Hello From Tenessee - 2008 Wildfire 200cc

Thx for the add

Just bought a 2008 "Hondoid" WFG-200LDB "Street Legal" bike w title here in TN and finding that it's a challenge getting the right parts for it. Any advice is appreciated thx.

My bike was basically leftover stock from a dealer and never really ridden - had 3 miles on it and title had never been signed over from dealer so it is blank.

Mine needs new ignition and tank lid (keys lost) - found the ignition but the plastic tank is weird and does not have a typical screw cap.

Will try to post some parts questions in the appropriate forums.

I started a Google photo album of the parts "journey" in case it helps anyone else.

Nice deal! And welcome to C-riders

This looks like a 163-FM style pushrod engine. It is a good dependable Honda CG clone. Cleveland Cycle werks used this and derivatives on their creations. Verify the model (behind the gearshift. Presumably the engine/stator are OK, but knowing the engine model would be good.

Ignition? You mean the keyed switch, right?

Does the CDI unit have a part number on it? It may have a DC or AC type CDI unit. AC units get no power when you turn on the key. DC units get 12V at the CDI when you turn on the key.

Interesting battery placement back there! Can you get the battery to hold enough charge to see if the CDI unit is getting power when you turn on the ignition?

If the battery can hold some charge, see which lead at the ignition switch is getting power when the battery is connected, then jump it to the lead that goes to the CDI unit if it does (DC type CDI).

@Thumper thx very much - I have the keyed switch off and a new one on but noticed the 4 pin replacement is also male so I am having to crimp on a new female connector and realign those pins. I am pretty slow at electrics so just takes me longer to figure out.

This has just been sitting in a barn for a lot of yrs so some of the plastics and rubber grommets are just breaking down now. Some of the wiring looks sketchy too.

I will look for some of those parts numbers next.

Also saw reference to these being same or similar to Kinroad XT200GY so if that is a hint on what to search for will add that to my sourcing notes.

Found it - 164-FML engine - I guess that is Lifan?

Also CDI Unit under seat is XianfengXF080813 - BY

The only other bike I have seen w that same rear battery box is the Kinroad XT200Gy

https://www.china-parts.co.uk/acatal..._Explorer.html (out of stock)

Problem is the battery I got is slightly too big, so I am thinking I may just fabricate something from metal that will be stronger and all metal

I have 2007ish Loncin and Jialing dual sports. They look similar. The Jialings gas tank looks just like yours. The Jialing also has a battery box where yours is located.

Were there 2 letters before the 164 FML? Also, both of my bikes have a tag on the swing arms stating their brand etc.

Thx TommyD - No, nothing before the 164FML
Underneath it is the unique Serial number though

From my other thread it is starting to sound like there were a handful of maker names putting this same/similar bike out and so far I see the Kinroad XT200GY looks exactly like it, and sounds like maybe your Loncin and Jialing models might also be a hit.

If I am not mistaken, Wildfire was a brand out of Ohio that re-labeled mostly Lifan bikes. There was a very popular model that Lifan had called the GY-5 (pretty much what Chinariders was originally based on--long story about founder Frostbite's foray into China bikes with a pair of Lifan GY-5's). They had a less popular model called the GY-2. It was easier to plate and register Chinese bikes, but the GY-5 was one of the first Chinese branded dual-sports to be EPA/DOT certified at the time. The GY-2's were not. At any rate, do a dive into the Lifan GY-2 model which is the bike I am quite sure was re-labeled by Wildfire. Also, many dual-sports from China were identical/near-identical to the GY-2--and besides the engines (some were Loncin or Zongshen or Shineray or maybe manufactured by Zongshen and re-labeled as Loncin or Shineray or etc) most of the parts were interchangeable.

The GY-2 bikes were quite plentiful, but over time, with the new crop of 'better' dual-sports, it is somewhat difficult to find parts. But not impossible.

@DustyRJ7 sorry did not see your post and have not been able to work on this for a while but where you at? I am in Oak Ridge / Knoxville area

I started messing with the wiring on my bike and ended up building a whole new harness which was way harder than it looked. I still do not have everything correct

Gawngator 11-18-2024 08:03 PM

I am in the final stages of getting this bike to come back fully to life. I found that parts were a mix of maker clones and finally found odd things like locking gas cap and matching keys and ignition but it was a tough slow process.

Now that I know what to look for I think I could tackle one of these better but wiring is still mystery to me and I suck at wiring. But now I can make excellent splices and pin plug connectors!6

So latest is that this thing runs very well and is a lot of fun to ride but now I have a few wiring kinks that I am having hard time tracking down.

1. Charging - I have something wrong in harness where my battery is not being charged by the generator

2. Blinkers and headlight work but bright brake light on all the time

3. starter button stopped working shortly after installing and having it work great, so I have to kick start. Grrr

4. Engine can start with or without the key on! Kill switch does work but key turns on headlight and horn, blinkers etc but does not kill engine run circuit

Carb replace -

This particular bike places the carb in a very tough spot to get to and also to neatly route the throttle cable. It sits right smack in middle of the seat and tank intersection so you have to find a angled manifold hard rubber inlet that is just right.

I did finally get a Nibbi 28 in there but was disappointed because the adjustment knobs of the Nibbi are almost useless behind the frame of the bike. I also got rid of the big plastic air box and filter and opted for a Nibbi cone style filter that sits in middle of the bike.

Nibbi works great but the throttle cable has to be bent at a sub optimal angle to get it to link up. I hate having mechanical cables that have twists and coils to them.
