Engine upgrade
Zongshen sells the 300cc (279cc) 4valve liquid jacketed engine on Alibaba for$700. They say it is used on the Zuumav dirt bikes (They make the Templar X as well).
I'd like to install it in my bike which has the typical Zongshen 229cc clongine, but the mounting is very different. Two mounting points in front and two in back, and none on the cylinder head. Is the only upgrade path for the 229 a big bore kit? I mean besides head porting, ignition advance key, intake and exhaust work. |
Always glad to see another person thinking about taking on a swap.
1) Yup. For the hard "upgrades" on the 229cc engine: you have the big bore kit, timing key, cam, porting, etc. If you want more displacement and more horsepower, you can only squeeze so much out with all of the above. Beyond what it can support, the only real options are a new engine or a new bike. Engine might be cheaper. Could be more expensive in the long run, however. I say this because you are going to have to modify your engine cradle for mounting, do some re-wiring on the harness, figure out your radiator mounting situation, etc. It doesn't seem like a lot but it can add up quick. 2) Are you going to put this into your Storm? 3) Do you have a link handy? I think I know which one it is, but a link is always good to have. |

I wonder about ordering one of those 300cc racing MXers direct ? Some are available in quantity of one. Claiming EPA certified even!
