The bike I should have kept...
Best 250 ADV bike I ever had.... Honda XR250 Tornado...
What made them so great is they use the CBR250 motor... Was just a great alround bike.. What bike do you regret selling...?? http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...1/SSA41942.jpg http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...1/SSA41943.jpg With a cargo side car for long week ends away... carry all yer gear plus trout rod & gun.. extra fuel... go any where.... http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...1/SSA41774.jpg .. |

I was staring at the Honda and almost missed the beautiful scenery. Is that a true 249 250 cc? How fast? In MPH for us retarded yanks.:hehe:

the conrod has to be changed... "full engine strip" as the 300 has a 1mm bigger wrist pin... I got close to 140kmph is some where around the 85mph mark.. but our max speed limit is 100kmph... it sat on at 6000rpm... .. |
I should of kept several bikes ,my 1967 z50 ,my 1970 ct70 ,would both be near the top ,but my 1976 falta replica cz bikes are missed the most .I was almost 12 when I got the 250 and the 400 centreport from a local sponsored rider who switched brands and needed the room in a hurry .I raced those bikes for 2 years before I realized that getting less than an hour out of a clutch if I used it or not ,at $125.00 1977 money just was not worth it .The bikes both were amazing on the ice and blistering fast on the track ,but their complete lack of suspension helped pry them away from my grubby paws .I would love to have another down pipe cz racer .If anybody locates one ,I am definately interested .

Of all the bikes I ever had, the one I miss the most and should never sold was a 2001 Suz 1200cc naked bandit.
|
My '79 XS650S Special II.
|
Another 2 I should have kept were
Suzuki RE5.. Kawasaki S3 400 triple... dam it..I should have just kept the whole 36 of them... ... |
The Ducati Falcon 50 and the Honda Super 90.
I sometimes think about the CB500 but then I remember how horrifying it was to ride in the rain. |

Thats the Tenere 900... uses the MT 09 3 cylinder motor is a couple years away... that pic is only a concept drawing.... If it's like the Tenere 700 it won't be to far away from the finished item... looks like Honda & Yamahe have desided to build more offroad capable adv bikes.... But they won't be cheap compaired to the chinese offering... 700 Tenere being tested in a unfinished state..... http://www.google.co.nz/url?url=http...ZkmH804FYB6H2g ... |

i had the 5 speed version, with 6.25 hp, in 1976. why o why did i sell her? |
Pete, saw it was a concept bike later (should have mentioned), wanted to post it as an eye popper.:hehe:

Zing... I bet that's an all metal engine cowel! Yep, those old bikes that seem so primitive today so often become the most desirable.
Cool thread. |
GREAT THREAD.
Where do I start. 1999 VFR800 Interceptor. Gear driven 4 camshaft engine. Best sound in modern motorcycling. 2001 HD Super Glide Sport. Full Showa suspension, Brembo brakes and a high performance (by HD standards) engine and reinforced Dyna frame. A HD that handled and stopped and went. 1984 (or so, I forget) XR200 with a new OHC Lifan engine I concocted with the help of our fellow CR's. 1980 XS400 Yamaha. Just a plain simple happy bike. 1980 Suzuki GS1100E. You never forget your first. (That's what she said). In it's day, the fastest bike in the world. 1984 RZ350. Ring a ding ding ZOOM! I've had maybe 50 or so bikes, and those are the ones I regret selling. |
I would have to say for me it would be:
2001 Yamaha R1...fully upgraded to be a 'busa killer...never did find out this bikes top speed after all the mods were done. Got into a wreck with a buddies R6 and sold the R1 while in the hospital from that. 1993 Kawasaki ZX7 Ninja....Not much to say on this bike other then it was a fun one to ride when i got back into riding a few years ago after being off bikes for a few years after the aforementioned R6 accident. The one i regret the most however: 1993 Honda CBR 900RR Fireblade....Also a fully upgraded bike. I still think to this day had i not traded this bike in on the R1 the accident on the R6 may not have occurred. |
Sorry to hear about your accident. If an R6 put you in a hosptial God only knows what the R1 could have done!
The 900RR was and is a great bike. In it's day the lightest sharpest high performance 4 cylinder bike. I liked the perforated fairing. Another classic Japanese bike (I never had one) that I lust for is a first generation air and oil cooled GSXR1100. Especially a red white and blue one. I'd waste good money on a nice one of those. Nowadays, at almost 52, race replica bikes don't motivate me. My ST4S-ABS Ducati is fast enough. |

One I HAD to sell, Kawasaki 750 H2 smoker, without a doubt the scariest thing I ever rode. Was insane, had to make absolutely sure you were squared up and pointed where you wanted to be when you breathed on that throttle, cause you WERE going to be 'there' in a heartbeat.
Hell, I had been killing hardened combat soldiers, jumping/falling out of jets(sometimes was hard to tell the difference), and "securing" errant US troops of the "baddest of the bad" category i.e., green, maroon, and black beret types, LRRP s ,a couple of UDT types, and once, a whole group of intoxicated marine recon( good thing they were that drunk) but it was that bike that made my hair stand on end. No kidding, one night I awoke terrified and trembling from an intensely vivid nightmare in which that bike carried me to my death. Never rode it again, sold it within the week. |
We need to make a movie about your life, SeerAtlas.
Maybe gloss over the H2 experiences to avoid PTSD ;-) Never rode one, but I'd be inclined to give it a try... Craziest smoker I ever rode was a CR500, and I loved it lol. |

I miss the CBR and will probably buy another one day... |
I see 900RR's turn up every now and then and not too much $. Even prisitine examples go for around $4,000. In the day of current 'hyperbikes' the RR gets overlooked.
Also they tended to be more adult owned thn the GSXR's etc. and thus tended to fare better through the years. Sucks about the R6... I thought they were EFI, no? |
DOC, that thing's handling was atrocious, but in a straight line...before the euphoria faded. you felt like god had grabbed you by the azz :)
re the other, my daughter made me promise to write an autobio for her before I cash out, hopefully no time soon:) and my son, well he's eclipsed me in pretty much everything military: rank, qualification, citations, awards etc. except for the one i got for "NOT running fast enough" which I would gladly have missed :( in reflection, life Has been a not entirely uneventful journey but there remains so much i would like to have known and more than a few things I would rather have never learned:{ |

Congratulations to your son and I thank both of you for your service.
I assume the slow running medal was a Purple heart? |
SA, by the way, I agree with everything in your sig line very much.

Two bikes I most regret selling are:
1959 Vespa GS (VS5) with spare tire mounted in front of your knees and a spare gas tank that fit in the spare tire. Very rare. 1963 Douglas Vespa 150 (VBB) made in England. Even more rare. Only one I've ever seen. |

I've had a few toys as well both street and dirt and you'll laugh but the one I think of often is my 1982 YZ250 (I had it in the late 90s) with the radiator up on the handlebars LOL. Was the first motorcycle I restored so I had the motor reworked, the suspension tweaked to my weight and took real good care of the radiator setup to avoid leaks. And kept it clean as all get out, and how did that SOB pay me back? Blew my freaking knee out! Totally locked it out sliding and hyper extended it, turns my stomach to this day just thinking of it.
But I really enjoyed that little bike and it never let me down. Most fun I ever had on a motorcycle was a day of riding after a good snowfall. I swear that one day improved my riding 100%. Attachment 7630 |
http://images.mautofied.com/adphotos...0111238464.jpgI had a 1989 Yamaha Route 66 and a 1975 Honda CB 200http://www.cycleworld.com/sites/cycl...?itok=ftd5zplr

I had a gold 1975 CB200T. That is one I would like back.
|
Even tho I can't ride sport bikes anymore,1997 Suzuki GSXR750 SRAD in blue and white.I loved that bike, but children came first.

I sold Little Sweetie a few years ago, my restored gold 1972 CB175. The predicessor to the CB200 above. It was a sweet little bike, hence the name.
That generation GSXR was very cool, Ben! The original air/oil cooled GSXR1100 is still on my wish list. |

I prefer the 1100 because it had a more moderate seating position with the clip ons above the triple clamp, a higer seat, and lower footpegs. I am old ;-)
Plus the torque of the original GS/GSXR1100's was really excellent. I love how the tachs on those bikes started at 3000. When asked a Suzuki engineer said they left off the numbers 1 and 2 to save weight :-) In their day they were the baddest a$$ lightweight high performance bike of the day, by a wide margin. A true step forward in motorcycle design. Long since eclipsed but I like them. Make mine the red white and blue one. 1986. |
Can't believe I remember all that junk from so long ago. Just to show you how much that 22 year old medical student wanted one.
