New TMEC 200

Got mine in finally. I did measure the rear sprocket, and it does appear to match the Derbi Senda 125R's. The bolt hole size and spacing across the hub matches, can't tell if the bolt spacing is the same though since it doesn't say on the diagram. No time to order and install it either, I fly out again in a week.

So impressions. Its a really good looking bike. I like the 17" rims, I can actually get real street tires for it. Top speed was 63mph downhill. 55mph is the true "can always get" top speed, 58mph top on a flat straight. Installed an Iridium NGK plug and using Rotella oil for break in. Engine runs out of oomph fairly quickly. Sprocket may fix that. Odometer and speedometer have stopped working. Worked fine, the started jumping around, then just stopped. They were running about 15mph optimistic while they were working, showed 25 miles on the trip while gps showed 20. Thinking the tire size was the cause of the optimism. Mirrors suck, headlights suck, grips suck. Installed some Progrip cruiser duo density gels, I've got these installed on all my bikes, my favorite grips. I hit my right knee on the rack nearly every time I dismount, thing hurts. No clue about gas mileage yet due to not being able to trust the odometer. Ran half a can of Seafoam through it since its probably been sitting a while. After losing a heat shield bolt I went through and loctighted everything that wasn't bolted to the engine.

This is my first time on an off road style bike, seating triangle is a bit weird to me. Feels like I should be leaning more, very upright position. Thing is tall, seems like a 34" seat height. I'm fine with just one foot down though. Bike is loud at top speed. No way would I take the baffle out. I've noticed my chicken strips are huge. Roads here just don't take much lean compared to Sicily. I think choke position is up on the carb, but it seems to just die when I do it. Bike doesn't seem to need it though, starter spins like crazy. Think it could start a bike with 3 times the displacement. Kicker works good too. My second bike had one so I'm kind of fond of them.

So conclusion, I like it, but I am pissed beyond belief it took 3 weeks to get here. Ruined part of my vacation. Very nice bike for $1,500 shipped and assembled.

I think those are really nice machines. I hope it gives you many happy miles.

Nice bike--where do you live? Where did you buy it? Is it street registered?

FastDoc 11-30-2011 11:55 PM

Yes, where are you?

I also like the TMEC's.

Taiwanese IIRC?

I'm glad your bike finally arrived, Brockway! :) I think your white bike with the red frame looks best. ;) Regarding the Derbi 125R sprocket, if the bolt hole size and spacing across the center of the hub matches, I'm confident you got the correct rear sprocket. :)

I'm sorry to hear you bang your knee on the luggage rack. :? I have inspected the TMEC 200 up close, and I really liked the large, strong luggage rack; I think it could safely haul a considerable load. ;) The Chinese certainly know how to build a luggage rack! :D

I was also impressed with the comfortable, wide saddle. :)

If you have time, please post more photos of your bike!

In Texas. Yup, all registered, did the title application yesterday, bought it from Supersportz online from California. Insurance was just $76 for the entire year. Its made in China. I'll take some more pics of it tomorrow. The 8.5mm and 125mm are both identical on the sprocket. What I really like about the white is it isn't flat like the black and red ones. Its like glossy pearl.

Is the 105mm diameter of the center hole the same? If so, and the bolt holes are unevenly spaced, you have a winner! ;)

We eagerly await your photos. :) I agree with you; I don't like the flat black bikes. The pearl white plastic, coupled with the red frame, looks great! :D

Brockway, welcome and nice bike. Because these bikes are a bit taller, you'll probably have to change the way you mount/dismount it. I have a tail bag which makes mine even taller. I mount the bike with the stand down. I grab the bars, step on the left peg, and swing my leg over. Then I right the machine and swing the stand up. I do the reverse when I dismount. I'm 6' tall so I shouldn't have to do this but I'm getting older (50) so I take short cuts where I can.

The tach sounds like a wire loose somewhere, I would suggest looking at the bundle under the headlight and see if one of the wires has come loose from one of the plugs. The TMEC bikes are a lifan bike and should be very similar to the gy-5 in wiring and setup from all I can discover. Good looking bike, good luck.

My guess is that the speedometer cable is broken. When you get a replacement, take the cable out of the housing and give it a liberal dose of Maxima Chain Wax. Spray inside the housing as well. When you install the cable assembly, ensure that it is routed smoothly; the factory routing may not be the best.

Chinese speedo cables are a notorious weak point.

How true Doc! I am 0 - 3 in my garage...the Zong's speedo cable is not even weak, it's nonexistent. I'm just thinking of getting overlay panels for the speedo's that read, "not very fast"

FastDoc 12-01-2011 12:04 PM

I'm very happy with the speedometer, and the speedometer cable on my Zongshen 200GY-2. My speedometer and odometer are still working perfectly after 42,000 miles. :D

Spud :)
