Most of the time the bearing will have an ID number on both races and can be cross referenced. If there's no number it's not hard to match ID, OD and width. Just don't get a sealed bearing as it will need oil flowing through it to carry the heat away.

I agree! I have done that many times with bearings that don't even have any markings on them. They should be able to measure what you have and get you another one. When you install it, just make sure that you don't pound it in the wrong way. If the store is worth anything, they should be able to tell you the right way to do it. If not, let us know and I'm sure someone here can tell you.

I wouldn't just ride it until it explodes, that makes it a much more expensive fix. If you just fix the bearing you would only be into it a max of $30.

Just a thought... :D

THaNKS GUYS! i am going to call the gentelman about that motor. and its not that i didn't know how to put the filter in, the filter fell out without me seeing it last time i did an oil change and i never knew there was supposed to be anything there untill i drained my oil from the container and found the parts at the bottom of the catch. man, i know you guys are right. but its expensive driving my truck to work and back every day. i dont know anyone to carpool with so, my options are limited. i will just get a new motor. this one has been giving me a hard time since i got the bike. if it isnt one thing, its another. and as far as replacing the bearing, i could do that but alot of people around here see chinabikes as taboo and wont help out when they find out what its for. i can explore that option and rebuild this one for a spare... okay well i am going to get busy with the bike. i will let you all know how it works out.

if that guy does not have any deals going this guy is a good dealer yes there is a good price too. but I am pretty sure that is the counter balanced engine and it is worth every penny.

Buy yerself the magnetic drain plug from the parts list. That strainer isn't so great in the first place.

As for the bearing, don't tell 'em what it's for, they can't use that info anyway, just bring the bearing to 'em and say 'i need one like this'.

Personally, I find less talk is always better when dealings with possibly hostile parts guys. Grunting usually works better.
Example:
Me: (Cave-mechanic) (Holds bearing out at arms length, towards parts guy) "Uhhhnnn!"

Parts Guy: "What is it for, sir?"

Me: "Uhhhhhngha!" (Poking bearing now lying on the counter)

Parts Guy: "Do you know what year it is?"

Me: "Uh-uh. (pause, point) Unnnt!"

--Usually they just go to the book and get creative, saving me a bunch of time explaining that it's a 1991 VW Jetta, with a 2001 VW Beetle TDi engine in it, with a SAAB intercooler, etc. I figure, I should use my stupid to my advantage, 'Cause hey-- Sometimes Stupid works!

The biggest, multi-make carrying dealer closest to me wont even look up a part unless you tell them what year-make-model, they just sit on their little stool and stare at you.(Its kind of funny in a way but totally useless)

The smaller aftermarket shops are a bit better to deal with.

I think dropping another engine in it will be the quickest solution but very pricey.

No!!! you are no longer allowed to play stupid! when you fuse three totally different cars togather into some sick german jalopy nightymare you can't play stupid. It is inmoral and inappropiate!

As for the thread, sorry to get it all off track but yes, definatly go to the industrial parts guru first. then try to get yourself an engine.

chinariderinthesky 08-05-2008 11:01 PM

let the beating begin!!!! i was looking VERY closely at the motor as i was putting things back together and DOH! look at the CAM GEAR STUPID! its missing TEETH. i took a pic with my cell phone since i should be wearing a helmet everywhere i go. HOW THE HELL COULD I MISS THAT?!?!?! the bearing is still pretty messed up but i KNEW that couldnt have been the source! but , i never tore into the motor before yesterday.if you look VERY closely, there are "thread" marks where the teeth are missing. i do believe a small bolt came loose somewhere and locked it up.man, i feel really stupid. but the caveman in the industrial parts store line made my day better. now, how do i get a new cam gear, install it, and put the motor back in my bike in less than 24 hours.... (trip to california and i leave midnight tomorrow.) and i still cant figure out how to post pics..

alonzo 08-06-2008 10:46 AM

good luck with getting a cam gear at any speed. I can't even get a jap mastercylinder rebuild kit any sooner than a week.

then again a gear is a gear right?!?!?!?
might once again try a industrial parts store to get a gear. if that dosent work, try to cross the parts at the honda shop. "look for the oldest crusty guy behind the counter" he usually can eyeball parts for a good match.
