opinions on this used gy250

hey gang, i'm interested in a used 2007 gy250. here is the info from the ad, any input would be great:

"I have my 2007 GY250 dualsport for sale. I have decided I need a bigger bike and have upgraded to a DR 350. I really love this little bike and will miss it.

Bought this bike new with papers. Daily rider. Has 2000 km on it. Oil change done at 500k.

Has had some mods done, air box opened, rear sprocket changed out, carb jetted. Have a new front sprocket on order. Should get a few more k/hr with it. Top speed is 110 km/hr, comfortable speed of 80 km/hr.

This bike has been lowered but can be brought back up. It is ideal for a smaller person. I am 5'3", 155 lbs and sit with the balls of my feet on the ground. Ideal for a woman or new rider.
Some of the decals have been removed. Ready for the road."

If it's already tagged and the price is right, I'd grab it up.

Nice looking bike, Wish I could have it.

You didn't mention the price..?

It looks a lot like my gy6 lifan, I saw some of these at the bike show, though they had different tags on them, I wonder if they are true 250's?

Defintely depends on the price, but I like my gy6 way more then my gy5, but I think a lot has to do with it having the counter balanced engine, I dont know if this is, doesn't look to be... If it is like mine, there's also nowhere to put your toolkit. The stickers shouldn't be cleared over so you could remove them if you wanted.

asking 1900, but no chance i'm paying that much. i looked at alot of pics of your gy6, and the fram/ body/ susp, look almost identical. i'm willing to bet it's one of those 229 bored out 200's i see alot of. i have no clue as to the counterbalancing, or anything else about the engine for that matter. the seller mentioned something about a crack somewhere due to the chain coming off after the sprocket was improperly put on. she didn't know what was cracked, and was going to ask her husband, but said it happened 3+ months ago w/ no probs. not sure what she is talking about, but i'd like to find out. any other things i should look out for w/ this bike? thanks

ps: Jim, coast-coast is sold out of gy6's, i was pretty interested.

Well I sold my gy5 that was unbalanced (and a 200) for $1500 earlier this year, it has about 3000K on it... That price doesn't really sound too bad, maybe you can talk them down a bit... I haven't really had any troubles with my new bike, like I said, I don't think you have anywhere for your toolkit (if they give you one), and it doesn't have a rear rack... It's not that hard to make though... I'm on my second one now because I didn't like the fit on the first one I put on, unfortunately I cut it up, otherwise I'd offer that one to you... I haven't had anything crack, or even come loose on my bike so I can't really suggest anything to look out for, except my headlight bulb came loose a few times, but I'm sure they would have fixed that if it was a problem for them... The swingarm on this one is slightly different from my bike, but it is the same as the ones I saw at the bike show, same shock, frame, etc... This is lifan's 250 gy6a (229cc)

Could be that same bike...

My only real comment that isn't positive is the seat is hard.

My name says it all!!!!

found out the chain broke the chain guard, so not a huge deal to replace. also has cracked plastic quarter panel, again, no big deal. i may make an offer on this thing, any and all input is appreciated.

GY250 decals on the rear are the same as mine but the "ITR" on the tank plastic and engine cover are different. Problem for me is that all these bikes look the same! :x I paid 1700 for mine, brand new in the crate (and one day i'll get it assembled  ) so MY 2 cents is they're a little high on the price. This is obviously a "before" picture, i'd be interested to see it now. How did they lower it? Just knock the shock adjustment down or :?:  Anyway, if you can git 'er done in the 15-16 range, you'll do well. 19 just sounds like a lot for a used one, unless anyone wants to buy mine     and finish it off...

the ITR stands for island trail riders, as the importer was from nanaimo. i spoke with the seller today, and they believe it was a 249cc, but weren't sure. at any rate, it's 3 hours away, so driving out for a test drive might be a bit much, so we'll see what price they want to let it go for, and if it's persuasive enough, i may roll the dice on this one.

Just for a point of reference, in langley bc I purchased my gy5 from a dealer, prepped and pdi'd for $2500, that was a few hundred less then the other dealers I checked, this was a couple years ago mind you... Crated direct from an importer you usually do do better.

Hey Jim, which dealer?

BCJC 09-05-2008 02:57 PM

partsdude, i guess they adjusted the rear shock to lower it, says it's 15 minutes to return to stock. i'm 6' so i would want to go that route. looks like one mirror in the pic, for you BC guys, don't we nees two for our roadworthyness? also, seller says parts were ordered from lifan dealer with no issues, other than time for delivery.

Jim 09-05-2008 03:04 PM

Partsdude, I bought it from super sport.

BCJC, I lowered my bike, by changing out the shock, but I am only about 5'10 and have short legs... I don't know if we legally need 2 mirrors, but it should be easy enough to put a second one on.
