DB-06 Paint job
Im going to paint my bike black! I have gotten pretty used to my blue plastics, but if i would have had a choice in color originally, it would have been black. Also my frame is black, so i think it will look pretty sweet. so that's the plan for today!
I plan on going to the store and getting some Black Glossy Krylon fusion. I remember someone telling me a while back, that that was the stuff to use. I have all the plastics off, going to clean them before i head to the store to get the paint. Woo Woo! Hope the paint looks as shiny as my current color! http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4003/dsc00262qh.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/8/dsc00264ki.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3007/dsc00263nh.jpg here's it basically finished http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/3815/dsc00266z.jpg |
This is gonna be good.
Krylon Fusion is a good paint. Easy to work with and repair, inexpensive and smooth. I doubt it will stand up to gas spills so you'll want to be careful while fueling but otyher than that you are good to go! |
Done! i think it turned out pretty perfect! fender has a few bigger drips but you can't really tell , but the other plastics are smooth and dark black, learned after a bit of spraying to lay the paint on thick right away.
I still have to paint the gas tank plastics black, but it still looks pretty good w/o them, will paint those either today or tomorrow, i need another can of paint. check it out! http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/3815/dsc00266z.jpg http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/298/dsc00267vn.jpg http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6127/dsc00268cz.jpg http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/4117/dsc00269s.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3792/dsc00270mp.jpg http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/9498/dsc00272o.jpg |
Bike looks great!
Seems the swingarm could use some silver.... Nice home area :D . PLEASE tell me the leaves are not falling up there already! |

Im pretty sure those leaves are form a dying tree we have, freaked me out too when i first seen it. Gotta paint the underside of the fender and two tank plastics, and it will look even better! |
Freaked me out too when i first seen it.
I HATE winter. |
Your paint job looks good, Gamma. :) You might consider leaving the fuel shrouds off the bike; your bike looks good without them, and spilt fuel will probably discolor the Krylon Fusion paint. ;)

I'm curious if any of you guys have had a chance to paint your plastics using plasti-dip? I've been thinking of doing that myself I'm not sure how it would hold up. A few of my friends have had good luck painting alloy wheels with it and it looks great but I'm not so sure about the plastics they seem to take more of a beating.
|
I'm unfamiliar with Plasti Dip. :? However, I am well familiar with Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic. ;) Krylon Fusion bonds very well to plastic, and is very resistant to scratches and chipping. If one is painting plastic, I highly recommend Kryon Fusion spray paint. :)

The bike looks good murdered out like that. I vote for black on the swingarm. If you don't want to go through the hassle of masking everything off, you can paint it with a foam brush and some liquid Rustoleum. It's easy to touch up as well.

What kind of liquid rustolem would i use? any certain kind? |
I like regular Rustoleum rust paint in semi-gloss black. It applies well and it dries quickly.
|
may want to consider some reflective pinstripes or something if you ever ride at night, otherwise looks good.
|
The plasti-dip spray is awesome stuff, kinda expensive but it bonds to plastic well and lays smooth and nice sort of flat not real glossy. It is very tough though and touch up is possible.

I did my car rims and while not a paint, it's extremely easy to apply, is unbelievably durable, easily repairable if scarred and totally reversable, if you get tired of it. It stands up well against gravel, snow, sand and salt, as well. Don't mean to hijack the thread but someone asked and others here are unfamiliar with the product..... Car looks awesome. Very aggressive. 8)
I'm not familiar with it, other than the cans we used to dip pliers handles into to get a cushioned surface. Will try it sometime. :D |

FAR cheaper than new rims! :D (in true Chinarider fashion!) |

Plasti Dip comes in a nice range of colors! http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip Plasti Dip is also widely sold by many retailers. :) http://www.plastidip.com/diy_where_to_buy.php Spud :) |
Didn't realize it is available in a spray bomb. That may become part of the China Rider's approved coating list!
|
I'm very curious what the clear looks like; clear gloss, satin, or flat.
|
Bike looks good. Black gloss krylon is awesome. Did some paint crack on the tip of the front fender. Happened to me when I re painted everything the other day, if so just use soap and water to clean thereafter stripping the paint. And yes gas will eat away at the paint I have a finger print next to my gas cap.
|
Perhaps the Plasti Dip would be more fuel resistant, and a better choice for painting the gas tank shrouds.
