How much have you spent on farkles?

One of the things I love about the RX3 is how much you can customize and personalize the bike. With CSC's help, I've taken the standard RX3 and made a 60/40 on/offroad touring machine.

On the other hand, I just added up my farkles and realized I've spent approximately $1700 on accessories :wtf:
  • 19" front wheel
  • Shinko 804/805 tires
  • Aluminum skid plate
  • Seat Concepts tall seat
  • 13T/45T sprockets
  • Progressive shock
  • Yoo's windshield
  • LED headlight conversion
  • Accessory charging ports
  • SW-Motech tank ring tankbag
  • Shorai Lithium-iron battery with battery tender cables

And I'm not done yet ... there's a lot more I want to add to my bike:
  • LED spotlights
  • Heated handgrips
  • Grip guards
  • Handlebar risers
  • Alloy wheels
  • GPS mount (and GPS)
  • ... etc, etc, etc

What have you added to your RX3? And how did that meet your goals to make the bike your own?

rickosuave1987 04-01-2016 02:09 PM

I've only really added a couple things to mine...

- Double Take mirrors
- Ram Mount X-Grip
- LED Lights from Amazon

For a total of around $150... I'm really enjoying the bike as-is :D

SpudRider 04-01-2016 02:20 PM

I have added the following items.

Tusk D-Flex Hand Guards
Tusk Handlebar Risers
Oxford Premium Heated Grips
Warp9 Rim, size 2.50-17, for the rear wheel
Tractor Supply auxiliary Flood Lights
Auxiliary Spot Lights from SuperBrightLEDs
CSC Center Stand
Progressive Shock Absorber
Neutron Sintered Brake Pads

Detours,

I wish you hadn't started this thread.... :)

Lowering link
Center stand
Hand guards
Narrow seat
Progressive shock
GPS mount
USB/lighter ports
Light mounts
LED driving lights
Battery pigtails
Heated hand grips
Handlebar risers
19" front wheel
Tank bag/mount
Kickstand foot

I have refrained from totaling the cost.....my economical motorcycle may turn out to be one of my most expensive ones... :hmm:

Admitting I have a problem is the first step in getting help for my problem.

Tourfella racks, Panners, and Trunk X2
Seat Concepts Narrow Seats X2
Hand Guards X2
Power Ports X2
LED Lights X2
Wolfman Tank Bags X2
One Liter Fuel Bottle and Holder X2
Front Balistic Fabric Panners X2
DoubleTake Mirrors X2
Under Seat USB Charge Port Direct to Battery X2
Explorer Dry Bag X2
SpeedoDRD X2
Aluminum Skid Plate X2
POD-X4 Jump Starter
Zumo 660 GPS and Mount
Lowering Link
Center Stand

Not going to figure up the cost of it all but i'm sure it would come close to the cost of two 250TT dualsport bikes and not even close to finished.

Sigh, you know posting the farkles (and especially the associated pricing) is a bad idea in case the spouse/significant other stumbles on this thread, right? :-P

Not too many farkles here, but they are (in no particular order):

1. Reflective black wheel striping
2. Reflective tape on panniers and top case
3. Power port
4. Sintered brake pads
5. Big brake rotor kit (after installing sintered brake pads)
6. LED auxiliary lights
7. LED headlight
8. Handlebar risers
9. Windshield from Winyoochanok
10. Akrapovic mid pipe and muffler
11. 42T rear sprocket
12. Iridium spark plug
13. GPS mount
14. Center Stand (2nd Generation)

It doesn't matter how much you spend on upgrades, as long as you make it YOURS!

I wish I could change the title. I realized asking price was a bad question after I posted it, but I can't change it now. Just seeing everybody's list is much more interesting.

Detours... love ya man. :lmao: great post. First thing I found after purchase was, " how can I make this thing better". Like tiger said, :hehe:. Just spent 60 bucks today on led's and floods.

Det, you have just about equaled the cost of a fully equipped Jap/german base adv bike. (That one way to look at it).

Come on everyone, confess...:D

Of course I don't qualify in the rx3 class, but it' still true for all species.

Eco Mouse 04-01-2016 09:46 PM

I kinda thought that was the point of the RX3... spend as little as you can on the bike, and go bananas on the farkles!

tinman tim 04-01-2016 10:33 PM

That's my plan

rjmorel 04-01-2016 10:56 PM

Around $1230 give or take in farcles.

larger trunk
Kickstand foot homemade

I agree. ;)

One of the reasons I bought the RX3 was the extensive list of standard equipment. The RX3 represents an excellent value. If one wishes to further enhance any motorcycle, it is going to cost money. ;) However, the low purchase price and long list of standard equipment makes it much more economical to farkle the RX3.

I don't know. I still feel like I'm ahead. My Vstrom 650 isn't nearly as well equipped and it cost double my RX3 (plus farkles), and would cost quite a bit more to add luggage, skid plate and bars. And the RX3 is still more fun in canyons and country roads.

Like Ecomouse said, I saved on the bike so I could spend the money to make it mine.

I agree completely. :) I posted the exact sentiments a mere two minutes before you, while you were composing your reply. ;)

BlackBike 04-01-2016 11:13 PM

Yeah, but I beat you both at 7.27pm by basically saying the same with , Det, you have just about equaled the cost of a fully equipped Jap/german base adv bike. (That one way to look at it).

:p

Yep, with your suggestions on those "farkles", those parts are on there way.

Eco Mouse 04-02-2016 01:48 AM

Fortunately, my farkle list does have an end. There might be some new fangled thing down the line I'll think I need... but ultimately, I'm setting the RX3 up for my girlfriend exactly as if were going to be mine. Then, I'm going to start all over again with a CB500X +Rally Raid 3 set-up for myself!

Right now, I've got:
19" Front Wheel
13T/45T Sprocket Combo
WPS Lithium Battery
Smoke Windshield
Super Wide Center Stand
Big Foot Kickstand
ProTaper Hi Rise Bars
Cycra Pro-Bend Barkbusters
Oxford Heated Grips
Emgo Rectangle Mirrors
30w LED Driving Lights
12v Socket / USB Plug

Items that will be here shortly:
Tall Seat Concepts Seat
Progressive Rear Shock
Oversize Brake Rotor
Adjustable Levers
Skid Plate (maybe)
Black 36L Aluminum Panniers (not CSC/Tourfella brand)

Items that I've not found I can get yet, but would like:
2016 Light Housing
2016 Adjustable Forks

After that, it's really just MEFO tires and maybe a new set of Excel Rims laced up by Woody's. Then it's my turn! :)

DanKearney 04-02-2016 09:52 AM

Remember, regardless of how much you spend on the farkles, you'd be spending at least the same amount (And much more if your farkles were premium brand OEM farkles) for them no matter what make/model of bike you were putting them on.

What you should do is compare the cost of your RX3 and farkles to a similarly equipped name brand bike and farkles. Then you can sit back and feel smug about how little you've spent in comparison. :)

Cheers,

Dan K.

sqwert 03-08-2019 08:21 PM

Seems I've spent enough on farkles to buy another RX3. Price goes up when the bike does a face plant on concrete at 65mph. Had to buy a whole Tourfella set just to get one pannier.

I got a pair of side cases
They can be bought 1 by 1 just shipping is troublesome

2LZ 03-09-2019 11:26 AM

I just had to buy two more aftermarket trunks for ours. It seems when frozen solid and the snow load collapses the storage unit, they don't take too kindly to having a metal tent frame land on them. Fortunately, at 30-something each, it wasn't a big deal.

Miniminimike 03-14-2019 10:34 PM

Started used

Fortunately I started by buying a used 2015 RX3. Lower initial cost and the fact it came with couple of upgrades helped.
Came with:
19” front wheel
Heated Grips
Large block knobby tires

Then I bought:
Auxiliary LED lights
2nd set of keys
USB power port
12” iphone lightning cable
Ram Phone mount
13 tooth sprocket
X ring chain (gold bling)
Hand guards
Made custom Moab adventure decals
Seat concepts tall seat
Skid plate
Extra set of inner tubes
New helmet
Gloves to match bike. (Orange!)

I think I’m done for now. I’m loving it! Moab next week with some other Utah dual sport riders. Then Moab again in May with the CSC group.
