a crappy carb.... went with a generic mikuni for dirt cheap made a world of difference.

The weird looking link might be a Half Link... nothing abnormal. You use one of them when plus or minus one full link won't give you the right range on the tension adjuster bolts.

It could be a special link to trip the speedometer possibly too. They use a proximity switch to count revolutions.

The carbureter on this bike looks like it is a very high quality unit. I would be surprised if it was the cause. I can see on the rpm gauge that the RPMs are almost maxed out when I am around 30-32mph. I have replaced the carbs on my son's atv, and both my Apollo dirt bikes, and the carburetors did make a nice difference.

The weird looking link might be a Half Link... nothing abnormal. You use one of them when plus or minus one full link won't give you the right range on the tension adjuster bolts.

You are right. It is a half link. I was hoping to install an Oring chain, but I probably wont be able to, especially if I can not adjust the chain tension.

It could be a special link to trip the speedometer possibly too. They use a proximity switch to count revolutions.

The speed sensor is located very close the the center of the rear sprocket.

What pisses me off, is the Bull goes about as fast as my son's 125cc Coolster ATV. The bull has a lot more torque from a stop, but I was hoping I would see max speeds closer to 40-45mph. I spoke with the guy from TaoTao today, and he says the 30-32mph sounds about right.

Darth Racer

It could be a decent carb... looks don't mean squat if the jetting is "off" and setup to suit EPA regs. From what I hear the stock carb on the Rhino isn't bad if you get it apart and re-jet it.

i bought some u-bolts, but couldn't figure it out.... got hacksaw out, drill out, and grabbed some bolts laying around. snug as a bug in a rug....

Is 30-33 mph typical, or a decent top speed for ATV?

yes, good question. why would speed be an issue with these style atv's?
30-35 is fast enough for a 'point A to point B' atv or for simple farm use, or even moderate to medium trail use. speed is for those atv's without racks on them. this is my point of view here in the bull 200 topic. why would anyone want this type of atv that went faster? a stock bull200 will do 35 at best for 200lb guy

Ok cool, thank you for confirming.

Also, I'm surprised no one has commented on the break in speeds (unless I missed it), but I would NEVER attempt top speed until sufficient break in period is done. I've never heard of any kind of bike or motor period, where that would be advisable. Hopefully one of the seasoned guys will weigh in on specifics, but I would be waaaaay more careful breaking that puppy in.

:D HAHA I think that's called just a "break" procedure vs. "break in".

Usually recommendations are pretty close to the same with most bikes / atv's, use varied speeds, no extended constant speeds ie. using fluctuating revs, but nothing more than 3/4 throttle. Generally speaking anyway.

Is this the same with Tao's? I haven't seen anything in writing, but I'd hate to see any new guys burn their motors up.

Thanks for the heads up, I forgot to add that prior to running the bike to top speed I did three idle heat cycles, then four easy runs around the neighbor hood. The web site I purchased the ATV from lists the speed at 55mph, so I didnt think running the bike at thirty was a big deal, until I realized that 30mph was almost the top speed. It wasn't just a start up, and balls to the wall run LOL, but a good point to make.

Anyway, I took the bull out on some pretty intense trails, and hill climbs yesterday. I put about 3.5hrs of moderate to heavy usage. The bull went up anything I attempted very imrepssed with the performance. After driving many of the trails my speeds were around 15-22mph, and I didn't real feel like the max speed was an issue.

So, my exhaust pipe to head bolts came loose towards the end of the run, and it has also developed an exhaust leak at the area where the EPA pipe bolts to the area on the exhaust pipe on the right side. I have a question about the gasket to the exhasut pipe to cylinder head. Are these a one time use, or can they be reused? I am getting a little exhaust chirping after the ATV gets warm, and I'm thinking it may be coming from that area.

I changed the oil this morning, and the oil looked good. Nothing unusual as it drained. I also pulled the spark plug last night, and the burn looks very nice.

Sometimes if you are just removing and reinstalling the exhaust you can be lucky and reused. But most of the time, especially if it loosen and ran a while you will need to replace it as it usually gets burnt.

You don't want to over tighten. I usually snug up the nuts and then alternate back and forth from nut to nut until I feel it's tight enough. About 15 ft/lbs It may be less on the gy6 depending on bolt size. I've been doing this for a while so kind of have that built-in torque wrench. lol

I wanted to confirm that the exhaust gasket is shot. The style in that is in the Bull has a metal ring, wrapped in an insulation/packing material which is now gone LOL.

NGK-C7HSA is the plug I am using. I put that plug in before I even started the unit for the first time.
As far as ATV with GY6 break-in....my method is one tank of gas on 10w-30w dino oil driving fairly easy, but finding some places to lug the engine a bit like long "not to" steep grades or throw a passenger on to help lug the atv a bit. Do this in a few 15 minute cycles at first. Once its time to fuel again....change the oil to a good 10w-40w synthethic 4 stroke oil.
Now...just ride the thing like you plan to ride it.
From my kart racing experience... 4 stroke engines like to be lugged down a bit on break-in. On a dirt oval banked track I would do 20 laps in 3 cycles and shifting weight by swerving around the track at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. This would throw weight from side to side and alternate weight on rear axle/front spindles.
Then change the oil to Royal Purple 10w-40w....run that kart rpm up to spooky territory and race it like you stole it.;)

The bolt facing the camera on the bottom left might be the one for tightening the chain... there will be another bolt probably to loosen the rear assembly so it can pivot when the chain tightener is adjusted.

It's a belt driven engine. Changing sprocket teeth will do nothing. The cvt, meaning the variator and clutch drive the chain. Plenty of ways to get more torque by hooking up the cvt system. But I don't think taking teeth off the sprocket will do anything cuz it's not a chain driven engine. Just my 2 cents.

Darth Racer

Changing the output sprocket to a smaller one will help with torque. Adding a larger sprocket to the rear will help too.

The theory is the same whether it is a CVT or a geared transmission. At the end of the CVT is a sprocket. That is what outputs the drive to the chain and rear sprocket.

I did that mod to my minibike that has a torque converter on it. Same principle as a CVT. 10t in the front and 60 tooth on the rear made for a ton of torque.

Al
07-17-2018, 09:21 PM
I believe the math is for every tooth removed from the small sprocket u put 3 teeth on the back sprocket. General rule

wldrbob
07-18-2018, 12:03 AM
if for example you have 15 tooth in front and 45 in back you have 3 times the torque if you change to 12 in front it runs up to 3.75 ..if you leave it 12 and go to 50 in the back its4.16 but you wont go fast anymore but you can pull like crazy...

zackattack91
07-18-2018, 12:27 PM
Yeah I guess you're right. Because regardless the. Chain turns the wheels. I just personally think you can leave the stock sprocket and tune the CVT to your liking. There's endless performance parts for these engines because they are the same as a scooter engine.

I did both to the minibike.... it had some adjustment on the torque converter.

zackattack91

These CVT engines have the variator, clutch and belt. You can increase or decrease the grams of the weights in the variator. You can get tighter springs for the clutch, a better quality clutch with Kevlar pads. Get a Kevlar belt. These are all common tuning things with the cvt. I learned alot from scooter sites and ordering performance parts for my engine. It's the 150cc, the bull 200 has a 169cc. They've been putting them on quads for years. Bigger name brands like Polaris have them on a bunch of their quads. Way more complicated though.

How deep you going??? you can snorkel it

ckangaroo70
07-22-2018, 07:55 PM
You could pull a garden plow with one of these if you played with the sprockets to make it do that. I used to race gokarts and you could make the thing climb a tree if you wanted. Might only top out at 5 mph. but 170cc engine is plenty power plant to make it as fast or slow or no torque vs lots of torque as you wish. Set it up for your needs as best as possible, but you will always sacrifice speed for more power or gain speed if you don't mind being a dog off the line.

The only way to have more to overcome the trade off's is to go with a much larger displacement engine or find all the aftermarket hop ups you can. Bigger cam, bigger valves and springs, big bore carb, etc. etc. etc. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

there should be studs in there.... you have to remove t he nuts.. then tighten the studs into the head so they are good and tight,,, then put the nuts on there,,, the heat will not let locktight would due to the high heat temp.. so made sure they are bottom out and tight,,, then you can put lock washers on or self locking nuts ... or double the nuts if you can get them on... you can always put longer studs so you can double nut it..

I was just wondering if part 19 would work on this engine to get your air intake snorkle up some,it comes on the 170cc snowmobile engine that also has a pull start as well as electric start. It's a GY6 engine on partskit website as well as the GY6 bull engine, probably be a direct swap if anyone was needing a new motor that has pull starting.https://partskit.com/product/engine?m=110967
You'd have to watch your left foot and not get into the pull start pulley unless there is a cover with pull start in it.

I have been using Rotella 15w40 since it was new. I have about 28 hours on the ATV, and all seems good. I will admit that I drive it like it was stolen about 75% of the time. I also change the oil every few hours. The manual will have oil weight suggestions based on temp. Use this as a guide. Also, if you use to thick of an oil it may cause an issue with oil not properly lubricating the moving parts. Here where I am at temps are about 45-100 deg., but I usually wont run it to much when its in the 90s.

That's what I got to put in mine,Rotella 15W-40.Do the floor boards just go over the fenders or do they go between the black guards on the outside and the white fender on the inside?
Also how much oil do these take,I just got 1 quart?

There is a metal cage/bracket that bolts to the bottom. Install that first, then install the plastic foot wells. They will bolt together over the body.

Also how much oil do these take,I just got 1 quart?

I think it is 800ML, just a little less than a quart. Put 800Ml in, make sure the engine is level, and check with the dip stick. Do not screw the dip stick in when checking the level. Just push the dip stick flush to the housing and check.

Also there are two engine drain plugs. One on the bottom, and one on the side. Try to get as much of the shipping oil out. Do a few heat cycles, then change the oil again.

The oil plug near the back is for the gear oil, and the fill plug is located on the side just being the CVT belt cover. You could probably leave the gear oil in for a few runs.

What is this thing and is it supposed to be plugged in somewhere?

Nope, just zip tie it so it is out of the way, and wont get caught. Probably fine were its at. I left mine were it was from the factory.

Mine doesn't have that motor brace, maybe they figure it's not needed,I thought I had my footrest cage on backwards because I was looking for that motor brace to go on the right side.
Are you sure about the dipstick and not screwing it in,I screwed mine in to check when changing the oil.I reckon as long as your in the cross hatch area you'll be alright.
I just used the drain plug on the left side, but should you maybe take the one on the bottom out from time to time to clean the screen?

Got my title in the mail from Manny yesterday,so 5 days to get my atv and seven days to get my title,5 stars and a thumbs up for Manny & TxPowerSports in my book so far.I got one place not too far away that sells non alcohol gas so I got to take a jug and get some and see if this bull is going to run.

Put some non alcohol gas in it and started right up,noticed my hour meter is not working.Drove it about 1/2 a mile on level terrain, just wish my hour meter was working.I'm going to email TxPowerSports and see if they might can help me out on that.

08-19-2019, 09:21 AM
I contacted TxPowerSports about the hour meter, they told me to go to partskit.com and find the right one and give them the Sku# which is 101382,not a lot of experience with hour meters other than the one I put on my little Champion generator and with it you had to wrap the single wire around the spark plug lead.I see this one has 2 wires going to it,black and green. When I check with a multimeter, should it read 12V dc with key turned on?I'm scared it's not going to show no voltage at all, then what?
That hour meter has 4 locking tabs in each corner,I took a thin piece of wire and used it to push in the tabs on each side to get it to pop out.

dugndeep
08-19-2019, 09:32 AM
I just went and checked and I got 12V from the 2 wires so it is the meter that is bad, good.Next thing is my idle, needs to be turned up just a tad.
Heat index here was 116 degree's F yesterday so I only run it yesterday morning and today it is going to be the same.My thermometer sensor is on the porch so that 100 degree's it was showing was a little higher than if the sensor was out in the yard where there would be a little wind.Still dang hot though.
I read this again and seen I had typed in 136 degree's instead of 116.

Interesting that they didnt put on the brace anymore. It clearly takes some engine weight and movement since a few of us have had ours break.

I'm noticing engine vibration and was wondering is it because they eliminated that brace.I'm hoping it will calm down some when it get's broken in better.I don't see it on the footrest cage you can buy at partskit.com either.I might fab one up but instead of welding might drill two holes and bolt on to footrest tube.
I ordered some M6 lock nuts and stainless steel neoprene EPDM washers to replace all those serrated flange hex lock nuts they used to hold the fender flares on with, you know their going to vibrate loose at some point.Plus it needs some bigger fender washers added to the body to frame mounts under the seat.Just 3 I think.

I went to Lowe's and got 4 fender washers and 4 rubber washers for those 3 bolts under the seat that hold the plastic body to the frame.Plus I got a sheet of 1/16" rubber that I am going to make some rubber washers out of to put under all those fender flare bolts that don't have nothing but the bolt head riding on the plastic fender flares.I got a 3/4" hollow punch to make those with.

Anybody added a tow hitch and if yes, what?I noticed the Bull's hitch plate slants down at an angle. It doesn't stick out far enough to use as is.Make a turn to sharp and your tongue on your trailer is into the back end and chain guard.I thought about something like this,it's just $15.99 on Amazon or something like the 2nd pic for $11.99 at Harbor Freight.Mainly what I got this atv for is to use here on the farm pulling a small cart, riding over the hill to the pump house and check on the pump and my spring water, dragging limbs, fence post, etc.

Got the brace I made installed,it was engineered and drawn up with that brace and don't know why they would eliminate it.That brace was put there to counter the torque being applied to that side of the engine because of the sprocket driving the chain.I feel better knowing it's on there now.I don't know why they couldn't include it so the owner could put it on while assembling after you have the footrest cage on.

I just didn't want to weld on the frame and weaken it.It did take some of the vibration away but still more than I would like, really vibrates your feet on the footrest.
I would suggest to anyone who has recently bought one to look into making a brace, couldn't hurt.
The bolt that screws into the motor tab is a M8-1.25 x 30mm,actually wanted a 40mm long bolt so I could add a locking nut but couldn't find one locally.

I've been seriously considering buying one of these to replace my little FourTrax, but I have some questions. How wide are they? Do you have to worry about the CVT belt getting wet and slipping? Has no one gotten more than 39mph out of it? (FourTrax 200D will do 42mph) Can you get a performance exhaust for it? And finally is there a better option for the price?

I have about 5 acres of wood's on my property where 2 creeks converge into 1.I used to bush hog what I could get to but haven't had the tractor down in there for about 10+ years so it literally has turned into a jungle. My plan is to clear a trail down through there so I won't have to get on the public highway to go and check my pump house,I have a spring that flows into the creek after it converges into 1,I was able to take the atv to where I was going,it was rough going,I'm going to have to take a chainsaw next time and cut up some downed tree's but what surprised me about the Bull 200 was the power and torque.I spun the rear wheels a few times but was able to get turned around and back out, thing is I lost one of my front wheel's dust cap which I didn't know until I got back to the house. So I grabbed a machete and traced all my path's that I had made and found it,like I said it's a jungle. It's missing a couple of tabs.I reckon I will have to order a new one unless I can jiffy rig this one.I wish it was rubber like the Rhino 250's.

Finding a better battery is not as easy as I thought either.5-3/8" wide by 3-1/2" thick,I don't think the height will matter as much. This might fit in there as long as it's not to tall. It's a 14ah battery. It's 5.3"x3.5"x6.6" tall.
