New project (or...What did I get myself into)
My wife and I have been absolutely adoring the new bikes from CCW, but with a military salary those things will have to wait. One of the best things about working in the navy, however, is the wide variety of people you can meet. Yesterday, one of the guys who works down the hall came over to me and flat out gave me a 2007 Hensim HS250DB. He said he loved riding it and has had so much fun...right up till that part where he melted the top of the piston. Good news is that it's now all mine. Bad news is that it's missing many parts. Engine, battery, instruments, seat...so many nuts and bolts. Is there anybody that deals these things anymore? Is there even an illustrated parts breakdown or at least a parts catalog? I have a horrible feeling that this is just going to get parted out on eBay and will end up costing me some big money. I would love to see this thing rolling down the street this summer. Can anybody please point me in the right direction?

That's a challenge. But be creative. Use your imagination. You are at zero dollars in the project. Get to salvage diving for similar bikes.

Does it have a title? If so the most expensive part will be the engine. The most difficult thing will be the seat. The rest is easy.

You seem to have a decent rolling chassis to start. You can build these bikes for peanuts with a little effort. Do you have (or can you get) the original motor? Rebuild parts are as cheap as chips. |

@weldangrind-I do not have access to the original engine. The guy made a "junk run", with all the original parts he removed, the day before he remembered I was craving a bike. I would love to source the original OHC 250 that went in it, but i can't get any Hensim specific info with my searches. As you said, I have found the crank and pistons and big bore kits ad nauseum. So plentiful are they, I wouldn't be totally opposed to snagging a burnt up 250 and doing the rebuild myself. A side note, do any of you have any experience with these in high altitude? I'd love to make my way through some of these mountains with this thing. |
I'm sorry guys...I have no idea why I find this so funny. I just realized the part number for the Lifan 200 is 167 "FML". I'm having trouble breathing!

You can certainly buy an OHC engine, but a pushrod engine will also fall into place. In either case, I might even have the front motor mount laying around. You might be able to find a cheap China bike on CL that you can harvest the engine from. Between the two bikes, hopefully you'll have everything you need.

It seems to me that another forum member (and he might have even been from Bremerton) had a motor with a wasted piston. Perhaps we can find him with a bit of searching.

Yup! My vision is something in army green with ammo cans for saddle bags. I'd like to commute on the regular and occasionally head out to the trails and under-developed roads.

Ok, then you'd need to shoot for a stator that will support a battery and lights. You could use an old Honda XR200 motor, but you'd need an XL185 / XL200 stator.
I think it would be more fun to push a China motor to the limits, but I'm odd like that. I like the metal ammo can idea, but they're heavy. Instead, I bought plastic ammo cans for cheap from Cabelas (and two Cabelas locations aren't far from you). |
I never thought of using plastic. I guess anything water tight would work. As for the engine, I'd really prefer to keep it the Lifan family. The CCW bikes are based on the Lifan engine (from what I've read), so any experience i can garner from this would only be more helpful down the road. I'll keep the electrical system in the front of my mind, also, since I would like to have a 12v outlet for a GPS...eventually. First things first, I need to find a 163FML to get this thing a heart. Craigslist, ho!

It is a win, but a used China motor could be a lot more economical. I bought a China dirt bike with a 223cc pushrod motor, and sold the rest of the parts for almost what I paid for the whole bike. The engine is currently in Son of Weldangrind's XR200R.

I am going to follow your project like a religion, sir! That is right up my alley. I'll look into Taobao more. I just need some time to figure out the jargon. Going back and forth with the translations is turning up a lot of "no results". But I'll keep on keepin on.

It sounds like you need a head pipe, and the old Honda XR200 would be a close enough match to your bike. See if you can find one for cheap on eBay. Once you have that (and an engine), the muffler can be planned out. I have a China muffler that would probably work.
The passenger peg mount is a mystery; please show us pics of both sides. I'm with you on removing the airbox. It's best to keep it to stop water from getting into the carb, but if the boot that connects the airbox to the carb shrinks, it's done. You can always fab a shield for an open element filter. Please show us a pic of the brake pedal assmembly, perhaps with a simple bolt holding it together for photographic illustration. Post in the Wanted section of the Free Classifieds, and see if anyone has a seat. As long as you have the correct plastic base, it can be recovered for cheap. |

This is where the brake pedal goes. The hole immediately above and to the left of the foot peg is the spot where it would attach and pivot.
Attachment 968 These are the right and left sides of the rear section. I looked all over for some kind of symmetrical fastening point, either mount holes or broken welds, but I see nothing. I'm assuming that I'll just have to weld in some sort of triangle shaped rod to mount some universal pegs or something. Attachment 969 Attachment 970 |
I just relized my cool sports co200gy has virtualy identical frame and plastics as urs does mines just prob a rebadged version and has drum rear

I like my seat better then my wifes lifan as its wider only thing I don't like is the small hump in middle as I'm 6'5 I'm actualy thinking about either trimming it or re doing foam and make new cover. I have pics of bike in the newbie and new to me thread
