Yamoto gearbox w reverse

Im looking for a gearbox with reverse for a yamoto 150....Have found a #12 gearbox on a couple of sites but they r out of stock...anybody else have this problem

Gear box

the gearbox is off the rear cvt shaft...right behind where you put oil in at....and the gear selector is near your right foot.....trying to post a pic of what i had found but not sure if it will work..

That looks like the planetary type that is often found on GY6 engines. Have you tried dune buggy sites? Those guys typically use this type more often than atv's.

Here's some detail on it: How It Works! GY6 Reverse Gearbox

Any Suggestions

WHich buggy site would be the best ....i have seen some but no gearboxes

Weldangrind 11-27-2011 12:27 PM

I don't know which would be the best, but a quick Google search revealed www.gokartsusa.com , and they seem to deal in what you're after.

Bubbaz 12-23-2011 08:02 PM

A little WV how to...lol

Well kinda fed up with the responses that I have gotten from the shops that I have called usually that they r out of stock......so I took the gearbox apart...removed the forward and reverse gear...and the shift fork....which left me with the 2 main shafts that are now welded together...now it will be a forward only but thats ok...I did decide to replace the inner non sealed bearing with a sealed bearing since there was going to be no gear oil in the unit....making a patch out of some steel to cover the chunk that was broke and to give it some more support...pictures later.....bearing should be in Wednesday of next week...so Ill report back then

Oh Btw how does one post pics???

Weldangrind 12-24-2011 06:13 PM

Picture posting instructions: How to share your photos

Good idea on the sealed bearing. So, there was no resurrecting the reverse function?

Na weld I didnt see any way of saving the reverse...plus the time from when it broke he rode it up to the house and chewed up the carrier gear the gear that switches it from forward to reverse....so I feel this is the best remedy and if it doesnt work...well then part it out...lol......trying to link photos from facebook...looks like it will take you to those photos.....Im off of work next week Ill start a photobucket id....meanwhile check those pics out....one set is from a atv ride...we covered about 30 miles of backwoods and back roads here in Central WV....then the others r from a ride to Seneca Rocks and Dolly Sods on the DR 650...

Weldangrind 12-24-2011 06:41 PM

I clicked on the link, but it said unavailable.

We have a 150 GY6 atv, but our reverse is in the rear axle. The output shaft (where your planetary reverse is mounted) has only a sprocket on our atv. Perhaps that would work for you.

rich_e 12-25-2011 03:24 PM

I got a gearbox from Roketa. It was $160 and $40 shipping. But it worked. Sounds like you've got the same type of ATV. Here's a link to the parts detail: http://www.roketa.com/product/parts_...onPartId=10304

It's #62.

This is the gearbox that was on mine:

And this pic shows it installed:

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...0580844441.jpg

They are very fragile and I think your idea to weld it solid it is the way to go. Mine broke from shifting while moving it was the first day we had it out of the box (Christmas present from my son in 2007).

Bubbaz 12-25-2011 09:33 PM

gearbox

Rich e...my gearbox doesnt mount like that....i dont have the extra bracket back to the engine...although the other 2 bolts that bolt to the cvt is the same......but my shaft where the sprocket rest isnt hollow it is solid...gears look simular .....for now yeah I welded the 2 inner shafts together and if it breaks im still not out much...and back to square one.......to go to your setup id have to purchase the gearbox plus the shaft that the clutches run on...Doesnt that bolt at the end of the sprocket shaft go through and bolt to the shaft that the cvt clutches run on?

My Main Ride...1991 Honda 250x.....Just put new rear carrier and bearings just after that ride...

http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/...-47-54_260.jpg

My son just before the bearings went out....i wonder why???..

rich_e 12-25-2011 10:53 PM

Yes the shaft goes through the gear box and rides in the carrier bearing on the frame. I've seen the style on yours when I was searching for a replacement for mine but a lot of my parts bookmarks don't work anymore. So many places have gone out of business in the past few years.

katoranger 12-27-2011 09:26 AM

You don't need reverse. Turn and apply throttle.

Bubbaz 12-27-2011 02:31 PM

I hear u Katoranger....make the mud fly...lol....the kids had a kasea skyhawk 50 that didnt have reverse...so they should be use to it...Im just hoping this thing will stay together after i get it put back together..

Bubbaz 12-31-2011 11:18 PM

Ok Update....well got sealed bearing and it fits... the gearbox installed with an extra brace ..idea came from the Henisun..150....but mine comes off the top of the gearbox..then to the lower motor mount.....then cause it has set for 2 years....i had to take off the carb.....broke a little plastic taking the front end off....but the carb was nasty....all clean...and back on ...now it starts on the first fire...attending to the plastic now with some JB Weld...see if that works......As for the gearbox....not under a load it seems to run pretty smooth now....for how long thats the real question...

http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/...-53-15_509.jpg
The case that i fixed with wood screws...notice sealed bearing.

http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/...-52-28_719.jpg

Full of grease.

Installed with extra brace.

MICRider 01-01-2012 01:02 AM

Good stuff, that's chinarider ingenuity right there! Got my fingers crossed she holds for you :D

Weldangrind 01-01-2012 02:16 PM

If the gearbox doesn't hold, I bet that this would fit: Output Sprocket GY6 150cc Moped ATV Quad Go Kart

You could always extend the sprocket shaft as necessary to line up with the rear axle sprocket. No more gears, housing or bearings. That's how my daughter's quad is set up, but hers has reverse in the rear axle.

Bubbaz 01-02-2012 11:52 AM

Thats a thought Weld....Yee Haa we have out first snow today....I can still see the grass so not much so far....The JB Weld is dry on the plastic fender and tank cover...so I can see this thing being back together today.....I did find something else....the rear left wheel hub seems loose....I need to check that out....the bike started this morning which is a good thing...being pretty cool in the garage... Hey Weld... do you have any pics from the rear axle back to the front sprocket....just from thinking I would think that the shock might be in the way....and maybe the swing arm..

Weldangrind 01-02-2012 01:15 PM

My shop is a disaster right now, but I'll be happy to take some pics once I straighten things out. You shouldn't have any interference if the new sprocket lines up like the old one. It'll take some creative spacing.

bristol247 01-07-2012 05:29 PM

do they use the same engine thats in a yamoto 150 in any other atvs

Bubbaz 01-09-2012 11:56 AM

From the research that I have done, the 150 motor is the same as much that you will see out there....engine parts are not hard to find. I had a problem finding a gearbox for my 150 ....IN STOCK.....mine is a 2005 model. I would suggest that you would put locktite on all of the bolts that you find esp the ones that connect the gearbox and engine....check all axle bolts and hubs. Loose bolts is the reason why my gearbox broke to begin with. Its been a good wheeler til the gearbox broke. I have been under the weather last week and didnt get to work on the 150 much....but Ill have it going this weekend..and give you all a report how the gearbox repair held up.

bristol247 01-09-2012 12:47 PM

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of strippng it down and giving it all a once over with all bolts anyway but i think i will change them all now. Also ive notice that the engine is a nexmotor is this the original engine or has someone replaced it with a new one as all the pitures i have seen they have yamoto engines in them

Bubbaz 01-12-2012 07:34 PM

Hey Guys I took the yamoto out for a spin....a quick spin....I had a flat front tire....lol...but anyways i took it off my hill and back up....seemed fine...but i had to go to town and pick my boy from basketball practice...so didnt have time to fix the tire.....hopefully we might have a snow day tomorrow...then Ill have time to address the tire and let my son beat on it...I got some tires for the 250x and the DR650 today...getting ready for the upcoming riding season.

Bubbaz 01-14-2012 05:18 PM

Alrighty Now...Fixed the flat and took the Yamoto out for a ride...had a sticky throttle...took it back to the garage...while adjusting and lubing everything about it.....almost ran into my large toolbox....had a time finding the shut off switch...lol....after got the throttle all fixed I rode it for about an hour....now im 6'1"...280...so this thing pulled me around fine I think this is going to work...Hopefully....Later.. :D

Bubbaz 01-22-2012 12:44 PM

I love the pictures. You are a lucky man. Great wife, great place to ride, great weather. God is good.

Weldangrind 01-23-2012 10:30 AM

Thanks for the pics! Did reverse work properly for you?

Bubbaz 01-26-2012 09:47 PM

reverse

Well now Weld......it worked as expected........my hands and her on the throttle....We really didnt need reverse....but at one dead end....I did help her turn around......But we did have a great time...I just put new tires on the 250 x....and they worked well...I hated the miles that i put on them on the blacktop....but didnt seem to bother them. that was her first solo run....so we stayed mostly on the county roads.....and I also kept the Yamoto out of any deep water....just afraid of getting water into the stator....through the fan...We use to have a polaris predater 90 that had a snorkle that led from the fan up toward the tank.... we might need one of these before summer..

Bubbaz 03-11-2012 09:46 PM

Still going

Update on the Yamoto.......its motoring along very well...My son rode it all weekend....no odd sounds...no break downs.....thats a good thing...I also bought a new mig welder.....so im ready for something to break,,,lol,,,I need practice......

Weldangrind 03-12-2012 12:19 AM

We're gonna need pics of the MIG! :D

Bubbaz 03-17-2012 01:32 AM

For $299.....this is a machine on paper comes close to the quality of the alot higher priced lincoln welders...check it out on Eastwood.com.Havent tried it yet.....Baseball season has started... I was off today and did buy some steel to make a trailer hitch for the 250x....should be fun Ill post some pics when done.......hopefully by August...lol...

Weldangrind 03-17-2012 11:42 AM

I've been hoping to try one of those. My buddy just won a welder like that through his Land Cruiser club, and he wants me to help him dial it in. If yours is the MIG I'm thinking of, it has infinite voltage control, vs 4, 5 or 6 selections. Good choice.
