Venom Ghost Cruiser 250cc not starting
Hello,
I have a Venom Ghost Cruiser 250cc, also known as a DongFang with 126 miles. I am having trouble getting the bike to start. Engine turns over with no problems and battery is charged. I have compression and fuel but I am not getting spark. Spark plug is new NGK. Checked the coil with a meter on ohms and reading was okay, but swapped with a spare coil and same result. I have also swapped out the 6 pin CDI box with no result. The stator tested 159 ohms across the ignition circuit, and 0.4 ohms across the two wires that charge the battery. I have followed all of the wires and found no breaks, cuts or burns in the wires. Fuse is new. All lights and switches on the handlebars function as they should. What else gives the spark plug spark? Also, is there any wiring schematic for this bike? Thanks for any help Update: Bypassed the kill switch Bypassed the switch on the clutch lever Installed new stator Installed 3rd ignition coil Installed 3rd CDI box kickstand in the up position, (does not have a switch on kickstand) ensured battery is fully charged, also have charger on battery while cranking Still no spark |
"What else gives the spark plug spark?"
I know this may be slilly but, The kill switch and if there is a kick stand safety switch. |
This place has Dong Fang owners manual/ wiring diagrams

So this bike has 126 miles on it so it has run. What has happened to the bike since its last run?
I have an owner's manual so I will look at the wiring diagram to see if I can see where there might be a problem. |
Check to make sure you are getting power to the CDI and continuity from the CDI to coil. Make sure coil and CDI is grounded properly. It's possible that you might have a bad ignition switch or power not getting to ignition switch. You will have a 6 pin DC CDI.

I have thrown the key switch out, and jumper two of the four wires to give the motorcycle power. Red and black power on the motorcycle, the green and black with yellow stripe are loose. I am not sure what the black and yellow stripe are suppose to go to, but I have tried both ground and 12 volts with no results. I have 12 volts at the CDI. There are two wires on the coil, red with white stripe goes to the kill switch, and green is grounded to the mounting bolt at the coil. Disconnected the kill switch and left it out of the bike. Having a hard time trying to figure out what gives the coil power. If one wire is grounded and the other goes to the kill switch, where does it get power? |

CDI is a 6 wire, but only uses 5. It has 12 volts on one black wire coming into it, 2 wires go to stator, 1 wire to ground, and I dont recall where the last wire goes to. The coil has two wires on it, one that is grounded, and the other to the kill switch. I am having a hard time understanding where the coil gets its power from. |

I do not have a yellow wire on the coil. It only has a red w/white stripe and ground wire on mounting bolt. |
