Zongshen Storm Cruiser 250CC First Oil Change
Today, I finally wore my DIY hat and started the oil change process for the Zongshen. Similar to another "hobby" of mine, I learned a lot after joining a friendly forum. Sincere thanks to the forum members who gave me advice, I approached this process with confidence.
Now, before I proceed any further (and possibly cause damage to my bike), I'd like to show some pics for your constructive criticism. My two main questions are: 1) did I remove the correct oil drain bolt? 2) Did the pan measurement of about 3 quarts of drained oil just about right? http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psw6axyejr.jpg http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...psbwkkruec.jpg http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/...pselarjxqp.jpg |
It appears you struck oil. And crude at that  now take that amount, replace, then be ready to check the site glass/dipsticks oil level. Will need to check and top off and also check it as the bike is on the level and not on the stand. That said the best thing for it, clean oil. You'll even feel a difference in the shifting.
Also, rock it over so it all comes out. And also good to heat the oil before draining (run it around the block). Hot oil flows better than cold oil (Watch out, it burns skin too). |
3 quarts ?!

Thanks. I did run it before draining.
I'm still struggling with the quantity of drained oil. It was leaking a bit before. Oh, and is the oil filter on the right-hand side with two bolts? |

Thanks, guys. Sight shows clear oil at the proper level. Oil filter has been replaced too. I only put about 1.5 liters and now, I'm guessing, the leak was due to too much oil that the sight couldn't show anything because it was way above the max line. But I'm just guessing. Again, my sincere thanks.

Is a wonder it even ran with 3 quarts. It was leaking alright, out of every pore I imagine.

I drove it for about 10 miles and not a single leak... fingers crossed. |
~3 quarts is for the bigger bro: 535 /400
These small V-twin shouldn't run with such amount... |
Thanks for sharing the pics. I've never seen a drain plug quite like that. Also, it's cool to see how the spherical rod ends provide the forward controls.

Rode it to work 60 miles r/t. It's leaking like a drop per hour. Did I not tighten the bolt enough? I thought about replacing the washer but I read that I don't have to. The oil sight window still shows good oil level.
On another note, I can barely reach 80kph on 4th gear. If I put it on 5th, it decelerates to the mid-60s to low 70s. From a full stop, I can barely keep up with 40mph traffic. |
