My LF200 GY-5 finally arrived and I got right to it...

Well my bike arrived today and I started putting it together about 3:00 PM. I got my lock tight, lock washers, and engine oil and was ready to go. Here are the pics of the progress. I do have some questions about what some of the elitrical items are on the front and I also have a box of parts that I can not quite place. Anyway enjoy...and please tell me what a few things are.

What are these parts:

What does this connect to?

After 7 hours of work and putting lock tight on everything as directed here is where I am at the end of day 1:

Nice! I see that they still don't put "Cool Boy" stickers on them anymore, but they do still come with the "auspicious" handlebar pads with the weird monster thing picture on it. Congrats!! :!:

I think I see front and real wheel spacers in the box, A bag of spares, and two brackets that I have no idea what their used for!!!

The elctrical component in your hand has a tab with a hole that should be attached under or around the headlight, Just needs to be bolted down to something in that area....

Im sure you will get some better replies soon!

P.S. Try to read your assembly manual it's in chinglish!!! :D

06-09-2008 11:59 PM

P.S. Picture number 7, Please do not assemble with those tools!!!

Give the supplied tool kit to your son or little brother for his tonka truck!!! :D :D :D

IronFist 06-10-2008 12:11 AM

OK don't quote me on this but since I'm first to reply...
In the box, at the top, those 2 things left and right are your chain adjusters, they go on the rear axel to keep both sides even.
It looks like the left adjuster is missing the rear bracket that the right adjuster has.

To the right of the bag, is the slider/washer there should be 2.

The bolt nut washer combo LOOKS like it comes from a drum brake.

In the bag it LOOKS like a battery strap.

That's all I got, hope it helps

Yes, axle adjusters and the two spacers that go on the axle. Not sure on the misc bolts. I think I see an axle nut in there.

The diode is in your hand is the neutral safety start something. Just use one of the bolts holding the headlight fairing to the bracket and secure it there.

There should be two of the black piece with the 90 degree bend and the hole in it. They are the axle positioner piece that slides along the outside of the swingarm. It should have a series of marks on it.

I agree, I was looking for a reason to get more tools!!!

In the center of the box of strange parts there is what looks like a cotter pin screw and nut. Is that for my rear break arm?

Funny this bike has a mfg date of April 2008 and it had drum breaks. I thought that disk would be the standard. Is there a conversion kit to go from drum to disk?

katoranger 06-10-2008 10:42 AM

That bolt is for the brake arm where it attached to the drum hub. The rear drum is fine for that bike.

The 2006 models had rear disc, but they had alot trouble with them. I got mine solved with a Honda CBR master cylinder.

Looks like fun! Mine should be arriving late this week or early next. Good luck!

Lifans are nice. I wish I had gotten a Lifan instead. Where did you order it from?

Trader.

That is a nice bike....

jayg 06-10-2008 09:03 PM

I need a photo posted please

I am sorry about asking for this but my bike did not come with any instructions so I am winging it.

Can someone please reply with a photo of their rear and front wheel spacers in place?

Thanks in advance...

katoranger 06-10-2008 09:05 PM

The front should be the speedo drive on the right side and the spacer on the left side.

My rear will be different than yours.

Battery question

I added the enzyme solution to my battery. IS that self charging or do I need to hit it with a trickle charge?
I turn on my key and nothing happens...

I put mine on a battery tender for a few hours before using it.
Worked like a champ. On the first try the bike started right up.

I had started the bike previously using the kickstarter.

katoranger 06-11-2008 10:28 PM

I believe you need to charge it. Overnight with a trickle type would be best.

Allen

jayg 06-11-2008 10:38 PM

Sounds good the battery states 0.7A for 5-10 hours or 3.0A for 1hr...I am going for the one hour charge.

katoranger 06-11-2008 10:41 PM

That is fine, but the slower rate charge is usually better. If you want to try it to see if it will start use the the fast charge time. You can put it on a slow rate charge later.

Allen

jayg 06-11-2008 11:46 PM

I just noticed that my charger is a 30amp 12v charger not a 3.0. I realized this after I let it charge the battery for about 15 minutes. I may need another battery and I will also get a different charger as well.

katoranger 06-12-2008 11:25 AM

30amps will fry that battery. That would probably start the bike.

You need a 1 amp charger. Slower is better on small batteries.

If I need to replace my battery what kind do I need and where can I get it?

yurkia 06-12-2008 01:18 PM

take yer old into the motorcyle shop and tell em you need a new one. if it's anything like around here, you are going to have to exchange the old one or pay a core charge.

jayg 06-12-2008 06:05 PM

Day 4 of build

Ok I need to get a trickle charger and see if my battery still works after my amp error. Also I have some questions in the attached photo about identity of some connectors...Thanks in advance.

katoranger 06-12-2008 10:02 PM

I will have to look on my bike, but I would match the color of the wires coming out of them.

Maybe someone else who has assembled a Gy5 lately can speak up.

Allen

jayg 06-12-2008 11:28 PM

I tried rolling down my drive today and pop starting. The bike choked and sputtered but no success. My battery is on a trickle charge and charged light is on but nothing from the battery. When I turn the ignition on it is dead, no lights etc. I will try to get a new battery tomorrow and see what happens.

katoranger 06-12-2008 11:36 PM

Check the main fuse in the harness and make sure that it is good too.

Your battery may be fine.

The fuse should be in the positive lead near the battery.

If you have a voltmeter check the the battery and see what you get.

If you don't have one spend the $20 at walmart and get a digital one. This probably won't be the last time you need it.

Allen

jayg 06-13-2008 08:52 AM

My Fuse was blown and I replaced it. My lights now come on when the ignition is turned on. My battery had a 8 hour trickle charge it shows 12.5 volts. Now my starter will not work. I switch it to run, hold in my brake and nothing...any ideas?

frostbite 06-13-2008 09:14 AM

Stupid questions, but is the kill switch engaged?

I know I've done it.

Good question...where is the kill switch?

On the starter switch I have the small orange switch to run, is that what you are talking about?

jayg 06-13-2008 11:38 AM

About my starter...I checked all connections and all looks good. There are some connectors in the front wiring harness that I posted in a pic a few threads up.

It is like the starter is not getting any juice to the starter at all. I took the switch apart and all connections look good there as well.

katoranger 06-13-2008 11:58 AM

Kill switch would be the one above the start button. Mine starter still works with it off.

Check to make sure it is in neutral and the you have the clutch lever pulled in.

Today I bring good news

I am happy to say that the #5 is rolling!!!! I finally started looking at the wiring diagram on the Techinfo thread and discovered that I had the connectors connected wrong. I Changed the connectors and WHALA!! The dam thing started, WITH THE STARTER!!!

I am having what I think is fuel flow issues. I am having to constantly goose it at stops and some times it will stop. Another strange thing is when turn the front wheel hard left my engine revs and it seems that my throttle cable gets stuck. Other than that I am rolling!

Once my papers arrive it is of toe the DMV and yet another adventure!!!

I want to thank everyone for their support and help during the build process.

Thanks,
Jay

Did you move the c-clip in the carb? Also you may need to turn your idle up. The idle is the screw on the right side of the carb. That will help keep it running at stops.

The throttle cable may need to be re-routed alittle to give it more slack.

Allen

What is the C clip?

I have the screw turned to hold a idle at 1100 rpm or there about. It idles just right the sputter.

This link might help. It worked a miracle on my Lifan.

make sure you lube your cables so they don't stick (throttle/clutch)
