Received and installed the center kick stand today. (Thanks for the link herbie!)
I'm at 1100 miles now and really enjoy this bike! With the new exhaust, I'm easily able to cruise at 75 now and have gone as fast as 87. I've tried with and without the baffle and the top speed is the same and I like the sound with and without the baffle. Of course my wife likes it more with the baffle so it's staying in - happy wife, happy life. I also ordered a different baffle from eBay and tried it as well. It installs at the front of the muffler and sounds about the same as the stock baffle at the end of the muffler. I did open up the holes just a bit on the stock baffle which gave it about 1.5% more throaty sound. haha.... I am currently running a 17 tooth front sprocket and the stock rear sprocket and can hit 75 in 4th. Only other mods I've done are new front and rear turn signals, a phone mount and a bluetooth helmet speaker/mic setup. Since I've owned the bike, I've put roughly 50 miles on my gas guzzling car and don't miss it a bit. I always look forward to riding now and usually go for a ride after dinner when my wife and her mom go for a walk. Really glad that I bought this bike! |
I really like the baffle in sound of the exhaust, Thanks for sharing the info on the KPT exhaust Jim, I'm very happy with it.
I have a 17-tooth sprocket as well and it just runs out of steam leaving 5th with very little and 6th kind of useless really. The 16 tooth seems to work the best, BUT the thing is the 15 works good too it just runs at a higher rpm and if you encounter strong wind or hills in top gear the 15 tooth almost seems to work better. Thats why I flop back and forth on the 15 and 16 tooth sprockets, they both have advantages, it just depends on how much interstate riding I'll be doing. I've about worn out my 2 little bolts taking them in and putting them back :lmao: Just my opinions of course |
I ran the 16 tooth as well for a few weeks before installing the 17 tooth. The majority of my daily commute is on the highway and cruising at 75 seems to be its happy spot.
My average mpg over 1100 miles is just under 102 which make me smile ear-to-ear. Wish I had bought this bike sooner! |
I had a good day of riding today and got to put a few miles on the KPR with the new exhaust. I went 273 miles and put 3.08 gallons of gas in it. Thats 88.6 mpg! I did a lot of wide-open full throttle interstate riding and before the exhaust upgrade, I would only get 50's mpg so that's a huge improvement. I'm going to have to check my plug and keep an eye out on the temps to make sure it's not running too lean. I don't think it has huge improvements on power over my gutted stock exhaust, but it does seem to hold higher speeds for longer. I was running down the interstate holding 78-80 mph (speedometer) at times, that's pretty darn good in my opinion. And it sounds awesome

Next morning spark plug check, nice light gray ash color, the plug on the right is a brand-new plug for contrast

That's awesome herbie! Sounds like quite the day you had on the KPR!
The longest single ride I've done to date is just a touch over 40 miles. |
