My new Baja

I'm still around

I might be racing speedway this summer, and discovered that they race these as a support class.

A quick search of the classifieds found one for $300 right on my road, about 2 minutes away.
I took that as a sign, and grabbed it.

Can't wait to start modding it

Cool! Looks like you test rode it in the snow :P . How did it do?

Fun. My neighbor has one.

Those clones can be modded alot. Remove the governor, put a mikuni carb on, pipe. Lighter flywheel. Probably 12-15hp in there.

I think those are 6.5 hp Honda clones. Please ditch that awful fake tank and put a crotch pad there.

A Comet Torq-a-verter will really wake it up. You won't know what hit you.

I'm finding that out. A google search came up with pages of performance parts, and how-tos.

How is it governed Kato? I presumed that any governor was part of the carb linkage, like a B&S, but you'd bypass that with a Mikuni.

I've never seen lighter flywheels for a utility engine; can you point to one? I have an engine like that I'd like to wake up.

From my kart racing days I have seen about everything custom. We had $2K briggs 5hp engines. They dynoed at 10-13hp. This was before the OHV engines came out. Early 90s. My friend has built a business building these engines in Iowa.

The governor is in the crankcase and connected via a linkage to the carb.

We used tillotson carbs back then on the modified engine. Ran methanol. Smell like skunk. The stock and kids classes ran stock carbs.

Of course, I forgot about the centrifugal governor. I was going to remove the governor on a mini bike that I built for my buddy"s kid, but it was plenty fast already.

Thanks for the links guys.
