Ummm...... change that. Soon. Says alot...... While you are already in the area, splurge for grips too.

As an exMxer, I assume you have a reason behind that?

Why does it need to be changed? Works completely fine and isn’t noticeable at all riding.

But I assume you have a good reason from years of racing experience?

Next time you drop it it will probably break... My guess is that is his reasoning. Part of the thing about bending it back is the propane helps to anneal the aluminium, alleviating the work hardening that occurred when you dropped and bent it the last time. Aluminum doesn't like to be bent more than once, unless heating is involved.

First off, I hope I didn’t offend! Was just busting your chops:lmao:…..
But yes, there is a reason. When a cast lever bends, it loses most of its strength, so that alone is reason enough to toss it. I’ve had bent levers snap when I needed a sudden “handful “ of front brake at a moments notice (thanks Honda), so if that cheap part is attached to something that is crucial to your safety, and is already damaged, toss it without question. As for the grips? Torn, damaged grips look like shit, period. You paid hard earned money for a ride, keep her looking like a queen. Grips (as well as levers) are super cheap, and every tool box should have a set of spares on hand. For the price of a generic 6 pack of beer, your hands can feel like a million bucks while you ride. Plus, your scoot looks great……. Win win. Toss on some safety wire for good measure, you’re golden. Ride safe!

Cool! As you can see by my name, bikes are not my main thing. It’s a little bit of side fun for me. I’m a boat guy. Ha ha.

So it’s fun to learn all of the little tips and tricks and whatever from you guys.

I think I’ll just replace this one. They are so cheap. Why not?

I did know a bit about the aluminum from boats. I get what you’re saying about that.

So how do you do the new grips anyway? Are these things glued on? I’m not even sure it’s holding them there.

Yes, I've seen that site. But there are many more affordable ones on Amazon, and many shorter aftermarket options, but it isn't clear which ones will fit the X-Pect.

Does anyone know what mainline bike uses the same size? Surely some of the ones for the name brand bikes would fit the Lifan, but I've never seen anyone confirm which ones.

Curious I took a look and compared the Xpect levers to the HAWK and they are very different. The Xpect being smaller and slimmer so you would need good measurements or trial by buy and test. I have bought short levers and got them to go right in the factory HAWK mounts. The same levers would not fit on the Xpect. A good solution would be to just buy the whole lever and mount and replace it as a unit, which on the right would include the master cylinder. They can be had for $26 to $28 so not that much more.

still works. no worries!

I happen to have the clutch lever off on the X Pect, it measures 5.60 mm thickness where it slides into the mount with a 6mm through bolt for any one that wants to search. Good news is the right brake side lever measures 11.71mm so Levers that fit the HAWK may work on that side. The Hawk lever measures 11.68 mm. I figured they would be the same but not. Somehow I happened to have a broken lever laying around. LOL

Putting on new grips is pretty straight forward. However, there are many ways to tackle the project, as everyone seems to have their own little trick in doing this. What works for me is after I have removed the old grips, clean the bars with some contact cleaner very well. Next, use some quality grip glue (Renthal, Protaper, etc....), and apply a liberal amount inside the new grip, plus put some onto the bar itself. Slide the new grip onto the bar, and position it to your preference. Kinda hurry this process as the glue tends to start setting up rather quickly, then let it cure. Afterwards, I apply a couple wraps of safety wire around both grips for good measure. Youtube has vids of guys showing this procedure, really easy to do. Aside from grips, you'll be amazed at all the places guys put safety wire on a offroad bike. Have fun!
