Help! My Zongshen 200 won't start
I Just bought a used 2006 Zongshen 200. The bike has less than 300 miles on it but the other day when I took the bike for a ride the engine shut off and I had to coast off the road. When I tried to start it nothing happened. I took it apart to see if any wires came disconnected but everything looks fine. I took the spark plug out and pushed the electric start but can't see a spark. I changed the spark plug and nothing again! I just want to ride my new bike, can anyone give me some tips to help me fix it!

Agreed. CDI until proven otherwise. A spare DCI is an important part of a Chinabike's diagnostic toolbox.

Thanks for the tip Spud and Doc! I figured the CDI was the problem after reading a similar problem that you had Spud. I'll order one today and hopefully it fixes my bike :D.
It's a 2006 Sierra 200. |
Does anyone know a website or number I can order new CDI for my bike?

Go to eBay and order one. You just have to find one that has the same plug configuration. If you can, find one that has it's own power supply...you'll know because it'll have a red wire hanging from the body and not going to a plug.

Which Yamaha motorcycles do you think employ the same CDI unit as the Zongshen 200GY-2? Based upon my research at the Yamaha, TW200 forum, I discovered those forum members believe the Zongshen, 200GY-2 electrical system is different from the Yamaha, TW200 electrical system. If one is patient, and persistent, he can obtain the Zongshen, 200GY-2, CDI unit from Zongshen America, for a very reasonable price. I have bought several CDI units from Zongshen America. Has anyone here bought parts from this Chinese vendor? How easy is the purchasing process? How much does shipping cost? How long does it take for the part to arrive? Personally, I think it would be far easier, and safer, to order the Zongshen, 200GY-2, CDI unit from Zongshen America. ;) Spud :) |

Thank you, Humanbeing. :)

Finally got the new CDI for my bike, popped it in and it started right up! Thanks for all the help everyone, honestly probably wouldn't have figured it out alone. Is there a reason the CDI goes bad? can I do something different to avoid problems from it again?

I strongly encourage you to purchase a spare CDI unit for your Zong. The spare CDI unit greatly facilitates troubleshooting the electrical system. Also, if your CDI unit fails again in the future, you can plug in your spare CDI unit, and go riding! :) Incidentally, the replacement CDI unit on my Zong is still working great with almost 40,000 miles on my bike's odometer. :D Spud :) |
