Cluster install and turn signal problems.....

1 Attachment(s)
A gentleman who bought a cluster from me is having some issues. Here is his e-mail:

"Hello, what is happening is that when I turn the signal on the indicator stays on and the signal does not blink unless I press either the back brake, front brake or push the high beam. And it blinks one time and stops. The old cluster works fine."

I e-mailed the factory and this was their reply, It looks like they want us to install resistors in line? Not sure why one bike is doing this and no others as far as i know are:

"Hi Dear Matt,

This case happens because the meter turn light working voltage dose not matches the voltage of the flasher. There is no problem with the meter, no problem with the bike. just does not match very well.

Please check the attached picture, it is from our tech, solution and analysis are both written in it. The working voltage of flasher is 6-12V, while the voltage of our meter turning light is 3V. When the voltage goes higher than 3V,the light will always be on.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards"

Is their anyone in the Memphis TN area that might be able to temp swap clusters to see if the factory is wrong and it is a cluster issue? I also suggested to try a new universal flasher.

I wonder if the blinker module is bad? Did he reinstall the original cluster or is he just saying it didn't do it with the original cluster?

I bought a blinker module from autozone for 6$ and it worked fine when mine broke.

He's running LED's That is one thing i forgot to ask him. You think that might be the issue?

LED's have lower resistance. I think that could be the issue. Does he have the stock lights still? Doesn't even need to install them if he just wires them it should tell you.

a lot of the LED lights do not have a resister built in to correct for the difference. could easily be the issue. he could swap bulbs temporarily to check or just add the usual turn resister[s] as necessary.

Definitely.

I'd try an LED-specific flasher first. I recommend against the resistor route; that negates the power efficiency of the LED's.

He put the factory bulbs in and everything works as it should. Thanks guys!

so if he wants the LED's he'll just need to replace the flasher module with an LED specific one.
