Brozz exhaust and tuning failure
4 Attachment(s)
Well my Mikuni clone arrived yesterday. I left the 40 pilot jet and installed a 115 main. Turned the mixture screw out 1 3/4 turns . I left the needle clip in the center. In stalled the carb. With a Brozz you have to remove the rubber coupling attached to motor unlike the stock carb. The frame is in the way. See pic.
I install a free flowing exhaust and removed the snorkel on the airbox. Bike started easily and I adjusted the idle down to 1500 rpms once it was warm. I tooled around slowing. Bike feel better but obnoxiously loud under power. Cruising around 35 indicated in 5th gear had a nice mellow exhaust note. Everything seem ok so I took her on a full out run. Bike pulled better I saw 7500 rpms in 5th. But my emissions delete plug shot off and she became really loud . I limped home and saw the exhaust had changed colors and my rear reflector paid the price of my WOT run. Well, I hate the exhaust. The stock unit is going back on. I’ll put it up for sale if anyone’s interested. $50 shipped. Could use some help for tuning the new carb in stock form. Will the 40 pilot and 110 main be a good starting point? Florida here around 60-75 ft above sea level. Should I leave the snorkel out? |

At you some point you failed with the installation. That Pro Tork and most of the chinese ones or even the ones that are made locally in south america, are clones of the FMF Powerbomb header and the powercore 4
On small Honda and Yamaha engines (and their clones too) they sound quite nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92cyOnXbxMM Don't hate it just yet, go back to the drawing board and try again. About the discoloration is somewhat common if you run all the time your engine at WOT or if you are bit lean or a bit rich. If you are lean the extra heat will cause it to go blue, if you are rich the unburnt gas that burns on the header will make it blue too. Even in perfect conditions it will eventually turn blue. Just use this. Attachment 21745 |
This was the second time I installed it, attempted to adjust figment. The first time I had the canister slightly higher but this caused massive leaks in the connecting pipes. I wanted everything sealed as tight as possible. In doing so, this caused the mufflers location to be slightly lower.
I’m not a big fan of the sound it produces. At idle and cruising its nice but its simply too loud for my taste under acceleration. It needs a baffle of some kind to tone it down a lot! |
They make universal DB killers that you can try. Some people say they work. Others say they don't. I guess it's one of those "your mileage may vary" type of things.
|
If you really want to sell it ill take it for my hawk.
But you should be able to find a arrestor or baffle that will take some of the sharpness away. they are knock off cans. my exhaust on my storm is pointed right at my reflector and in 900 miles it hasn't melted, just some soot. the emissions plug may have had something to do with it. |
Duck9191 , I deleted the emissions as I had removed the cat. When the cap blew off of the port on the side of the engine it of course increased the exhaust note. I was taking it easy around the neighborhood and the reflector was fine before the WOT run.
It’s yours. I like the weight saving and the better throttle response, but not worth the noise for me . FYI I don’t have the spring that connects the can to the mid pipe. It was a light fit and while stretching it . You can guess what happened. I never heard it hit the ground. |
To be fair, that exhaust has a shorter can than the standard Ebay exhaust, so it will be even louder, and the regular ebay system is already decently loud.
As far as the exhaust changing color. Happens to ALL exhaust systems. Brown/Tan is the normal color for most exhausts, with a bit of blue coming through on lean carb setups and a lot of EFI bikes near the ports. The only way you will not see that color change happen is with a double wall exhaust system. This is my VFR1200F, note the color of the exhaust pipes? https://ibb.co/SQ10rj5 That was a top of the line flagship bike that cost as much as 10 of these cheap chinese bikes when new. Still has color changed exhaust pipes. |

3 charasteristics of mufflers. You can have only 2 of the following 3:
small size quiet big power |

So I pulled the aftermarket exhaust off and was getting ready to bolt on the stock unit. I took a look inside and decided to clean up the welds a bit. After I was finished I took another look inside. There’s a huge restriction at the first bend. I could reach it with my index finger. Has anyone attempted to grind it out? I assume the opposite side will have the same restriction.
|
This is a hot topic for me, I hate my ebay aftermarket due to noise level. My stock exhaust neuters my bike but sounds good. I think this is my next project.
|
Is it a crimp from the bend?
