You just bought this machine? It's had a little rough use. Chain is missing, right foot peg looks twisted. That's what I see in the picture.
You would need to check the clutch to see it's condition....

Why is my quad dancing AC inverted from DC into the coil?
Is there a reason, or just because?

DC I'm sure you guessed but, = Direct Current...

Very nice! I'm considering building a similar unit with a 3/4" sheet of white plastic I have hangin' around. (for the blade itself of course :P ). Just wonder what cutting was required at the center...

I'll likely go with custom 'glass' plastics, RR wiring harness completely (from what I've heard here and other places, no point in going HP on ignition components as there's little to no difference.)...

Definitely sounds like a tuning issue. An air leak would certainly cause this.
Changing the gaskets/seals between carb-intake & intake-block may cure this and should be a quick and inexpensive...
