Lifan x-pect

Anyone have one ? :hi:

oincman 05-06-2020 10:22 PM

Yup, I got one. Love it.

legonas 05-08-2020 06:48 PM

Nobody else has anything to say about the xpect? I'm thinking about picking up my first motorcycle since i was a kid and am interested in the xpect but its hard to find much info on it. I'm looking to do almost entirely dirt roads and trails, is the lifan xpect the bike for me?

PM Overland Adventure here, although it may take a while to hear back from him, he got his on the road a couple of weeks ago and I haven't seen him post since.

search his threads as well.

Here is mine. Love it so far. Changed oil immediately and adjusted the valves and added a 17t front sprocket. It runs great and I need to let it break in, by my old Hawk I sold was a bit faster.

I don't off road as much as I would like but I love it on the road.

Ina Ditch 05-10-2020 07:29 PM

oincman, that is a really good looking bike, I like that green. I actually had one ordered and could not get it done for some reason so I am on another trail now but at the price of these bikes I may double back before all is said and done.

legonas 05-10-2020 07:32 PM

well i went ahead and ordered one from powersportsmax so i guess ill have to post about it once it shows up. hopefully it ships tomorrow and i get it sometime over the weekend maybe.

Congrats, can't wait to see her.

oincman 05-11-2020 06:31 PM

Got mine from txpowersports. Easy enough transaction, but can't say they were all that friendly.

Waiting for my green rim tape to show up so I can make it look like what I THOUGHT I was getting. Yup, I know...trivial. And hopefully this color matches.

Lifan updated their site to reflect black rims without the body matching color, thanks to you! :lmao:

oincman 05-11-2020 09:00 PM

Well I got some Chrome Green tape coming, hopefully this color matches. If so, I'll post a link to it for anybody who is interested.

NoirLord 05-12-2020 02:20 PM

Ordered mine from Orion on Friday, hopefully next week I’ll have it! I also ordered a 17t front sprocket, some vinyl wrap and a 3pc saddle/top bag set I will have to modify to fit off of eBay. So excited to get this bike and to set it up!

Got the rim tape installed. It's not perfect, but I couldn't figure out how to use the little dodad it came with so I did it by hand.

Color isn't an exact match, but hey, it's close enough and I'm now a happy man.

culcune 05-12-2020 08:03 PM

Looks sharp! Like I mentioned before, I think you are the last person who can get away with demanding the color-coded tape :lmao: Heck, you are probably the FIRST and only person to demand it!!

bike came in. still haven't got MCO paperwork. put it together. idle seemed high and the throttle was crazy sensitive. threw it in first and dropped the bike after 5 feet. fun times. broke the light switch part, anyone know where i can get one? also bent the shifter but i bent that back and seems fine. turns out the idle wasnt high, the throttle cable was messed up and was just always on. adjusted that and everything is great but i still have a broke light switch assembly i need to fix.

Must be in the air today, I had the recon on top of me this afternoon, ya gotta love it.

It doesn't seem like there are alot of Lifan owners on here but how are you guys liking your bikes? This is one of the bikes I'm considering for purchase.

NoirLord 05-19-2020 12:46 PM

Just got the call from the shipping company and mine will be delivered tomorrow between 10-3..truck will have a lift gate! Looking forward to throwing my 2 cents in on the Xpect!

I'd love to hear your input man. This is one of the bikes I'm considering.

Ok spent some more time with the bike today and decided to write a little review because there is so little info out there every little bit can help and my post yesterday was mostly just me rambling.

First lets start with powersportsmax, the company i ordered from. I placed my order on the 9th and received it in South Carolina on the 18th, the day they said i would so everything went great there. Unfortunately, the "free expedited MCO paperwork" didn't seem to get my paperwork to me before or the same time as the bike as promised and it still isn't here a day after the bike arrived. I emailed them this morning and was told i need to use the MSO title request link on there website to request it. It specifically says on their website expedited shipping should not require you to use that form. So other then probably not being able to get it on the road for memorial day weekend everything has gone great so far, as long as the paperwork shows up.

Next, unboxing the bike. Everything went smoothly for the most part. I snapped a bolt putting the clutch lever on and had to run to lowes to get a replacement. The orange in person looks much brighter then it does in most pictures which i am happy for. Wife took a picture while i was working on it, still in work clothes.

https://www.legonas.net/images/bike1.jpg

I haven't rode a motorcycle since i was a kid so my experience level is basically 0. Saying that now to explain the next part. Added some gas and she cranked right up but as i mentioned the idle seemed high and the throttle seemed very sensitive. With no experience to tell me better i tried it out anyway and promptly dropped the bike in the front lawn. Turns out its hard to control a bike when the throttle is stuck over 3k rpm. broke the light switch and horn assembly, moved the clutch lever and bent the shifter. So if you're bikes idle is over 3k make sure to adjust the throttle until you have some slack. took me 20 minutes on google to figure out what was wrong.

I got everything i broke fixed up today. Super glued the light assembly back together, had already bent the shifter back into place. throttle adjusted and has a little slack now, and was driving around in my back yard going in circles for a good half hour once i got the hang of the clutch and stopped stalling it.

Since my experience level is so low its hard for me to really say to much about the bike so far and plan to post more about it after this weekend, which i plan to spend out on some dirt trails with two friends who also just bought there own first bikes(a klx250 and a CRF250L rally), and hopefully do a bit more then driving around in circles in first gear.

Megadan 05-20-2020 12:11 AM

Don't knock riding around in circles in first gear. A majority of bike layovers happen at low speeds because most people have zero concept of shifting their weight, throttle control, and fine motor skills. Any monkey can ride a bike at speed. Keep practicing that slow speed stuff, it always comes in handy.

Congrats on the bike! It looks great in orange. I must say, the beauty of these Chinese dual-sports is you have far less guilt dropping them than a name-brand bike like the KLX or CRF Rally. Granted, the X-Pect is moving into name-brand territory, but you get the point

NoirLord 05-20-2020 01:10 PM

Just took delivery of my bike, box is in perfect shape and on a long wooden pallet,I had to rush back to work so I was unable cut the box open and inspect,I only expect to have minor birthmarks at the worse. I’ll be opening it tonight those!

That Xpect is one of the best looking DS china bikes out to me.
I am still riding in circles and figure 8's myself. never have been a big dirt biker but rode some when I was younger because my brother always rode dirt and street. I rode street bikes up until 10 or 12 years ago so this dirt bike thing is taking a little learning.
My brothers first " Dirt bike" was an old bridgstone, probably 100cc street bike, he and a friend of ours modded the fenders and exhaust and some other tinkering to keep it running. he never did have anything but the stock tires on it. if I remember right he traded a single barrel h&r 20 gauge for it.

You should not have any issues registering in South Carolina. I live in upstate SC, registered my x-pect last summer. I think that puts the bike in the system, right? I love my x-pect. Mainly bought it b/c it had EFI. Bike has been perfect. As I have said before, changing out the front sprocket to a 17 made a huge difference.

Some of our members over the years have been their particular brand's guinea pigs. The good thing about Lifan is they have been around since the mid 2000s, and are in the US DOT's and states' databases. They had a very popular dual-sport called the GY200-5 which was one of the first EPA/DOT certified 49-state street legal Chinese dual-sports.

simonjester 05-21-2020 10:24 PM

These are EFI right? If so, how is that performing on your bikes? Lots better than a carb?

On their website it says, "fully assembled." Is it? Or what is their definition of fully assembled?

you have to install the handlebar, controls on the handlebar, and battery. thats it. install the controls, tighten down the bars, pull the seat to install the battery, check the oil and add gas and you should be on the road. it took me about 2 hours to go from pulling the cardboard off the shipping crate to dropping the bike in my front yard :lmao: power tools really help taking the crate apart it would have taken forever to do it with just a socket or end wrench.

edit: also thinking about it the front blinker light assembly's also have to be screwed in. the nut and washer is already on the wire just have to tighten it together.

oincman 05-22-2020 09:41 PM

Yup and those turn signals are a bitch to tighten down.

Here is what I just got assembled. And yep, the headlight was a bitch as well.

Feels faster than the X-Pect. The test will be the hill I go up on the way to work. Can't get the X-Pect over 62 (according to the speedo, and it drops quickly on the hill).

The KPM is 6-spd and geared different. Definitely pulls much harder than the X-Pect, but I've only ridden it down the road testing my helmet cam.

More to follow......

legonas 05-23-2020 07:41 PM

just got back from the first trip. did about 80 miles of 80% dirt roads. for those interested, we did the SCAR route in the Francis Marion national forest from the rembert c dennis boat landing to the wambaw cycle trail, and then back.

https://www.legonas.net/images/bike2.jpg

learned a lot on my first trip and gained a lot of confidence in my riding. Still have a lot to learn but i dealt with all sorts of conditions and everything went great.

As for the bike itself, i did not tighten the front turn signals enough because they worked loose on the way back so i have to fix that. I had no mechanical problems beyond that. I certainly understand the desire to change the gearing to get a little bit better top end, 55-60 was pushing the bike hard with me on it.

Next project is an oil change, USB charger and LED headlight. I knew that it probably didn't have a oil filter but looking through the manual i don't even see a strainer. Is there a strainer or anything i need to check when i do the oil?

JoshXpect 05-24-2020 07:33 AM

There is a strainer low on the right side...I think it was the right, (I'll look when I get home from work) of the engine under one of those silvery plastic screw on caps. There's a spring under the cap holding the strainer in, but it's not too hard to get back in.

Ok, so much for decent memory, it's on the left side way down low, pretty much under the engine. https://imgur.com/a/8yvtttZ

david3921 05-31-2020 12:26 AM

Be careful with the strainer cap when reinstalling. The flange (typically) is very thin and will crack with too much force.

Jbmoto 10-07-2020 09:21 AM

Got one

This bike is awesome on road not enough power for sandy trails but nobby tires would help better for dirt small fork aren't good for aggressive riders but great road miles im up to 170+ not broken it yet so top speed attempt was 60 mph

I just got mine about a week ago. Changed the oil, new spark plug, adjusted brakes, adjusted the valves (make sure you do this!), adjusted chain and a few more things. I set the valves to 03/05. Runs and drives great.
