Best Ever Done HAWK 250 Wheelie?

I unfortunately had to sell my HAWK at the beginning of this year, due to engine problems that i didnt want to fix and was wanting to get a bigger bike anyways.

So anyways, A few months before I had the issues i got a ride in January while it was 50 degrees out (Ohio). I did one of the best wheelies I have ever done and I think its the best I have ever seen on a HAWK 250.

So figured I'd share the video with you guys so you can see the potential of this bike and maybe even convince someone to make the purchase if they're worried about the people who say these bikes have no power.
Check it out!

Mods I had in the video:
Mikuni Carb w/ Re-jetting
17t Front Sprocket
Newer & better chain
Dirt/Knobbie Tires

Done in 2nd Gear:

Great wheelie...now you just need a bunch of other guys riding with you, and a couple cop cars trying to pull you over, and you have a hooligan video :lmao:

Seriously, sad to read your issues following the wheelie leading you to sell it, but unless someone posts a longer wheelie, I am pretty sure you have the longest Hawk wheelie

Azhule 11-22-2018 12:32 PM

Have some long, straight, and mostly deserted roads out here to wheelie down... who wants to lend me their HAWK, I'll provide the camera :p

Nice "throttle control", short/smooth blips to keep you where you need to be  you could have easily went further by the looks of your throttle technique and the length of the road still left :hehe:

You could probably do a balance wheelie in 5th if you could get the front end up with clutch pop or something. It probably won't power up past 3rd.

I wouldn't trust the frame never mind the Chinese transmission and other vitals..

I wheelie my bike constantly

timcosby 11-24-2018 07:40 PM

me too. it will come up in fourth with oem gearing if you know what your doing but its not going to pop up on its own in fourth.

I was expecting to see someone yanking on the bars to get it up for a second ,but was pleasantly surprised .Good job .

I used to ride them pretty far on our little Hensim 150 DB's.
Take special note of the custom safety equipment.

Hey guys, sorry, i had forgotten that i posted this lol. But ya its sucks i had to let her go. But i now have a KTM 400 exc dual sport. AND I LOVE IT. For some reason the HAWK was the easiest bike to wheelie for me. I got really good really fast on that bike. The power my KTM has is insane and lifts you up so fast its hard to find the balance without feeling like its going to lift like a rocket and fly your ass off it :lmao:. Thanks for all the compliments, if I still had my HAWK id still get on it to this day and wheelie it:p.

Also i dont know that it would be possible to get the HAWK up in 3rd. 2nd was pretty hard and third i never could get much lift over and inch or so. You'd have to be pretty damn strong to pick up most of the entire bike to enough of a balance point.

Congrats on the KTM. Wow! From China Bike to KTM. You don't mess around! ;-)

Ditto on the congrats. That's a serious jump in hardware lol.

I have never personally tried to wheelie my Hawk, although I have got the wheel to come up a tiny bit when I try. I just have to shift my big heavy but back in the seat and give it a little tug.

My VFR on the other hand, I have wheelied it entirely on accident in first and second gear. Power on wheelies and launch wheelies tend to open your eyes when you don't expect them.:wtf: When you lift the front of a nearly 600lb bike with just shy of 200hp and 100ft-lbs, it's quite the experience. I should have reminded myself that I had the restrictions removed from first and second (stock is limited to 100hp via electronic throttles).

You should post up some pictures of your KTM.

i can lift the front easly for logs , rocks etc... but I have never been able
to wheelie a dirt bike... The silly dam thing is the only bike I
could wheelie and ride any distance was a road bike...RD400E..

Thanks guys! The story on how I got my KTM is pretty interesting; when my hawk died I had recently bought a little 125cc pit bike to have fun on and figure I didnt need another dirt bike. So I went out looking to buy a sport/street bike. I got a hold of a super clean 2005 Suzuki sv650 with 5,000 miles on it for damn near dirt cheap. And when I say dirt cheap i mean I paid a few hundred dollars more for it than I did the HAWK 250.

So i rode the sv650 for the summer & i came to find out im not much of a "Street Only" rider, and I got bored of the thing pretty quick compared to the fun I had on a cheap dual sport. Plus going 130mph, all the time, isnt really my thing. Dont get me wrong, those sport bikes are a blast and I wish I could afford, and have the space, to have all different kinds of bikes. But when it came down to it I wanted that "Dual Sport Life" back. There's just something about cruising the streets and then just pulling off and ripping it off-road.

So i went out looking to trade the sv650 for a dirt bike i could turn street legal or a dual sport ready for the streets.

I got in touch with this kid who wanted to trade his 2006 KTM 400exc and we made the deal. So really I got the KTM for not much more than the HAWK. Though I did have to put a lot of money into it for things such as a street legal kit, kick stand, tires, oil changes ect. And the plastics are pretty beat up (from the prev owner) so after the holidays I plan to get new plastics and the thing should be looking brand new and ill post some picture of it then.

For now:

You had the ugly SV650. I would have ditched it too lol. They are good bikes though, and not hard to get for cheap like you did. Probably one of the best affordable starter bikes out there.

Personally, I like having a powerful dedicated street bike. That is why I have my VFR1200. It gets to 130 about as fast as that SV650 gets to 80, and it's dead stable at that speed. It's a different kind of riding, but it is still very fun ( at least to me). I do understand the fun of a dual sport though, which is why I got my Hawk. It's less serious, more fun, and more versatile.

That KTM is nice though, and I would say you picked it up for a steal. Even the plastics don't look too bad from a distance, so I can only assume that they are broken in a few spots. You could try a little plastic welding on those to keep it affordable for now before springing for new ones.

I didnt think it was too bad looking of a bike. You could buy a full fairing kit for it but I didnt really mind. And ya like i said if i had the room and the money Id have me a couple super sports to take out every once and awhile. They ride real smooth and balanced like no other, plus there's nothing like having that power at your finger tips. The SV wasnt that bad of a bike and I got it at pretty much brand new and cheap. And it sure was light on turns.

But as my primary riding bike i found myself not really riding it for fun and used it to run errands and get to work (5min drive) over the summer and also didnt like the stress of potentially getting a ticket or getting into an accident because I sure as hell got bored going along with traffic and you cant help but speed on those bikes. I ended up hauling my little pit bike out to the woods more than I road the sv, and thats how i learned Im a dirt rider through and through lol. But i do enjoy, the convenience, of being able to use the roads (legally) also.

I'll probably just get new plastics and a new decal kit. I can get all that for a little over $100 and will make her look gorgeous.

Corrections with the throttle are sometimes necessary however, once you find the sweet spot you shouldn't have to mess with it. The balance point is the critical issue. If you stand on the pegs instead of sitting you can adjust your body instead of the throttle.. Also, find a deserted uphill blacktop road with a few slight left and right hand turns on it. Really develops technique shifting your body weight and much easier to get it to the balance point.. And stay with it.. Muscle/body memory tends to fade over the years. Ask me how I know.. : )

what most people dont tell you is you can still steer the bike while up in the air by turning the front wheel as you can see him doing in the video. in the late 70's i was doing figure eights on the the back wheel at speed in third gear on my yamaha mx 125 out in a big pasture. also helps to let the front wheel keep spinning like a gyroscope.

Just turning wheel the isn't going to do it. It's the body weight shifting positions that you were doing that turned the bike for you.... Never got to figure 8's but did enjoy the slight left and right turns you can make, especially easy if its a slight uphill. Longest wheelie ? Depends on how much stamina you have although anything longer than a mile just didn't work for me.. There was a guy who billed himself as the " Wheelie King " many years ago who I personally watched go up and down hills, around corners etc on the Unidella MotoCross track in New York State. He had a gyroscopic front wheel, always spinning, not sure how that was accomplished. I believe there may have had international riders competing. It was a big deal... Haven't kept up with it, don't even know if the track still exists. I hope its not a housing development.. : (
