Spud, after you drill the required holes, perhaps you could make a paper template. You could then scan the template and make it available to CR members.

Weldandgrind you are entirely too clever ;)
I very much like this idea.

Pretty Please, Spud, could you help a lady out and provide a template for use after you drill your plate? ;)

I could reverse this also I suppose and trace the RX3 rack and holes and use that to figure out where the holes on the JCW plate need to be :)

Indeed, you already have the perfect template at your disposal. ;) That is the exact method I plan to employ. :)

Thanks for reminding me; I am going to install my J.C. Whitney (JCW) mounting plate today. :) If you drill the JCW mounting plate to match the mounting holes for the stock trunk, you can use the same bolts, and quickly remove the JCW mounting plate, and switch to the stock trunk whenever you like.

This is exactly what I did....the foam pad that goes under the JC Whitney trunk mount, had holes almost exactly where the 2 front holes need to be drilled....I should have taken pics.....

If you could share that with Mrs. Weldangrind, I would be most grateful.

:hehe:

That does sound like the best plan to me. When you perform the procedure, perhaps you'd care to take pics to share with the group.

Today I removed the stock trunk from my Zongshen RX3, and installed a large, Garage Pro Travel Trunk I had purchased from J.C. Whitney.

Using a 20% off coupon, and free shipping, you can purchase this travel trunk for less than $40, delivered. :) This travel trunk locks to the luggage rack on a steel mounting plate. Therefore, you can remove the trunk from the bike and take it into your motel room, tent, et cetera, at the end of the day. You can also remove the trunk if you wish to lighten the bike for daily rides. :)

You can read my installation thread for this travel trunk at the following link. ;)
