yerf dog project
Hey guys i have a yerf dog and i need to mount the engine but i dont know if the centrifugal clutch would move a 350 pound buggy around 25-30 miles
It doesnt have the origional engine it has a 7.5 hp briggs
Please post some pics.

I think it's really cool! With a centrifugal clutch, you basically have two gearing options: either 72/12 or 60/11. What size is your clutch sprocket?
The 72/12 ratio will take off a little faster, but the 60/11 will have a little faster top speed. |
I believe the size sprocket is a 10number tooth comet clutch and the main sproket is like 55 or 60 not sure, so do you think its good having that clutch instead of the regular band clutch
I don't know what you mean by band clutch. The clutch that you have is the most common style for mini bikes and karts. Stick with the gearing you have for now.
Im sorry lol the torque converters, i will, are these type of clutches durable?
They're durable enough, and cheap enough to replace when they fail. Torq-a-Verters (by Comet) are excellent, but costly.
Okay, im going to use it in pretty rough terrain thats why
The springs inside can be adjusted so that the clutch will engage at different RPMs. I would stick with what you have and see how it goes. The briggs engine should be enough power.
The comet belt setups are very costly. You can buy 10 of the centrifugal units for the cost of a comet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-SAGjUidZs |
That looks like a ton of fun if you have the places to use it. :D

Im going to ride it almost on this terrain but with rocks |
Doc is very jealous.
Where in California is that? |
Haha im going to take the buggy and the chinese quad, Its in box canyon near coachella valley california
HOT! 8O
I bet there is some great riding there, and no one to bother you. 8) One of these days I'd like to D/S Bishop, to your north. |
Haha its pretty cool but on the quad you need a permit or sticker, yea the place is BIG and check out glamis california
I've ridden Glamis. I loved it. Also Jawbone, and much of the Mojave.
I miss California greatly. Don't ever leave. It's kinda a one way ticket. |
Haha im going to start going everywere, im here near baja california, i go to places and ive been to Washington and mexico there all cool
It's a great country we have here. The West in particular for on and off road motorcyclists.
Canada too. 8) |
The place ive been in washington is in wenatchee and chelan i liked it i wish on going over there and go quading, ive never been to canada off-roading
I have ridden and snowmobiled Wenatchee and loved it. I have been to Chelan but by air or street bike. Another nice place!
Before I moved to Washington I looked at a job in Tehachapi, California just up the mountain from Mojave. I wonder what would have happened if I took it.... On the other hand I woould have never met Roger or Linda or had any of the other blessings I've enjoyed in Washington so it's all good. |
:O ive never snowmobiled, its cool in the desert and this buggy needs an engine mount but i dont know where to get it
Is the original mount broken? Can you show us?
I could show u guys but its dark outside, and the mount is not broken the engine just takes alot of space and i dont know were to get the metal plates from or how to mount the engine
The motor bolts to the flat piece it is sitting on in your pics. There should be slotted holes to put bolts in. This is your chain adjustment. You slide the motor back and forth to tighten the chain.
The larger engine may not fit correctly so it may require you to drill some new holes in the plate. |
I know but i need to weld another piece of metal because the engine is too much to the left
Too far to the left by how much?
My bad, if you stand behind the car the engine is all the way to the right but it needs like a 4 inch wide 20inch long piece of metal
Does the large sprocket on the axle have provisions for it to slide on the axle. Maybe you can move it to help align the motor.
It does but only half an inch
Most centrifugal clutches can be mounted either way; you can have the sprocket facing out or in.
This clutch doesnt havw that option its just put on and screw in
What I mean is that your clutch can be mounted onto the shaft either way. Right now, you have the clutch sprocket facing out; remove the clutch and flip it around, and the sprocket will be facing in. Does that help you?
I cant do that the bore is only 1" from one side and i cant flip it to face the opposite direction
if you could flip it around, would that help you?

i cant flip the clutch it wont fit on the shaft |
I understand. What I'm asking is, if you could flip it around, would that solve your problem?
Flip the clutch or the big sproket?
