That was so easy. 20 minutes tops and the Grom forks in there stock form are better then the clone forks, I didn't think they would be at 1st. I will up grade them at some point though.

Could you elaborate a little on the upgrade , be nice to know if you swapped brake caliper / rotor from Grom or used stuck one, wheel / fender, etc .

I've been dying for this. Waiting to find an affordable donor that doesn't cost more than my whole bike,....

Currently I'm still using the stock calipers, ( Grom calipers not installed yet) rotors are EBC, ordered for a Grom, wheels are stock, fender stock, Grom forks do not have the stopper for the clone speed sensor but when u tighten axle it holds sensor in place. Fork mounting point measurements are top triple tree-41mm bottom triple tree -45mm

More like "Mr. Goes To The Local Food Pantry Cause He Spent The Grocery Money On Mods

I can not add anything more to the list. It is limited to 500 characters. Using HTML to change the font took up some of the characters too.

Probably will need to start using abbreviations.

Closest I found was 285 on Ebay so far. Was hoping to find better condition than that listing. Tried some forums, offerup, letgo, CL, but nothing,.... Something'll turn up hopefully

Can I ask what year grom forks you went with? I wonder if they're all the same or 14-15 different from 16,17,18,....

Try Facebook Marketplace. I find all kind of goodies on there. I picked up a set of 4 never used take off ATV tires and rims for $100. I just search my area and found all kinds of Grom parts but no forks.

Yesterday I'd asked a seller on Ebay if he'd mic a 2018 set and he replied with 39.5 and 41mm.?
No worries though. I think I have some 2014's lined up.

Going to be great to get rid of those turd shocks for good.

So the 2018 are smaller, the ohlins kit is for all yrs, does not give u a choice to order for certain yrs.

Did some asking around and someone said the 2014& 2015 are the same and 2016-2019 are the same but they said they have 2 different part# but ohlins has 1 kit for all yrs so if that's the case then mine must be from a 2015.

No idea which you got... but...that is correct. On the Grom, the 1st gen and the 2nd gen have different fork internals.

The Nd4SPH (however you spell it) fork mod works on the 1st gen but not on the 2nd gen forks.

I looked for the Nd4SPH mod but was unable to locate anyone that had it or where to get it so I just went with the Race Tech springs .065. I have not installed yet but will be an improvement I'm sure.

The mod is basically some parts from a hardware store. The top of the idk what it is called sits inside the fork cap. What the mod is, is that it creates a spacer so that it adds more preload.

https://www.hondagrom.net/forums/49-grom-how-s-guides/9933-how-nd4-s-fork-upgrade-mod-15-bucks-worlds-better.html

This works only on the 1st gen Grom forks.

For the second gen Grom forks...

https://www.hondagrom.net/forums/7-grom-talk/33242-add-preload-17-sf-forks-free.html

In the two links, you can see how they're different. I have no idea how the Grom Clone forks are (I never opened mine up).

Either way... I think swapping to the Grom forks like you did is the best option since it opens you up to the aftermarket fork internals.

Take down was a bit different than expected. I found you need to remove forks from the triple clamps to enable one to grab ahold of the caps to remove.
Shush319 On the Honda Grom site 8/13/17. Explains his dilemma and what he found.
I have a BD125/10 and appears to be near identical to the Gen 2 and so can do his mod to gain some preload.
You see 1 shock in the normal position and the other has the approx. .5" threaded towards the cap. Hope this does it. I can't find my measuring cup.
Anny idea how much in each fork is needed?

wlfpck (http://www.chinariders.raptorrefuge.com/member.php?u=33435) Thanks for that write up, I was aware that it did consist of some hardware items but did not have a list to go by. Next yr when I get around to improving the forks I might try this along with new fork oil and the race Tech springs. Thanks again.

No problem!

This is the part list that is for the 1st gen Grom to do that ND4sph mod.

2x - 59363-F - 1in Spacer (5/16ID - .469in OD - 1in Long)
4x - 3815-F - Neoprene washer (7/16ID - 1in OD)
2x - 43110-N - M8x50 1.25 pitch bolt
2x - 43893-E - Small M8 Washer

The part numbers are from Hillman.

That's good to know. I think you should find something to take up the now hollow space inside that cap though. Maybe it's overkill but better safe than sorry kind of thing.

Scroll down to post #4. The screenshot from Facebook. The person put a small steel rod in there so all the load isn't just sitting on the nut and threads. May not be a bad idea.

I have a Grom SF now... so I was planning on doing this and upgrading the fork oil.

As for your question on how much fork oil is needed... I'd recommend using a measuring cup and seeing how much you take out. I have no idea.

My Vader/10 front suspension is similar to the Gen2 Groms. Here a couple pix of the innards.

These are the Preload adjusters I used on my Gen 2 Vader https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRsTfipebiY they are from SSR , pretty sure they were about $99 . Together with a fork oil change to 15w they made them pretty decent .These are adjustable as far as preload, you can get a set of Takagawa preload adjusters for like 49$ from WeBike but they are a set " max" preload and are not adjustable .

. I have a gen 2 Vader BD10 that I think is similar to the gen2 Grom..Picture of the bolt and washers 2, a spacer and small washer and rubber washer is for the gen 1 mods. the Gen 2 doesn't have that style cap. the right side with a rubber washer already in the cap ring and 2 large washers I hope will give the intended pre load. Or; 2 rubber washer, 1 large steel washer???:hmm:

This is the post I was referring to. This is for the second gen Grom not the first gen.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170814/e653dc6160f62c74b44093d561ccd6c7.jpg

But basically, on the Grom SF and from your picture, the clones, when you move the nut upwards, you are creating a gap between the fork cap and the top of the threaded fork rod. The post that I linked, the guy says that he moved the nut up towards the top of the fork rod. To fill in the gap, he put in a small piece of metal rod so that there's no gap between the fork rod and the fork cap.

First he replaced the nut that came on the fork rod with one that was wider/thicker. Then the washer that he's talking about goes on top of the new nut that was threaded on the fork rod. Then he put a metal rod in the cap to take up the gap that is now between the top of the fork rod and the fork cap.
