'09 Qlink XP200

Hi Everyone,

I stumbled on this site a while back while I was looking for reviews and information on Qlink dual sports. Needless to say, I ended up purchasing one new for $1590 after reading all the praise on this board.

I've only put around 170 km on the bike so far but it runs better than I anticipated. I am eager to see how this bike holds up to some desert trails and light road use.

What is everyone's opinion on the proper way to break in this engine, it seems like I hear varying advice from every person/source I encounter.

Welcome, looks like you got yourself a very nice bike :)

Weldangrind 12-15-2010 01:12 AM

Welcome!

I'll defer to the DS guys on your break-in question. Nice bike. 8)

FastDoc 12-15-2010 11:26 AM

Welcome. Your bike looks great.

Mine is up to almost 4,000 trouble free miles, almost all off road.

Your speedo cable will break soon. replace it with one for a Suzuki DR200SE. Other than that the bike will be as trouble free as the DR. They are built on the same assembly line in China.

The QLink break in procedeure is ridiculously conservative.

I say vary the speed and load and RPM a lot for the first 500 miles, don't let it get hot, don't use full throttle and then change the oil, check the valves, and go have fun.

BTW I think that trail riding is a good way to automatically break it in as these conditions come naturally there.

Barnone 12-15-2010 11:30 AM

Phoenix.
Welcome to the site.
Good looking bike in the right color.
I have the motard version of your bike (XF200).

As Fastdoc said, the owner's manual specifies a very slow and long one which is hard to follow. I am a believer of the easy break in but others believe in the hard break in. Whatever. :D

2LZ 12-15-2010 03:37 PM

Wow! Awesome deal on it also!
The cheapest I found was my guy at 1750.00.....which is still a great price compared to list.

SpudRider 12-15-2010 07:09 PM

Welcome to these forums; we are glad you joined us! :) You got a good deal on a great little motorcycle! You also chose the fastest color. ;)

I agree with FastDoc. Vary the engine rpms, and don't rev the engine too high for the first 500 miles or so. Change the engine oil, then ride it like you stole it! :D Trail riding is a great way to break in the engine, just as long as you don't rev the engine too high for first 500 miles. ;)

Spud :)

culcune 12-15-2010 11:22 PM

Phoenix, if you ever decide to go for a 'long' ride to Yuma, let me know; I'm stuck here and have nothing better to do, LOL

Phoenixrider 12-18-2010 09:08 PM

Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated with any mods I do.

lego1970 12-19-2010 12:43 AM

Very nice bike. I came soooooo close to buying one. I couldn't make up my mind between the XP or XF, but ended up with something different. That price is great. The one I almost bought was almost twice the price.

Phoenixrider 12-20-2010 12:23 AM

Im glad I bought the XP, I think the XF seat height would have been too low for me. Not to mention I am surrounded by endless desert to explore.

Barnone 12-20-2010 03:41 PM

Turns out that the XF and XP seat heights are about the same as JTC found out here
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...lowering-issue

Phoenixrider 12-20-2010 07:32 PM

I stand corrected, I always had the impression they were different

2LZ 12-21-2010 12:03 AM

I think it must be an optical illusion.... 8O
I just stopped by my China Bike Guy and he got in 2 more XF's.....and next to the XP, they looked smaller with the littler rims!
Weird.....

I would like to se an XP with the black motor and other parts though. I bet that would look sharp.

I'm not surprised the XF200 doesn't have a 31-inch seat height; I didn't know QLink advertised it as such. The XF200 and XP200 have different wheels; however, I was under the impression the two bikes shared the same frame, forks, and shock absorber. If only the wheels are different between the two suspensions, it seems logical the XF200 must be shorter than the XP200. ;)

Spud :)

FastDoc 12-21-2010 12:28 AM

I've owned both, at different times and as I recall the XF was significantly shorter.

Indeed, if only the wheels on these two bikes are different, the seat height of the XF200 should be approximately 2.5 inches shorter than the seat height of the XP200. ;) If the XP200 has an actual seat height of 35.7 inches, the XF200 should have a seat height of approximately 33.2 inches. However, 33.2 inches is still 2.2 inches taller than the 31.0 inches specified on the QLink website. ;)

Spud :)

Barnone 12-22-2010 11:03 AM

Just measured the seat height on my 2009 Qlink XF200 (stood up) and it is just shy of 35" at the lowest point.
Edit: I not sure where the manufacturers measure the seat height so I might be too low in my measurement. Where you butt goes in more like 36" +.

I can measure my XP when I get home.

Barnone 12-23-2010 09:30 AM

FastDoc,
Still not home???

FastDoc 12-23-2010 12:45 PM

After work yesterday I went to the Kawasaki dealer to check out KLR's, KLX's and the Suzuki DRZ. Did not get home till late. My buddy got a KLR. $5,200 OTD :D

I was told there will be a $500 rebate on the 2010 KLX after Jan or Feb 2011 and to wait if I wanted one. Then the salesguy said I could get a 2010 KLX $4,500 OTD. 8)

So, do you still have this bike and do you still like it? I'm thinking of buying a brand new one for $1599 Would that be a good price?

If thats directed towards me, I still have it. So far so good with the bike, I've put about 600 kms on it and it seems to ride better each time I start it up. I cannot account for the long term reliability but I imagine its relative to how well the bike is maintained and how hard it is ridden.

Welcome to these forums; we are glad you joined us! :) If you can get a QLink XF200 for $1,599, delivered, it's a good deal on a good bike. ;)

Spud :)

pitbullfan 01-17-2011 09:45 PM

Yup, phoenix I was hoping you would answer. Thanks for the fast reply.

Spud, thanks for the welcome. I was trying to talk myself out of this bike thinking it would be junk and I'd be better off with a used honda, yamaha,, etc.

But from reading through this site briefly some of these chinese bikes are actually pretty well made, and now I'm really thinking of getting this bike. I LOVE dual sport machines and this seems to be the best deal.

Phoenixrider 01-17-2011 09:58 PM

I found this a helpful article when I was considering a Qlink:

http://www.motorcycle.com/manufactur...iew-88669.html

Its a fair look at the bike. Hope it helps.

FastDoc 01-17-2011 11:07 PM

Over 4,000 off pavement miles on mine and it's a good bike. The Q I had before this is owned by a friend of mine and I bet she's got over 8,000 happy miles on it. The Q is the best deal out there.

Precisely what I was looking for. Thanks guys, once my truck is out of the shop I'll be heading to get a Q :)

Thank you so much for the service manual.

Nice looking bike!

Bill

Weldangrind 01-21-2011 10:54 AM

Beautiful machine! Thanks for the tour.

I appreciate all of the details in the graphics. I've never seen lever covers like that; where'd you find them? Is that skid plate stock?

FastDoc 01-21-2011 11:59 AM

That is the stock skid plate. Q uses a pretty beefy aluminum skid plate

JTCAndrew 01-21-2011 11:28 PM

My NEW Qlink XF200

Thanks All - The lever covers were purchased from http://www.denniskirk.com or http://www.jpcycle.com not sure which once can't remember. The Skid plate is pure stock - Came that way. The Picture actually accents it more I think thats why it stands out so much. I am looking forward to getting some road time, as soon as all this snow melts up here in PA, But looks to be no time soon. Todays high was 9 Degrees. Can anyone Pleeeeeeeese send us some sunshine and warmer weather soon? I wanna Ride! :)

david3921 01-22-2011 11:23 AM

So, as sort of a thank you for getting us the english version of the XF200 manual, I did this ...just in case you are curious.

Thanks David - Thats pretty much how she used to look minus the orange Skid Plate. The Black headlight I have on it now is AFTER MArket. I Did Find a Orange Seat cover with Just a strip of black on the top of it. Wonder what that might look like? LOL

Thanks AGAIN

Andrew :)

I took my Q out for a desert ride this morning. It did surprisingly well on tight single track trails. However, the speedometer cable broke on my way home. I just ordered a new one online for around $25 so its an easy fix. Only problem so far, and still no complaints.

Pics of today's ride:

FastDoc 01-22-2011 10:03 PM

I'd say nearly 100% of Q speedo cables fail  . A Q replacement cable will also fail. I upgraded to one for a Suzuki DR200SE and it was much higher quality and has held up well.

Nice bike you have there! I love my Q also. It looks like you had a nice day for a ride also. :D

MICRider 01-22-2011 10:17 PM

Beautiful scenery! Looks like a great place to ride. Wish we didn't have 2 feet of snow.

Cheers,
Stew
