 GRINDER ???

chinariderinthesky 08-05-2008 12:51 AM

trust him, YOU WILL NEED A GRINDER! these bikes are not for the mechanically DEclined. you gotta know how to WORK on your bike. it doesnt hurt to own a CHEAP welder too, i have already welded on the booger a couple times. remember that this is a CHINESE bike. and the biggest thing i have learned is, you get what you pay for.

Well... picked it up Friday night & unwrapped it. To my suprise, very little shipping damage. Mirrors missing and the rear fender was bent in such a way that the paint fell off and there's a permament crease across it... oh well...
The good news? is that it looks pretty solid. Took all the plastic off & removed the fuel tank. It did come with a skidplate and it has a box frame instead of the tube frame that's in the picture forchetto posted. Looking forward to spending some quality time with this brute in a few weeks when I get off this nightshift. Will keep ya'll posted! :D

Don't worry about the fender...Chances are it would have broken pretty quick anyway. Consider yourself ahead of the curve! :D

I spent at least 3 rainy days trying to fix my fender. Till I got fed up and mounted the rear lights onto some bent metal I picked up at Home Depot. :D

Hey!

I realize this is a bit of an annoying question to ask, but you COULD do some of us a favour.....

Measure the distance between the engine mounts. This way we can compare the "250" engine to a 200 engine and see if they are a direct bolt-in.....?

partsdude 08-05-2008 09:56 PM

I'm not convinced it's a 250. Engine not marked anywhere. I do have an engine serial # and manufacturer @ home. I'll chek it out and post tomorrow. Where do you want measured Kawazachy? Front to back?

Hey sorry I missed this one... I've only registered Lifan bikes, but it shouldn't be a problem if you got a N.V.I.S. card with the bike, I don't know that it's necessary, but if you go have the bike provincially inspected that could help, take those inspection papers, bill of sale, and the nvis card to icbc and you SHOULD be ok... Just not sure they may need to add the bike make or something, Lifan is in the computer...

Good looking bike looks a lot like my gy6...

Kawazacky 08-06-2008 03:14 PM

I think it'd be cool to number the engine mounts and then measure the distance between them, around the engine.

Here's why I want to know. I suspect from little pieces of information I've caught from around the web, that the air-cooled "250" engine is actually a 229cc overbored 200. I'm not 100% sure, but if the bolt holes match up, it'd make it look more likely.....

partsdude 08-06-2008 11:46 PM

I'll see what I can do for ya Kawazacky. If I can get the 'ol digital camera
working, i'll take some shots and measurements and post them.

warrior91 08-07-2008 12:20 AM

Gooday eh!
Kawaz...I totally believe that oversize jug on smallerbtm end idea...Honda did it for years as 2 diff. btms made 6 different motors in the early 80's.

Kawazacky 08-07-2008 01:06 PM

I think you could potentially build a 229cc counterbalanced "super engine" by putting a Zongshen top end on a Lifan bottom end. Add in an oversize carb, gut your exhaust, and you might actually have some power out of your bike....

Well, maybe....

I'm pulling out the popcorn. :D

FOUND a bike 4 sale that actually looks like mine did before I took it apart and started painting...

Same ugly red & white color scheme... (sorry, not a RED guy) Even has the 2 tone grey/black seat. No way he's got insurance on it, if it has the same tires on it that mine came with, they arn't even marked D O T, definately not streetable.
KAWAZACKY, i've not forgotton about getting those measurements, I'm just plain outta time these days workin' till midnight and all... :x Next week, i'm gonna haul the bike here to work and get serious about it, too many distractions around the house to have any quality time with my GY

BCJC 09-04-2008 01:20 PM

any updates on the bike? i'm in the market for a similar one, and am interesteted in your experience. any pics of the paint job? love to see some!

partsdude 09-04-2008 02:32 PM

 Haven't done a damn thing to it. The tank is here @ work all painted up, the plastics are in the trunk of my car waiting to be painted (if & when I find some time) and the rest of the bike is sitting on it's jack @ home waiting to be shown some love  I'm still trying to free up some time and space to rip @ it here @ work, just tooooooo many other things going on to even think about the 'lil thumper right now
