TBR7 Knobby Wider Tire Recommendations

I am planning on replacing the factory tires at some point to something a bit more suitable for off road use. The factory tires are great on the street but not cutting it in the sand and mud.

What are the widest tire sizes people have fit the the 19 and 17 inch rims that come with the TBR7?

Recommendations?

I've got a Dunlop d606 130/90-17 on the rear of mine and I ran a Shinko on the front when I was using the stock 19" front. Worked great and looked good. I will warm you that it's allot taller and wider than the factory tire and it will hit the air box if you jump it very much unless you are pretty light. You could probably avoid it with a chain that's a couple links longer too.

Duro HF 307, size 4.00-19 with a new tube on the front. Installed today, it is wider and taller, exactly what I wanted. It is also really heavy duty.

Thanks for that tire fit info since that's what I planned for a rear tire myself. Went with a D.I.D x-ring 130 link chain so maybe the extra length compared to the stock 128 link will clear the airbox.

Appreciate the feedback everyone.

I did a bit more research into it.

If you plug in 110/90R17 compared to 130/75R17 into this tool, you get about the exact same size diameter between the two.
https://tiresize.com/comparison/

But, in researching, it does not appear anyone offers a tire in that exact size.

Since I am running a 13/32 sprocket combo, I could likely get away with the 130/70R17 tire since it will be a bit smaller in diameter and raise the gear ratio slightly. Now, I will need to research if there are actually tires offered in that size, or 120/80R17, the other close size equivalent option. I can't go bigger since I am using a 290 shock.

So this is the closest best off road option I can find thus far close to the original size for the rear tire. It is about a 0.4" overall taller in diameter from the stock tire.

I may have to step down the front sprocket a tooth depending how it performs from its current 13/32 to 12/32 on the 520 chain. Also, I will have to see if the 290 shock plays nice with this when the time comes. Ideally, a 130/70-17 would have been better, but it appears it may be easier capturing Bigfoot than locating off road tires for 17" rims on these bikes.

Anyone else have good choices in addition to the suggested Duro HF 307, size 4.00-19 tire above for the front?

So, I wiped away the mud from the rear tire and to my surprise the 2021 TBR7 actually came from the factory with a rear 50/50 dual sport tire size 130-80-17 on mine at least.

I found the following options thus far in a 150/70-17 rear size. It would yield an almost identical diameter. I am wondering if this will fit the rim?

The front factory tire is a 90/90-19. How wide of a tire will fit on this rim and between the forks?

I see the 110/80-19 is almost the same diameter:

Even wider is a 120/70-19:

Is anyone out there running 150/70-17 tire size on the rear of a TBR7? Will it fit the rim?

Is anyone out there running either 110/80-19 or 120/70-19 on the front of a TBR7? Will it fit the rim?

I am in the exact same situation as you guys. I need some more knobby for the TBR7... I have a 2020.

I havent pulled the trigger yet, but I am looking at the following

This for the front. Though it says its a REAR only... I am going to do more research.
https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/...sku_id=1313273

And for the rear I really want the 4.60 size, but the 5.10 should fit. 4.60 out of stock.

What do you think about that combo? Also way cheaper than most options.

TxTaoRider 01-22-2021 09:13 PM

The bridgestone 4.60x17 tw302 is a good DOT approved knobby. It's a little taller than stock which can help your gearing too for top speed (or drop a tooth on the front sprocket and your gearing will be about the same as it was).

Jersey did you ever decide what you were going to do?

I also discovered the Brozz website has a 50/50 tire for sale. I personally am thinking that I want more Knobby than that though.

I have not purchased yet, but likely going to go with the following:

Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T Hard Terrain Tubeless Rear Tire
130-80-17, same size as factory and appears about as wide as it can go.

And research for a top contender in the size of 110/80-19 for the front. Slightly wider than the stock one.

TxTaoRider 01-28-2021 11:00 AM

From what I understand, true off road tires made for hard terrain, use a soft compound to help them stick, but gives them a very short tread life.

gtosteve65 01-31-2021 05:07 PM

Let me know how it comes out. Since its the rainy wet season here I wont be riding until march, so I have time to decide my tire choice.

I put a Kenda 760 track master 2 130/100/17 on the rear and a 110/70/19 csg on the front. I’m doing primarily dirt riding and am very pleased with this setup

ChipToothy 02-12-2021 01:02 AM

What’s the widest set of tires we can use on these rims 19/17 ? I have had a few sets of TCK80’s 120/90/17 and 100/19 on the front. Want to try the Kenda 244’s but don’t know how wide I can go with that brand and the rim still hold them on lol.
